Panchatatva Mantra
jaya sri-krishna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda sri-adwaita gadadhara shrivasadi-gaura-bhaktavrinda

= The Peace formula

I offer my respectful obeisances unto Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Lord Nityananda, Sri Advaita, Gadadhara Pandit, Srivas Thakur, and all the devotees of Lord Caitanya.

he great mistake of modern civilization is to encroach upon others property as though it were ones own and to thereby create an unnecessary disturbance of the laws of nature. These laws are very strong. No living entity can violate them. Only one who is Ka conscious can easily overcome the stringency of the laws of nature and thus become happy and peaceful in the world. As a state is protected by the department of law and order, so the state of Universe, of which this earth is only an insignificant fragment, is protected by the laws of nature. This material nature is one of the different potencies of God, who is the ultimate proprietor of everything that be. This earth is, therefore, the property of God, but we, the living entities, especially the socalled civilized human beings, are claiming Gods property as our own, under both an individual and collective false conception. If you want peace, you have to remove this false conception from your mind and from the world. This false claim of proprietorship by the human race on earth is partly or wholly the cause of all disturbances of peace on earth. Foolish and so-called civilized men are claiming proprietary rights on the property of God because they have now become godless. You cannot be happy and peaceful in a godless so-

ciety. In the Bhagavad-gt Lord Ka says that He is the factual enjoyer of all activities of the living entities, that He is the Supreme Lord of all universes, and that He is the wellwishing friend of all beings. When the people of the world know this as the formula for peace, it is then and there that peace will prevail. Therefore, if you want peace at all, you will have to change your consciousness into Ka consciousness, both individually and collectively, by the simple process of chanting the holy name of God. This is a standard and recognized process for achieving peace in the world. We therefore recommend that everyone become Ka conscious by chanting Hare Ka, Hare Ka, KaKa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rma, Hare Rma, Rma Rma, Hare Hare. This is practical, simple, and sublime. Four hundred and eighty years ago this formula was introduced in India by Lord rCaitanya, and now it is available in your country. Take to this simple process of chanting as above mentioned, realize your factual position by reading the Bhagavad-gt As It Is, and reestablish your lost relationship with Ka, God. Peace and prosperity will be the immediate worldwide result.

Search for Happiness

was very deeply pondering about a thought which I am sure would have crossed your minds too at some point in time in life. I was strongly wondering whether we are all very happy? Whether we retain the happiness each day and all through our life? My introspection led me to realize that we are not always happy. Our Happiness is just temporary. We are forever craving for happiness, peace of mind etc and the search or the quest for this Happiness is never ending. We see our parents even at this age still unhappy and dissatisfied about something or the other. What is it that we are searching for then? Let's say we go out for a box office hit movie with our close friends and family. We are engrossed in the movie for 3 hours in the company of our near and dear ones and at the same time enjoying eatables. We enjoy jokes and once it ends, we come out and discuss about the same movie, scene by scene, about the location, the actors, the songs, the director etc. We feel very happy and for the next couple of days we hum those songs, we tend to recollect the beautiful dialogues or the scenes in the movie. But, for how long? Maybe, a day or for a few days more. Then, again we feel bored and wish to watch another movie, have another get-together with our dear and near ones. This goes on... And we are going on like this, all the time searching for that complete happiness, which is eluding us. We are chasing it hoping to grab it. But, the reality is we are not able to. We have advanced and made great progress in science and technology. Plenty of gadgets have been invented for our comfort. But, are we really happy at every step of our life? If we sit back and think, really we are not happy. We rightfully define any event as a happy moment in our life! Yes, it's a moment and it is gone because it is temporary.

mind. The answer to this question, I felt would bring me great solace and also Happiness. What I understood and experienced, I felt I should share with others too and lead towards Happiness. To understand what exactly happiness is I felt that I needed to understand what is it that we are doing to seek happiness. What are the activities that we are carrying out and which are leading us towards happiness. I tried an analysis of all my activities by which I was feeling happy. I was surprised and amazed to find that all my activities were revolving only around four major activities. I feel these are the activities we perform all through our lives. Whatever we do revolves

