PSALM 23 ; JEHOVAH GOD Numerous writers have over the years made substantial comments on these verses, for

the availability of the public. V 1. The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. JEHOVAH ROHI ; You see me. The shepherd and his works were well known throughout Israel who likened God as the great Shepherd of Israel. The shepherds kept a good watch over their sheep and the shepherd with a smallish flock knew them by name. The sheep were precious to the shepherds who were often the owners of them. Christ referred Himself as the Shepherd of the sheep He saves, He keeps, He satisfies, All my needs my Lord supplies He walks with me when the way seems long I lean on Him for my Saviour is strong. EZEKIEL 34 ; 12-14 ; As the shepherd seeks out his flock in the day, in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered, so will I seek out My sheep and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. V 14 ; I will feed them in good pastures and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be. There shall they live in a good fold and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel I PETER 2 v 25 ; For you were as sheep going astray but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. I PETER 5 v 4 ; And when the chief Shepherd shall appear you shall receive a crown of glory that fades not away. V 2. He makes me to lie down in green pastures He leads me beside still waters. JEHOVAH SHALOM. The God of Peace. In Jesus Christ we have all the blessing that the good Shepherd received from God.. The psalmist has received great blessings from His Good Shepherd and he lets us know that we too can know God and His Son as Saviour and Shepherd also. HEBREWS 13 v 20-21 ; Now the God of peace that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ to whom be glory for ever and ever. PSALM 68-19 ; Blessed be the Lord who daily loads us with benefits even the God of our salvation. EPHESIANS 2 v 14 ; For He is our peace who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us. PSALM 107 v 21 ; 0 that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and His wonderful works to the children of men. What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought Since Jesus came into my life.I have light in my soul for which long I have sought Since Jesus came into my heart. V 3. HE restores my soul. JEHOVAH ROPHEKA. Our Healer and Redeemer. PSALM 103 v 3-4 ; Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies. He is ever willing to forgive the truly repentant sinner. Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saves a wretch like me I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see. Psalm 103 v 12 ; As far as the East is from the West, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Spirit of the living God fall afresh on me Spirit of the living God fall afresh on me. V3. He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name's sake. JEHOVAH TSIDKENU. The Lord our righteousness. 1 PETER 3 v 10-12 ; For he that will love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips that they speak no guile. Let him eschew evil and do good, let him seek peace and pensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous and His ears are open to their prayers, but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you if you be followers of that which is good. PSALM 32 v 8 ; I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go, I will guide you with My

eye Paths of righteousness please God, paths of satan bring down the wrath of God . We have a mighty God who cares for us and seeks to guide us along those paths of righteousness. HEBREWS 13 v 5, 8 ; Let your conversation be without covetousness and be content with such things as you have, for He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. What will wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus Not of good that I have done, nothing but the blood of Jesus. V4. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. JEHOVAH SHAMMAL. You are with me. God is ever with those who love Him and truly worship Him. PSALM 24 v 3-5 ; Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord or who shall stand in His holy place. He that has clean hands and a pure heart , who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Safe am I, safe am 1, in the hollow of His hand Sheltered o'er, sheltered o'er, with his love for evermore. V4. Your rod and staff they comfort me. EL SHADDAI. The Almighty all sufficient God. ever watchful over His sheep, the staff to smite marauding animals, and the rod with a loop at one end to pull sheep out of a ditch or hole. PSALM 40 v 2 ; He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, and out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. PSALM 50 v 14-15 ; Offer unto God thanksgiving and pay your vows unto the most High. And call upon Me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me. Our great Shepherd Jesus knows His flock by name and is ever mindful of their needs. He provides for them not only in this world but also for eternity. Let us acclaim Him as Lord and Redeemer. Tenderly He watches over you every step every mile of the way Like a mother watches over her baby, He is near you every hour of the day Long before time began you were part of His plan Let no fear cloud your brow, He will not forsake you now. V 5. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. JEHOVAH JIREH. Our provider. As the Shepherd leads His flock into green pastures and to fresh waters, he provides, protects and promises to lead us through life's journey and on to eternity . He gives us peace in the midst of turmoil. JOHN 10-v 27-28 ; My sheep hear My voice and I know them and they follow me and I give to them eternal life and they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of My-hand. JOHN 10 v 11 ; I am the good Shepherd, the good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep. PROVERBS 16 v 7 ; When a man's ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. JOHN 6 v 51 ; I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread he shall live for ever. And the bread that I will give him is My flesh which I will give for the life of the world. I hunger and I thirst, Jesus my Manna be The living waters burst out of the rock for me Thou bruised and broken reed my life long want supply. As living souls are fed, 0 feed me or I die. V5. You anoint my head with oil. JEHOVAH McKADDESH. My sanctifier. The Eastern shepherd examined his sheep each night before he put them in a corral for protection from wild animals. If a sheep had scratched its face or bruised its head during feeding, olive oil was put on the cuts to heal them. Symbolic of Christ anointing us with the Holy Spirit and setting us apart to serve Him, in God's vineyard. PSALM 123 v 1-2 ; Behold how good and pleasant it is for the brethren to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious ointment that ran down upon the beard , even Aaron's beard that went down to the skirts of his garments. We cannot be anointed with the love of Jesus until we have truly repented of our sins and received

forgiveness from God,, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Not my will but Thine be done but let the fullness of Thy Son Rule within this life which I have offered You. V 5. My cup runneth over. EL SHADDAI. The Almighty all sufficient God. How fortunate is the born again believer who happily acclaims Jesus as Lord and Saviour for he then has the Godhead taking part in the running of and protecting him during his life on this earth. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Our salvation is provided for us through the Lord Jesus Christ and seals us with the Holy Spirit, PSALM 68 v 4 ; Sing unto God, sing praises to His name. Extol Him that rides upon the heavens by His name JAH and rejoice before Him. PSALM 28 v 6-7 ; Blessed be the Lord because He has heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield, My heart trusted in Him and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices and with my song will I praise Him. 0 happy day that fixed my choice on You my Saviour and my God. Well may this glowing heart rejoice and tell its rapture all abroad. V6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. JEHOVAH ELOHIM. The eternal ever loving One, offering life to whoever needs it. PSALM 37 v 23-25. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. and he delights in his way. Though he fall he shall not be utterly cast down for the Lord upholds him with His hand. I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread. PSALM 37 v 3-5 ; Trust in the Lord and do good, so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed. delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heat. Commit your way unto the Lord trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass, PSALM 138 v 1-2 ; I will praise You with my whole heart before the gods will I sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name foe Your loving kindness and for Your truth, for You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Goodness and mercy and compassion are God's gift to His children along with many other wonderful promises for our needs and protection. I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me Confused at the grace He that so fully He proffers me. I tremble to know that for me He was crucified That for me a sinner, He suffered He bled and died. V6. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. EL OLAM ; The eternal everlasting God. GENESIS 21 v 33 ; And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba and called on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God. PSALM 45 v 6 ; Your throne 0 God is for ever. So if God is everlasting and Jesus has promised us everlasting life then we can believe and greatly rejoice. JOHN 11 v 27-28 ; My sheep hear My voice and I know them and they follow me. And I give to them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall man pluck them out of My hand. When all my labours and trials are o'er And I am safe on that beautiful shore Just to be near the dear Lord I adore, Will through the ages be glory for me 0 that will be glory for me, glory for me Glory for me, when by His grace I shall look on His face, That will be glory, glory for me.
