RETAILING ASSIGNMENT TERM PROJECT

CONCEPTUAL NOTE FOR COMPLIANCE

History & Origins of the retailer & its evolutionary phases over the time of its existence, global rankings, market share of the retailer in its category over the last decade atleast, dominant formats of the retailer, no. of outlets, country of origin, dominant format of retailer, brief description of the founder & management etc. Financials of the retailer Annual report, Profitability ratios, Debt ratios etc Competitors of the retailer in its core segment only & comparative tables for various parameters for top 10 retail competitors only Competitive (Sustainable) advantage/differentiation of the retailer over its competition Innovations adopted by the retailer * - Business model of the retailer, Value chain analysis, any specific or unique strategic framework (model) applicable to the retailer in study Critical role of technology adoption & its strategic applications by the retailers Supply chain & logistics operations, Sourcing strategy, Warehousing, Inventory management tools/ techniques* Its applications in deriving competitive advantage for the retailer Merchandise mix strategy* Internationalisation & expansion strategy of the retailer* Marketing strategy* - Marketing mix, Product life cycle management, STP strategy. Service strategy*- Service architecture, Service mix, Services positioning, Service differentiation, Service as strategic differentiation tool CRM strategy* Web based- web advertising, Web as a tool for sales, marketing, & sourcing strategies, use of internet, Social media usage; Non web based Loyalty programmes.

Branding strategy* Differentiation, Positioning, Brand personality, Brand extensions etc Private label brand strategy* Sales promotion programs or strategies by the retailer* seasonal/niche - Unique/ specialized/

*Special note Points marked with asterisk (*) sign are where special marks will be given to the students for their unique contribution in the form of any rare award winning films/ video/documentary/rare footage/ award winning or unique case studies/research papers pertaining to the topic specified from reliable & quality resources provided its clean & good quality & viewable in the commonly available software formats.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE TERM PROJECT-:


Only those students are eligible who qualify the institute specified TNG norms & are not found in violation of the same The list of eligible students are those whose names do not feature in the defaulters list provided by the institute

NOTE -: No enquiries will be entertained regarding any ambiguity relating to the above

SUBMISSION CRITERIA -:
1) The project must be hard bound (Black with golden embossing) mentioning clearly the following Name of student; Roll No; Division; Name of Retail Brand selected for study 2) Font Style- Calibri (Body) or Times New Roman only; Font Size 12; Line Spacing 1.5 Margins- 1 Left & Right. The project must be not less than 50-60 pages 3) Index must contain list of topics mentioned clearly with page nos & a separate index must be made for indicating list of tables/charts/graphs/figures if any

4) A comprehensive list of data sources must be mentioned in the appendix section indicating things like source of data, its date, author, name of the report etc. 5) Each new Chapter (Topic) must begin on a new page clearly mentioning the title of the chapter 6) Students should submit the ads/films/documentaries/relevant reports downloaded from the net (PDF format only) in CD/DVD which should be stuck firmly on the inside back cover of the hard bound copy of the project mentioning details as given in Pt. No 1above on the CD 7) The students must ensure the ads/films/documentaries thus provided must be good quality, clear, & viewable in the commonly available software or else they will have to resubmit, failing which marks will be deducted

Date of Initiation -15th Sept11 Last Date of Submission -14th Oct11 (4.00 pm IST) Total Duration-30 Days Preliminary Progress Report (Not exceeding 02 pages)- 1st Oct11 Submission of Executive summary report(Not exceeding 02-03 pages)- 10th Oct11

Total Marks -30 marks

DISCIPLINARY NORMS (Extremely Important)-:


As this term project is being taken in lieu of written exam due seriousness & weightage has been assigned to it & students should take note of the same Failure to submit the project on time will lead to the student losing his term which will be the responsibility of the student entirely Under no circumstances whatsoever the date/s will be extended No excuses whatsoever for failure to submit the project within the deadlines will be entertained even if they be of placement related, sickness, death of relatives, marriage, grand festivals, etc etc. The project must be submitted only in the specified format mentioned or else it will not be accepted Outright copying of past years projects of other students/downloading reports from web & claiming as own will lead to disqualification & being marked as failed The decision of the faculty concerned is final & binding
