1 About CORD
CORD Inc. is a social business with a mission of having new technological future for Egypt. Technology Awareness is our thing, started with raising awareness about and actually organizing Robot Building Sports. Initial results were very promising and proved that we do can make a change in our Egypt for the better. By planting the seeds for developing the Robot Building Sports Concept in Egypt, we link and reduce the gap between three main elements of advancement; Society, Scientific Research and Business Activities. Simply we try to induce entertaining technology themed commercial events to raise both public awareness and public support, and hence the demand on basic technology items enhancing the technology market in Egypt. All our events are based on a basic simple concept, if we can't build it nor teach it, there is no use we do it. The essence of each Competition of Robot Design we build is the open sessions and knowledge transfer process. We believe the decision making triangle of participating in CORD is; Money, Time and knowledge so, we do our best to make our contests easy while competition is usually more powerful in reducing costs of the robot. The building time of a general CORDian Robot is no more than two weeks of casual work and all the knowledge that a participant needs to enter the competition, we provide it in advance. Generally, we believe that there is a basic triangle of knowledge that is mandatory for everybody and we believe that CORD efficiently deliver that message and inspire people to acquire this knowledge while providing them with the basics. The triangle of knowledge is simply from Mental & Interpersonal Skills mixed with Technical & practical physics basic knowledge and applied via Practical & Handy Skills. The process a participant lives in to build his/her first robot, expands his/her horizons to the extent when he/she finally believes that human horizons simply have no limits.

2 Competitions Intro
The preliminary competitions; this year is a bit hard and more advanced than any of CORDs previous competitions but, Egypt is entering a new era of revolutionary change towards futuristic leaps. CORD 2011 season was intended to be a very special season with all the changes that CORD has been going through but, then came the revolution;

the great Egyptian 25th Jan revolution and made it even harder that we in CORD are challenging ourselves to follow our Egyptian vision and risk with huge leaps because we are dependent on the Egyptian society that we know is capable for achievements beyond imagination. This advanced beginners Competition will not produce an Egyptian product now but, we believe it will revive the idea, the hope, the will, the talent and most importantly, the pride. The process of participating in a Robot Building Sport can be very beneficial. Working according to three triangles; the triangle of decision making, the triangle of knowledge and the triangle of CORD. The triangle of knowledge is simply what we broadcast in CORD; Practical and Handy skills, Mental and Interpersonal skills and Technical and Practical physics basic Knowledge. The triangle of Decision Making with the first three things that comes to mind when taking a decision whether to participate; you need a little amount of money to build the robot Whomever pays less with acceptable functionality and durability wins, you need small amount of time CORDian Robots are simple enough and you need to have no specific knowledge background because in CORD, no competition is issued without preparing the needed knowledge for it to be transmitted and discussed with participants. And this is how we do it in CORD The third triangle; serving the society by expanding the technology awareness and scientific basic knowledge to gain enough public support to the scientific research community inducing more demand on technological items and hence helping technological businesses thrive publicizing for the Robot Building Sports for a new scientific market in Egypt.

3 Competitions theme
The theme of the three preliminary competitions is unified around reviving the dream of advanced Egyptian manufacturing. It also is directly related to one of the most important sources of Egyptian Pride; The Egyptian Armed Forces. The playground can be divided into four phases; light weight lifting, slope handling, heavy weight lifting and final semi-automatic maneuver. The competition is all about durability and handling different objects. Its a reminding scream that Egypt is not only about the past and history but, its also about the bright future and innovation, Egypt was trying to thrive against all odds, the heroic people who swam against the current for a modernized Egypt and Egypt needs new

developed industrial future that will be based on a solid foundation rather than starting from scratch and a reminder that Egyptians can do the impossible when they believe. And now is the time to believe, build and develop.

4 Competitions Scenario
The first phase is simply removing five identical light weight and relatively small obstacles, with an option for the robot to store the obstacles to reduce the number of travels from five to one or more depending on the capacity of each robot. The next phase is a gravity and balance test, a simple step down slope where two of the four competing robots are free to meet and they might hit each other which can result in a time penalty of aggression. The third phase can be considered as the essence of the competition and probably the hardest phase; transferring and putting the six different parts of the Egyptian Product together; Helwan-300 Supersonic fighter jet. Finally comes the final phase; raising the Egyptian flag at the highest point of the playground, and the first team who raises the flag wins. Very important thing about the final phase is that the action of raising the flag should be done in one move and triggered by any mean from the robot itself and not from the remote control even by touching any part of the playground to help the trigger action.

5 Competition Points: (50 points)

Phase 1: (10 points)
In this Phase, Robot should transfer all five objects and it wins 2 points for each one successfully transferred to destination point, Robot will get only 1 point if it make it semi-transfer , Semi-Transfer is when Object is dragged or not positioned at its exact place. Uncompleted transfer is awarded with ZERO points and is considered when the object is not even within final destination.

