HOW TO LIVE VIGILANTLY EPHESIANS 5:15-21
I. SEIZE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO GLORIFY GOD vv 15 &16
To make the most of every opportunity, means to seize every opportunity to be a Christian witness. This is being proactive in being a witness to our dark and evil world through our lives and actions. Two areas that we need to take to make the most of every opportunity: one is in the area of doing-good to others and the other is in the area of our character. We need to be active and not passive in doing good and influencing our society. We also need to make the most of the opportunity to develop our character, to be victorious and not be victims of this evil society.

Opening Prayer Call to Worship Welcome Praise and Worship Sermon - Pastor Hector de Guzman Tithes and Offerings Announcements Benediction Closing Song

II. SEEK AND OBEY THE WILL OF GOD v 17

This command means not only to know the will of the Lord but also to obey it. Vigilant living is seeking and obeying the will of the Lord. We are to live according to the will of God and not according to our own intelligence or understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths. The will of the Lord gives us direction on how to live in this evil society. To understand the Lords will is basically to understand His character and His plans. God is holy and therefore it is His will for us to be holy. God is truth and therefore it is His will for us to live truthfully. Sometimes our understanding of the will of God is somewhat distorted because of our poor understanding of God. And also, because of our poor understanding of God we have a hard time to trust God and follow His will.

III. SUBMIT TO THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT v18

Here Paul states two commands: Do not get drunk with wine and be filled with the Holy Spirit. One is a sign of foolishness and the other one a sign of wisdom. To get drunk is a sign of foolishness because it ruins your life. But to be filled with the Holy Spirit is an act of wisdom for it helps us do what is pleasing to God. So therefore, to be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be under the influence and control of the Holy Spirit, which leads to a victorious Christian life. It is submitting to the power and control of the Holy Spirit.

The smallest good act today is the capture of a strategic point from which, a few months later, you may be able to go on to victories you never dreamed of. (Clive Staples) C. S. Lewis
