gauge: 21 stitches = 4 inches stockinette stitch **use appropriately sized needles to obtain gauge! Shown knit in Beiroa, 273 yards, 100% wool single ply. (available at retrosaria.rosapomar.com), knit with size five US needles. ~ Youll need a 16 circular needle, double pointed needles, stitch marker, and tapestry needle. Sizes: (Child) Woman

Directions:
Using circular needles, cast on (80) 100 stitches. Place marker, and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Begin pattern: Round 1: (K2, P2) repeat to end of round. Round 2: (K2 tog without removing stitches from left needle, knit into the first stitch again, then slip both stitches off left needle, P2) repeat to end of round. Round 3: (K2, P2) repeat to end of round. Round 4: (K2, P2) repeat to end of round. Repeat the pattern the four previous rounds (4) 5 times total. On next round: (K5, M1) repeat to end of round. (96) 120 stitches.

Work stockinette stitch (knit every round) until hat measures (6) 8 inches from cast on edge. Begin decrease rounds (switching to double pointed needles as necessary): Round 1: (k2 together) repeat to end of round. (48) 60 sts. Round 2: knit all stitches. Round 3: (k2 together) repeat to end of round. (24) 30 sts. Round 4: knit all stitches. Round 5: (k2 together) repeat to end of round. (12) 15 sts. Round 6: knit all stitches. Round 7: (k2 together) repeat to end of round. (6) 8 sts. Break yarn, draw through remaining stitches with tapestry needle and pull closed. Weave in ends.
