SUMMARY

1 THE OLD SEA WOLF AT ADMIRAL BENBOW'S INN

At Jim's father's inn, the Admiral Benbow Inn, a sailor has arrived with a trunk as luggage. After
leaving three gold coins and making sure that the place does not have many customers, he stays.
He pays Jim a silver coin a month to let him know if he sees a one-legged man. He seems to be a
good-natured person.

2 BLACK DOG APPEARS AND DISAPPEARS

Jim's father is getting sicker and sicker. The captain goes for a walk and when he returns he meets
a man he calls "Black Dog". They have a dispute and "Perro Negro" runs away. They discover that
the captain's name is Billy and that he is having a stroke, at which point the doctor arrives and
manages to save him.

3 THE BLACK MARK

Jim tells the captain that he won't be able to get out of bed for a week, the captain gets very
nervous and says he will have been given "the black mark" by then. The next day, Jim goes out into
the street and meets a blind man who grabs his hand tightly and tells him to take him to the
captain. Pew (the blind man) hands the captain a piece of paper with a black spot on it. The
captain, when Pew is gone, tells Jim that he is the black mark and has up to ten. He then drops
dead.

4 THE BAGGAGE

Jim tells his mother everything and they decide to go to the village for help. Here no one offers it
to them, although they are told that they will have horses saddled for them and that they will go
elsewhere for help. They return to the inn, lock the latch and after finding a key that the captain
had, they go up to his room to open the trunk. In the meantime, Pew arrives and, unable to get in,
leaves. When they open the trunk they begin to count the money he owed them and finally decide
to leave the inn. Jim's mother faints on the road, Jim hides her under a bridge and he goes behind
some bushes.

5 THE DEATH OF THE BLIND MAN

The corsairs arrive and after ransacking the house, as they find nothing, they decide to start
searching the surrounding area, at which point they are warned of the arrival of the soldiers and
leave, leaving Pew alone, who is run over by the horses. The soldiers take the mother away, and
the young man is taken to Dr. Livesey's house.

6 THE CAPTAIN'S PAPERS

Dr. Livesey was having dinner when he arrived with the gentleman Trelawney, and after telling
them the whole story, they discovered a map of an island. The map has red crosses that indicate
very well how to get to the treasure. They decide that the knight should go to Boston and there
get a ship and crew to go in search of the treasure.

7 MY TRIP TO BRISTOL

Jim is left living at Livesey's house, who has to go to London in search of a replacement for his
practice. After a few days Trelawey sends them a letter saying that she has bought a ship called the
Hispaniola and that she has met a guy who will be the ship's cook, and that he has helped her a lot
to find the crew. Before leaving for Bristol, Jim pays a visit to his mother, who has hired an
apprentice to replace her son.

8 AT EL CATALEJO TAVERN

Trelawen gives Jim a note to give to John Silver (the ship's future cook). When he enters the tavern
and after having spoken to the captain, Jim sees that the man who at that moment walks out of
the door is Black Dog. Jhon sends a person in search of him, but is unable to reach him. John then
accompanies Jim to the gentleman and explains what happened.

9 GUNPOWDER AND WEAPONS

When they have boarded the ship the captain tells them that he does not trust the crew. The
knight and the captain don't get along very well, and they let each other see it. Jim is appointed
cabin boy.

10 THE TRIP

The trip is fairly uneventful. Mr. Arrow has no authority

and every now and then he shows up drunk, although no matter how much they ask him they
never find out where he gets his alcohol from. Jim meets the cook, who introduces him to his
parrot he calls Captain Flint, whom he says is over two hundred years old. With only a short time
to go, Jim hides in a barrel of apples one night.

11 WHAT I HEARD FROM THE BARREL OF APPLES

Jim is falling asleep inside the barrel when he hears Silver. When he starts to listen he realizes that
Silver is not alone and that they are talking about mutiny. The other people tell Silver that they are
sick of obeying orders but Silver tells them that they have to wait and be patient, however when
they have loaded the ship and are close to shore, they will reveal themselves and hang the captain
and the rest of the nobles. Silver protests that they are all impatient and that because they can't
wait they will have to riot on the island. After a while the lookout reports that he has sighted land.

12 COURT-MARTIAL

The captain gathers all the crew and asks them to see if anyone has ever seen her. Silver answers
yes. Then the captain shows her a copy of the map where the crosses do not appear and asks her
where to moor the ship. When everyone returns to their seats Jim tells Dr. Livesey that he needs
to speak to them urgently. When they meet Jim explains everything that has happened, they
decide it is best to move on as if nothing has happened.

