Oryana Food Co-op General Manager Job Description

Purpose: To oversee all aspects of Co-op operations to meet organizational Ends established by the Board of Directors while remaining within Board defined limits and aligned with the Co-ops mission statement. Status: Full-time, salaried management position that reports to the Board. Supervises: Directly: Store Manager, Education and Outreach Department Managers, and all administrative staff Indirectly: All personnel

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Supervision and Leadership Oversee through the Store Manager all of store operations based on the goals, objectives, and standards of the organization Oversee and assist in the supervision of all department managers, including front-end and food service in achieving all goals and objectives Oversee all departmental planning and goal setting Oversee compliance to established policies, procedures and guidelines Effectively manage through clear, direct, and respectful communications Model supportive and participatory leadership promoting the concepts of teambuilding and empowerment Model the principles associated with a model workplace Establish organizational goals and objectives Financial Accountability Participate in and oversee the preparation of all annual budgets Oversee the monitoring and managing of all labor and other controllable expenditures within budget Understand and utilize the financial tools and reports available to support the operation Operations Ensure that a store wide weekly schedule is created to cover organizational needs within budget Manage paperwork and reporting in a timely and accurate fashion Oversee Store Manger and assist in providing input and support for department managers Manage to ensure equipment and physical plant are properly maintained Work to ensure the store is neat, clean and safe Monitor overall store conditions to meet customer service and budgetary goals Help direct and maintain inventory, product mix and merchandising standards sufficient to meet organizational ends and goals Ensure compliance with all applicable laws Customer Service Model organizational service goals and assist with the training of staff to meet those goals Help develop, oversee, and manage a system that directs customers to appropriate staff for assistance Help design, develop, and maintain a store that is well designed, well merchandised and customer friendly

Help evaluate and identify customer service needs Assist with developing and providing necessary training to reach customer service standards

Human Resources Help identify and then ensure organizational training needs are met Help develop and oversee a system to insure that all new staff have been through the orientation process Help develop and maintain a system of staff feedback designed to facilitate communication within and among departments Participate in direct one on one performance feedback with supervisors and staff as necessary Help facilitate the flow of information among staff Safety Work to ensure that all staff are trained in and follow all organizational safety procedures and guidelines Board Relationship Demonstrate a reasonable interpretation of Board Policy Ensure the organization remains within Board Policy Monitor policies in a timely fashion as required and defined by the Board of Directors Remain at all times within the Board stated Executive Limitations Work to achieve Board stated organizational Ends Policies Other Perform other duties as assigned by the Board
