Jesus taught His disciples how to pray. How would refer to the manner, the attitude, and the frame of mind while praying. The Lords prayer is also a summary of His teachings. It speaks of the priorities in the Christian life. The first part of the prayer begins with God the Father (Abba, Pater). This speaks of a special relationship (Father and children) and it points to Gods authority, at the same time, His loving care

Some important truths surface: Addressing God as Father is not a protocol or a mere formality; or a mere salutation/introduction to our prayer o He is the personal Father not a force (as in Star Wars) o He cares for us not indifferent against us o Because He is the Father, we thus have the right frame of mind when we pray we are talking to Daddy 2. Addressing God as Father gives us confidence in prayer o God is more generous than our earthly fathers (Mt. 7:9-11; Lk. 11:11-13) o God always gives what is best for His children, not what we want, but what we need 3. Addressing God as our Father reminds us that He is our collective Father the Church, as a Body, calls Him our Daddy o Only Jesus has the sole right to call God as My Father o The Fatherhood of God leads naturally to the brotherhood of the believers o We should share the Fathers attitude towards His children (Lk. 15:31-32); We should be prepared to admit others in Christ as our brothers and sisters although they may be different from us. We should always consider them as pamilya o It is a family that transcends racial, ethnic, social, and cultural boundaries 4. Addressing God as our Father in Heaven reminds us what kind of Father we have o He is the Heavenly Father o He is all-powerful, sovereign, transcendent Father, not limited by time of space (unlike our earthly fathers) 5. Praying to the Heavenly Father thus gives us a sense of: joytrustassurancepeaceconfidencesubmissionrelease 1.