13 THUS BEGAN MY ADVENTURE ON LAND

They arrive at the island and the sailors are getting more and more nervous, the captain realizes
that Silver is doing everything he can to calm things down and asks him to help him control the
sailors. The captain leaves the day free with the intention that if they all leave, to leave them on
the island and set sail. But six sailors remain on the ship, and to make matters worse Jim rides on
one of the boats going ashore.

14 THE FIRST STROKE

As soon as Jim lands, he runs off into the forest. After a while he hears some noises and hides.
Then he sees Silver talking to another sailor. As he listens to the conversation he realizes that what
Silver is trying to do is to convince the other to join them. The sailor refuses and Silver kills him.
Jim runs off aimlessly.

15 THE MAN FROM THE ISLAND

Jim finds himself in the woods with a strange person named Ben Gunn. She tells him that the flint
crew had abandoned him on the island three years ago, and that he had survived by killing wild
goats. He also tells her that he has a craving for cheese, that he knows where the treasure is and
that he is willing to share it if he is taken to England. At that moment they hear a cannon shot and
run away.

16 HOW THEY ABANDONED SHIP

The ship's noble crew members set out in search of Jim. On the island they find a perfect palisade
for shelter. They start making trips to carry supplies and so on. Before making the fifth voyage the
captain manages to convince Abraham Gray to join them, but when he goes in the captain's
direction he receives a cut on his face.

17 THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE SKIFF

On this last trip, the boat was overloaded, so when the pirates fired a cannon shot at them, the
skiff sank and the crew had to leave quickly.

The nobles arrive at the palisade and hoist the flag of England.

18 HOW OUR FIRST DAY OF STRUGGLE ENDED

After the battle, Tom drops dead. As they were being shot at from the ship, the knight deduces
that they must be aiming by the flag and suggests to the captain that they remove it so that they
will not be so easily hit by any cannonballs, however the captain refuses. A short time later Jim
appears in the fort.

19 THE GARRISON OF THE FORT

Before Jim's final appearance at the fort, Ben had reminded him of what he had to tell the captain.
When Jim tells him all about it, Jim tells him that he has cheese and that he's going to go find this
Ben Gunn.

20 THE SILVER EMBASSY

The next morning, Silver shows up with the white flag and says he wants to talk to the captain,
they let him in and when he gets to the cabin he sits down on the floor. He proposes the plan that
either they give them the map and the pirates leave them in a safe place, or they give him the
map, leave them on the island and divide the provisions and give notice to the first ship they see
to come and look for them. The captain tells him no and that if they turn themselves in, he will
take them to England to receive their punishment. Silver leaves in a huff.

21 THE ATTACK

The captain puts everyone in place to await combat. In the course of this the captain is wounded
and five of the pirates are killed.

22 OF HOW MY ADVENTURE AT SEA BEGAN

The captain is in no danger and Jim decides to go in search of the coracle. He grabs two pistols and
without communicating anything to anyone (since he knows that if he does, they won't let him go)
he runs away. He finds the coracle and takes it to the water.

23 LA RESACA

He approaches theHispaniola and sets out to cut the anchor rope with his knife. It takes him a
while because he has to wait until it is not too tight, but in the end he manages to cut it and
theHispaniola drifts away. On the ship there are two sailors who don't know anything and Jim falls
asleep in his coracle.

24 THE CORACLE CROSSING

Jim wakes up when it is already daylight, the boat is less than half a mile away and he starts sailing
towards it until he grabs hold. The coracle sinks.

25 I HOIST THE BLACK FLAG

When Jim boards the ship he finds two men lying on deck. One of them is dead and the other asks
for a bottle of brandy. The pirate who is still alive tells him that he considers himself defeated and
that he is at his command. Jim decides to take the boat to the northern bay.
26 ISRAEL HANDS

Hands, he is very weak. He asks Jim questions about the afterlife. At one point he asks for a bottle
of wine. Jim is suspicious and when he goes down to get the bottle he spies him and realizes that
he takes a dagger and a rope and hides them. Jim raises the bottle to him as if nothing had
happened. At the end of the trip Hands rebels, but Jim manages to defeat him; although he leaves
with a wound in his shoulder.

27 "DOUBLES IN EIGHTS!"

Jim, although badly wounded, leaves the ship and sets out to return to his friends, but when he
reaches the stockade he realizes that there is no one watching and as he enters a voice begins to
shout "doubloons at eight". Those in the stockade were not his friends but the pirates.

