Callous Knees and a Humble Heart
BY PASTOR SANTOS YAO JAMES 1:1
James (Yakob in Hebrew) was an exceptional man. He was the half-brother of the Lord, yet as the key leader of the Church during his time, he never pull rank, insist on his credentials, or drop names. He simply calls himself a servant... a lowly person without rank or status. In describing him, both secular and Christian historians would agree that he was a humble person. His piety was well-known. People talked about his calloused knees, as thick as the camels hide, because of the time he spent on his knees in prayer. Although he was envied an hated by the priestly clan of the Jewish temple, he was well-loved by the Jerusalem community. Obviously, humility goes hand-in-hand with holiness (piety). Humble people dont seek to be great, nor do they draw attention to themselves, but to Christ alone. Humble people have a clearer self-image and self-worth, and thus, they are more teachable, more, gentle, and forgiving. As they relate to God, they are more obedient. No wonder they are more blessed. They do not feel the pressure to conform or to perform. Their worth is not derived from the fickle evaluations of people, nor from their natural endowments and the things they possessed. It is based only on the free grace of God. They feel secure in the unconditional love and acceptance of the Lord. Consequently, humble people knows the meaning of true and deep spirituality. And they can rejoice at all times in the Lord.