Cairo:
Robot will have to move all five parts to form the bridge to cross to next phase. Cubes Dimensions: 10cm * 5cm * 3mm Material: MDF

Alex:
Robot will have open the gate to cross to next phase in order to do this it should carry five Marbles into hemi-spherical container. The container should be filled with all five Marbles. Marbles Dimensions: about 2 cm diameter

Aswan:
Robot will face five Ping-Pong balls with wax base in its way. To cross to next phase the Robot has to move all five balls to storage area. Ping-Pong Dimensions: Normal Ping-Pong ball. For more illustration check CORD Channel for tracks

Phase 2: (5 points)
It is gravity and balance test , we will get 5 points if Robot does this mission successfully, so Robot must go through the slop length without hitting the boarders and any other robots , If Robot fails to do this , it will lose the 5 point of this phase.

Phase 3: (20 points)

The Robot is awarded full three points for each block (picked, transferred and placed) of all six blocks onto the higher place in the playground. Block - Dimensions: (10*10*10) Cm - Material: Cork -" "Mission updated Check appendix C

Phase 3 then has a sum of 18 points and an extra 2 points if the final shape of the product is aligned with the drawing on the playground. Phase 3 is considered fully completed when all six parts are transferred and placed into place.

Phase 4: (15 points)

Raising the Egyptian flag at the top is worth 15 points when done semi-automatically in one swift move triggered from the robot and not the remote control. 10 points if the action is triggered from the remote control. 0 points if handled manually and will not be considered a closure of the round. Flag Dimensions: pipe (1cm diameter), Flag body (5cm * 2cm) Material: Flag body (cartoon)

6 Judging Rules
1. The playground is made to contain four participating robots at a time; two of them can come to direct contact. Hitting another robot or touching it while maneuvering is not allowed. 2. The competitions are made to follow the exact mentioned scenario with the same sequence of phases. 3. In the 2nd phase a robot can be holding more than one object at an instant while, in the 3rd phase, the robot is only permitted to hold one piece of the final product at any time.

4. The 4th phase marks the end of the round so if one robot is able to finish the 4th phase, the whole round ends and points are calculated however; 4th phase cant be initiated unless 1st, 2nd and 3rd phases are completed. 5. In the 4th phase the robot is fully granted to use any part of the playground to trigger the semi-automatic action of raising the flag. 6. Due to the difficulty of the 4th phase; the semi-automatic action of raising the flag can be triggered from the remote control but, with a loss of points. 7. In the 4th phase the act of raising the flag should be done in one swift move only and other than that, the act is not taken in consideration. 8. Any actuator at any part of the robot should not exceed a 24 volts limit with no power limit. 9. The participating robot should be represented in four segments; a. The robot itself. b. Wiring and/or tubing between Robot and Remote control. c. Remote Controlling unit and power unit. (All should be held by one robot driver at any given time during the rounds) d. The wiring between the remote control and power unit to the electric source provided. 10. A source of 220v. AC is provided to all the contestants. 11. An emergency change of driver is permitted once during a round but, with a point penalty. 12. Only a driver and a navigator from the team are allowed to be in the arena with the robot during the rounds. 13. The wiring and/or tubing segment shouldnt be heavy enough to interfere with the original movement of the robot. 14. Any toughing, grabbing, pulling, interfering the original movement of the robot by the driver is faced by a huge penalty. 15. Any misbehavior from any of the team members can lead to the exclusion of the team from the competition. 16. The robot can use its magazine only in phase two and is not allowed to use it in phase four.

17. Toxic and flammable fuels are not allowed. 18. The final results of the competitions are announced according to the points gathered by each robot but, the wining robot by points will not be considered a winner unless at least phase 3 was fully completed.
19. The FAQ Frequently Asked Questions section on www.cord-eg.com is an

extension to the Book of Rules and all officials answers mentioned there is taken in consideration in the competition rules.

7 Penalties
a. Any attempt to change the course of the robot, fine tune its movement, etc.by physical involvement from the driver is met by a deduction of 1 point per time.

b. If the robot flipped over and needs a restart, it restarts from the last completed phase and is met by a deduction of 3 points c. Hitting an opponents robot at any time is met by deduction of 1 points for each hit, 3 points for direct hit and 5 points for 5 or more seconds attachment. d. If any object from the playground is destroyed due to the robot aggressiveness or extra weight, the team is met with deduction of 9 points e. If any object or part from the competition scenario is out of the playground for any reason due to a robots mistake, the playground official judge returns it to its original place with a deduction of 5 point. f. Any attempt to interfere the neighbor robots course by any object from the playground or from the robot itself or via throwing any projectiles is met by a deduction of 10 points. g. Any attempt to demolish or destroy any neighbor product intentionally is met by deduction of 15 points and 5 points if not intended.

8 Pre-Competition Rules and points

1. Cost Design & Material (20 points) The Cost section is calculated for only the loaded and functional parts of the robot and is not applied over any decorations and/or auxiliaries add to the robot.

2. Control Ergonomic & Technical (10 points) This section is mainly applied over the remote control of the robot and how easy it to be driven by any human is, and how much practice does it take for a regular human to use it. 3. Uniqueness Design & Material (10 points) Thats an added value for innovation by any team, its not a main section of the calculations but, its a reward for any out of the box innovative idea. 4. Competition Task & Time (As Mentioned above) (40 points) 5. Behaviour Robot & Team (10 points) A positive environment of cheering and encouragement is essential to any competition and it is the responsibility of all the humans involved and sometimes the robots. 6. Quality Durability & Overall shape (10 points) This section is to make sure and to make it clear that cost should not be chose over quality and durability. Its the optimisation between getting the job done at the least cost possible that we aim for.