28 IN THE CAMP

Upon awakening, the pirates tell Jim that he has no choice but to join them. Jim replies that he's
been the one who's been screwing up their plan from the beginning. The pirates want to kill him,
but Silver warns them that they will need a hostage. The pirates begin to rebel against Silver and
go outside to discuss the situation.

29 BLACK MARK AGAIN

While the pirates are thinking, Silver tells Jim that when they arrived at the stockade the nobles
gave them the map. After a while, the pirates return and give Silver the black mark that says he is
to be dismissed. Silver tells them that everything has gone wrong because they are impatient. In
the end, he convinces them and is not dismissed.

WORD OF HONOR

The next day the doctor shows up to treat the wounded and asks Silver to let him talk to Jim alone.
Silver makes him give Jim his word of honor that he will not run away. The doctor tries to convince
Jim to run away, but Jim refuses.

31 IN SEARCH OF TREASURE: THE SIGNAL IS FLINT

The next day they (the pirates) leave in search of the treasure. Silver has the boy tied up. After a
while of walking, they find a skeleton that is in a position that seems to indicate something. They
decide to follow the direction indicated by the bones.

32 IN SEARCH OF TREASURE: THE VOICE AMONG THE TREES

They continue walking along the road and, due to the heat and the slope, the pirates are getting
more and more tired. After a while they hear in the distance a ghostly voice singing the old pirate
song. The men are frightened and do not want to follow, as they believe it is Flint's ghost. Silver
encourages them and in the end they realize it is Ben's ghost and decide to follow. When they
arrive at the right place they realize that someone has already taken the treasure.

33 THE FALL OF A RINGLEADER

Silver slyly hands Jim a pair of pistols. When the pirates start arguing. Silver shoots and
simultaneously two more shots are heard, then out of the bushes come Dr. Gray and Ben jun; they
begin to chase the pirates until they realize that the way they have gone they will no longer be
able to escape in the boats. They smash one of these boats and use the other to go to the cave
where they had taken refuge.

34 AND LAST

They explained to Jim and Silver that what had happened was that Ben had found the treasure
two months earlier and had moved it to that cave. They then spend a few days counting and
loading the money onto the boat. The three pirates who had escaped do not bother them again.
When they finally set sail they see them on the beach begging for mercy; however, they consider it
more humane to leave them there than to take them to England to be hanged. Before arriving in
England

have to refuel at a port to hire crew. They stop in Spanish America and go for a ride. While they
are away, Silver escapes with a small part of the treasure. Everyone is happy about it. When they
arrive in England, they divide the treasure and each one manages it as he wishes.

4 CHARACTERS

 The main character is a boy named Jim, a teenager with a great adventurous spirit. He is a very
legal person, noble and a good companion. At first he is poor, but when he finds the treasure, he
becomes richer.

 Dr. LIVESEY: He is the trip doctor. Very good friend of Jim's.

BILLY: The bearer of the treasure map who stays at Jim's father's inn.

PEW: The one who delivers the black mark to Billy.

TRELAWNEY: The gentleman who is in charge of organizing the trip.

SILVER: Initially the ship's cook, then the leader of the mutineers.

FLINT: The deceased who hid the treasure. It is also called Silver's parrot.

BEN GUNN: The man who was on the island.

5 PLACE
The story begins in England, at Jim's father's inn. He then moves to Bristol. From Bristol he moves
on to Treasure Island, where most of the story takes place. From the island to Spanish America
where they refuel before returning to England.

6 TIME

 The story takes place in the 18th century and explains it directly, although it does not give the
exact year. What it says is "17..."

 The novel does not state how long the story lasts.

The story is arranged in retrospective order, because at the very beginning he says that his friends
have asked him to tell that story.

7 NARRATOR

The author uses as narrator the protagonist of the story, who retrospectively and in first person
tells it to us.

8 JUDGMENT

 I liked it very much. Despite knowing how it ends (since I had already seen the movie) I
was hooked from the beginning.

 This book has mainly provided me with entertainment.

 To my colleagues I would say that it is a highly recommended book since it gets to the
point from the beginning and not like others that, by the time the plot begins, you have
already eaten half the book.

 What I liked the most was the arrival to the island. And best of all, it is credible and that
gives it a lot of points. The truth is that there was nothing I didn't like.

 Not at this moment, but a couple of centuries ago it could have happened perfectly well.

 It is a book that is recommended for any age. Very easy to understand.

 It does not need any additions; I believe that such a good work has been perfectly closed
with the end given by the car.
