HOW TO STUDY THE WORD OF GOD

The Bible is a weapon, please use it carefully. I have given you a few tips on how to use and study the Word of God. The better you know the Word and where specific scriptures are, the better you will be able to disciple and help others. Know your weapon. Make sure it penetrates your heart. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Come to His Word with faith. Decide to believe His word. Heb 4:2 Come to His Word with humility and meekness to change and learn. Matthew 11:12; James 1:21 Come to His Word with a passion to obey no matter what. Look to apply His Word in my life today!!! Let the word first penetrate your heart before it penetrates your mind. Once you do this, light and understanding will come to your mind. This is done, by mixing the word with faith. Romans10:10 Focus on Jesus in the Word. Therefore focus mainly on the words of Jesus in the gospels. Matthew Mark, Luke and John. Matthew 28:20 Start with matt 4:17 then 4:19-22, then matt 5. We need the Word to become a follower and not just a believer. A true believer will follow Jesus. True faith has action. Faith without works is dead. Read a Proverb a Day. There are 31 proverbs in the Book of Proverbs; one for each day of the month. If todays date is the 15th, then read proverbs number 15. Try and read proverbs in the morning and a Psalm at night. This is besides the other studying you are doing. Make notes in your bible with a pen. Dont just underline every scripture to make your bible look used. Circle verse numbers, to highlight very important verses. Start your own key code system: You can use symbols like a small cross for suffering and the cross. Capital J for Justice and judgment, A Capital M for mercy. Capital H for Humility. Draw little pictures where it will help you. Remember always to write as small as possible as the space to write in your bible is limited. Take one verse at a time and study the verse; word by word. Check words in dictionary for meaning and cross-reference them in a concordance. Now look for cross-references for that verse and write down in very small letters the cross-reference. Gods Word is like a garment woven together in a beautiful pattern. The Holy Spirit is able to show you the threads or verses right through the Word that tie up to each other. These are the cross-references. When teaching and preaching you dont need notes. Just use the Bible and read the Word and teach the Word. The Holy Spirit will release the revelation as you start reading the Word He is the teacher trust in Him to teach 1John2:27. The Holy Spirit is our teacher; ask Him to teach you from Gods Word!!! Write extra scriptures in your personal concordance in the back of your bible. Continue to add key scriptures to this concordance as this will help you to get to know and us your weapon. Work through Matthew to John slowly and apply what Jesus teaches. Jesus Words are the cornerstone between the old and new testaments. His words are confirmed in the old and new testaments. When you cross reference words of Jesus you will find confirmation in the old and new testaments. Mt 5:17 Remember everything Paul wrote was based on Jesus, who is the Chief corner stone. As we understand and apply Jesuss Words the words Paul wrote will open up to us. As they are there to explain and deepen our understanding of what Jesus did and said. Do not get caught up in every wind of teaching that is interesting but does not bring you closer to Jesus and give you life. We can spend years in these useless but very interesting studies like how long was the Ark that Noah built? Now that will not bring you closer to Jesus but it might impress other to how much knowledge I have. Look for Jesus in every word in the bible, look for life. Ask your self is there life in this? The Word of God is infinite in its depth we have limited time on earth focus on the major issues do not focus on the minor issues. Do not come to the word looking for knowledge but come to the word to eat and get to know Jesus and to obey and follow Him. Knowledge puffs up but love edifies.1Cor 8:1-2 . Beware of Tokoge ( The tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil) The Pharisees studied the Word every day and when the Word manifested in front of their eyes they were so blinded by their knowledge of the word, that they killed the very Word Himself. John5:39-40 Warning: The Word of God is dangerous and satan can use it to deceive you if you come to it with the wrong attitude. If you come to the word to get clever in the knowledge of God, then this will blind you, and you will become a Pharisee. You will be blind even though you know your bible backwards.