Days? We again crave for the same taste. We eat well, so that we can work well. Similarly after a tiring day at work, we get back home and we sleep well. We do this to relax our mind and body. We feel happy having slept for so many hours. We still complain saying that we didn't have enough sleep. We choose holidays or weekends as relaxation times to sleep for a longer duration. But, if we analyze all our activities in a 24hour span, we will be surprised to realize that we spend more than 50% of the day in sleep itself!!!! We sleep well to work with good concentration and zeal at our workplace and in turn we wish to earn well. But for what? To eat well again, to have a nice

sit down and think, we find that animals similarly perform these activities too. Animals are doing these activities as per their intelligence level and we are doing it as per our intelligence level. All our advancement and progress in technology is around only these four activities. Then, can we be equated with animals? Are we also just like any another animal? Aren't we different from them? What is it that distinguishes us from them? Is there something that makes us stand apart from animals? Or are we just "Animal the Great"? Purpose of Human Life Let us understand then what is the distinction factor between the animals and we humans. The one and only one major distinction between humans and the animals is "Higher Intelligence". Yes, we are gifted with the ability to discriminate, to enquire about the cause of our life, our sufferings and the destination of our life.

around these activities itself.

Can you guess what these four main activities are, by which we are seeking Happiness? The four main activities which we perform everyday in our lives are eating, sleeping, mating and defending. We spend all our lives trying to seek happiness within these activities. We like to eat the best. We have our own likes and dislikes. We choose the best of the eating joint. We feel very happy after having tasted the best of the food. So, what is this Happiness? This But for how long does this feelquestion had always bogged my ing last? A few months? Weeks?

n the age of Kali, the age of hypocrisy and falsehood, many cheaters try to pass themselves off as avataras of the Supreme Lord Himself, with the purpose of obtaining easy honors, profit, worship and distinction. Many people are easily misled into believing them because they do not have sufficient knowledge of the scriptural injuctions.

People of Kali yuga should listen only to those masters who sincerely, humbly and consistently preach the yuga dharma by introducing themselves simply as servants of the Supreme Lord. People of all ages, social classes, cultural levels and intelligence can engage joyfully in this transcendental method, by reciting or chanting the Names, the forms, the qualities and the pastimes of the Lord that seem most attractive to them. This is the special blessing of the most munificent incarnation, Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in 1486 a.D. in Mayapur, (district of Nadia), West Bengal. He was the son of Jagannath Mishra and Srimati Saci Devi; as He w a s b o r n under a neem tree, in His childhood He

Finally He remained in Sri Jagannath Puri Dhama for the last 18 years of His life, completely immersed in the transcendental loving ecstasy, speaking and listening about Lord Krishna only. His teachings are summarized in the famous Sikshastaka verses and in the many books written by His direct disciples and their disciples. In particular, the six Goswamis of Vrindavan (Rupa Goswami, Sanatana Goswami, Jiva Goswami, Raghunath Das Goswami, Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami, Gopala Bhatta Goswami) wrote many important texts of Vaishnava philosophy and practice, like Bhakti-rasamrita sindhu (The ocean of the Nectar of Devotion), Upadeshamrita (The Nectar of Instruction), the six Sandarbhas, etc., which are presently available in different languages. kale prathamasandhyayam / gaurangakhyam mahitale bhagirathi tate ramye / bharishyami sanatana "At the beginning of Kali yug I will appear on the bank of River Ganges, accepting the name of Gauranga and spreading happiness on all the inhabitants of the Earth." The astrologer who calculated His birth chart declared that this boy had appeared in different ages with different bodily colours and that in His last incarnation He had been a blackish cowherd boy. Anyway, during all His life Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu never directly presented Himself as an avatar of Krishna; whenever people would recognize Him as God Himself, He would cover His ears and loudly chant the name of Krishna. Many instances show His extraordinary character and pastimes: these anecdotes are fully reported in three famous Bengali biographies of Lord Chaitanya: Sri Chaitanya Bhagavata, Sri Chaitanya Mangala and Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita. We invite our readers to study these books to learn more about the life and teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Sri Chaitanya left His home at the age of 24 and travelled extensively all over India, preaching the sublime message of love for the

