The Centre for Organizational Health and Well Being, located within Lancaster Universitys School of Health and Medicine brings together world class academics to work with Chief Medical Officers, Occupational Health professionals and HR Directors to address cutting edge issues in the areas of health and well being which contribute to business performance. The centre represents an innovative partnership between the School of Health and Medicine, Lancaster University Management School, government and major public and private organisations. The PhD in Organizational Health and Well Being is a part time distance e-learning programme that gives students the opportunity to conduct their research within their own organization and address real issues of organizational relevance.

About The Doctorate


The aim of this doctorate is to equip individuals currently working, or aspiring to work, in the area of organizational health and well being to develop their knowledge and understanding of the psychological, social and organizational aspects of the dynamic relationship between work and health.

Entry Requirements
The standard minimum entry requirements are a recognised first degree or equivalent. Where English is not the first language a threshold of IELTS score of 6.5 is required.

The objectives of the course are:


< To develop research and knowledge management skills. < To develop understanding and synthesis of psychological, social and organizational aspects of the dynamic relationship between work and health. < To develop a critical understanding of theories, models and concepts. < To apply this knowledge and conduct autonomous research in an organizational setting.

Mode of Study
The course will be delivered primarily through distance e-learning supported by an annual residential block. Years 1 and 2 involve taught modules in research methods and organizational health and well being issues. Years 3 onwards are the research component which will be supervised from Lancaster but undertaken in the students environment.

It is not restricted to any one professional group or discipline, and is intended to be international in focus appealing to individuals working across a variety of public, private and voluntary sectors.