During the Dwapara Yuga, Lord Sri Ka convinced the cowherd men to worship Govardhana, instead of doing a sacrifice to please Lord Indra, the King of heaven, who is in charge of the rain. His reasons for discouraging the sacrificial ceremony to please Lord Indra were twofold. First, as stated in the Bhagavad-Gita there was no need to worship the demigods for any material advancement. Secondly, whatever temporary result one derives is actually granted by the permission of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This act of stopping his puja angered Lord Indra and in return he sent torrents of rain upon Vrindavan. The residents approached Lord Ka for help. It was then that Sri Ka lifted Govardhana Hill and held it over the residents like a giant umbrella. Seeing extraordinary mystic power of Ka, Indra, was thunderstruck and immediately called for all the clouds and asked them to desist. He then worshipped Lord Ka. Since Lord Ka is worshipped, His Land Vrindavan and Govardhana Hill also need to be worshipped. Since then, Govardhana puja has been going on. In all the temples of Vrindavan huge quantities of food are prepared in this ceremony and are distributed to general public. According to the Vedic scriptures Giri Govardhan is greater than even the transcendental kingdom of Vaikuntha, the eternal abode of Lord Vishnu.

lfred Ford was born into one of Americas richest families, as a great grandson of the famous Henry Ford, who gave the world the motor car and the assembly line. Though I belong to a family which had everything, still, there was unhappiness and frustration. Says the man who has come as close as any to having it all materially. I wasnt satisf i e d w i t h material opulence. I was looking for reality that was eternal, say Alfred Ford. I wanted to know what God looked like; I was looking for personal connection with god, a relationship with him. . . . George Harrison who had become involved in Ka consciousness produced an album which I bought when I was in college. It was a life-defining moment. As soon as the first Bhajan began, he says, he found himself crying. It touched something very, very deep in my heart. It was a profound experience. I realized that this was the concept of God I was looking for- Govinda the most attractive....the protector of Cows... the most beautiful. . . Always youthful. . . Eyes like blooming flowers. . I read Prabhupadas translation of Bhagavad-Gita, and soon, I started to change my lifestyle. I had turned vegetarian in college and I had stopped drinking, and then I started cooking vegetarian food and offering it to Ka as prasadam. I started chanting on my japa mala and studying Prabhupadas books. Soon a guru disciple relationship began to develop between the 20-something heir to one of Americas biggest fortunes and the 70-something pontiff of one of Hinduisms largest movements. To please his guru he bought a six lakhs dollar mansion in Honolulu to house a temple and learning centre. Finally, they met. I was very nervous as I knew this was a great personality. So, I bowed to him and as I was coming up, he said to me, So you are Henry Fords great grandson where is he now? And that question immediately made me realize that life is so temporary. Ka consciousness teaches you that only eternal relationship and identity you have is with Ka. Life, more or less, settled into a routine now. There was the chanting, the worship at the temple that began at 4 AM and lasted till about 9 AM, and then there was office to attend to, where he: Worked as the trustee of the Ford Motor Company Fund, in charge of companys charitable work. woods, but to fulfill his purpose here in the material world. Go ahead and achieve what you have to, be the best of what you can be, but at the same time, dont neglect your spiritual life, he says simply. Wealth is a gift from GOD. Its best if it is used to help others and serve Him ultimately, says Ford who is financing a multimillion d o l lar Vedic planetarium and spiritual center in Mayapur, near Kolkata, as well as several other spiritual welfare projects all over the world. Through this living example of Alfred Ford we see demonstrated many spiritual truths including: Even if one has fabulous amounts of material wealth, it does not make one happy A true spiritual teacher doesnt flatter a wealthy disciple; rather he points out the futility of material wealth and enriches the sincere disciple with spiritual wisdom, which alone brings real happiness. To take up spiritual practices all that one has to do is bring GOD into the center of ones life and heart. One doesnt have to renounce ones material possessions and positions. All that one has to renounce is ones sinful self-destructive habits like Meat-eating, Gambling, Intoxication and Illicit Sex. Regular Spiritual practices bring a satisfaction so deep that even a Shrewd and successful business magnate considers a worthwhile and essential investment of time to reserve the entire morning every day for meditation, prayer and other spiritually nourishing activities. Wealth brings us real happiness only when used in the service of God and His children. To summarise, we need to clarify to ourselves what the source of real happiness is: not material wealth, but spiritual connection with GOD. If we are spiritually disconnected, we will, by default, seek pleasures through eating, Sleeping, mating, defending. Consequently, we feel perturbed when economic upheavals threaten or disrupt our arrangements for these pleasures. But if we are spiritually connected with the supreme, then, being reassured by the knowledge that our internal reservoir of happiness is not affected by any external upheaval, we will be able to calmly and confidently do the needful to deal with external upheavals. Therefore the second principle for converting Adversity into opportunity is:
