ST. LOUIS CATHEDRAL: St. Louis Cathedral’s fifth annual Gala is scheduled
for Oct. 12 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Proceeds will benefit the restoration and
ongoing maintenance of the cathedral.

ALL SAINTS: Holy Family Sister Letitia Senegal is scheduled to return to the
parish from her vacation on Aug. 1... Eucharistic Holy Hour will resume Aug. 3
from 2 to 3 p.m. in the rectory chapel.

ANNUNCIATION (Bogalusa): Coadjutor Archbishop Alfred Hughes celebrated


Mass in the parish recently. A reception, coordinated by Sylvia Hughes and
Rosemary Marx, followed Mass... Parishioner Johnny Entrevia is the newly
elected president of the Bogalusa Italian-American Cultural Society... Altar
servers Stephen Adams, Joseph Bergeron and Brandon Talley recently held a
workshop for altar servers in the church.

BLESSED SACRAMENT: Josephite Father Howard Byrd, pastor, and associate


Claretian Father Joseph Okoro, and all the parishioners congratulated Alex and
Joyce Plicque on their recent 50th wedding anniversary. The couple donated the
altar flowers for the happy occasion.

EPIPHANY: The Band Booster Association of St. Augustine High School will
host a two-part musical extravaganza called, “A Gospel Explosion,” July 27 at 7
p.m. and July 28 at 8 p.m. at Epiphany.

HOLY GHOST: Junior Daughters of Court No. 52, Knights of Peter Claver,
raised $231 for Sickle Cell Research in the recent can shake... The Family Life
Apostolate hosted the annual Substance and Supper event for married couples.
Included were a seminar, Mass and a candlelight dinner... Bible Study classes are
held on the first and third Wednesdays and the second and fourth Thursdays at
6:30 p.m.

HOLY NAME OF JESUS: The school needs CCD teachers for its fall opening.
The program meets weekly for an hour of class time. Those interested may
contact Buddy Noel in the Office of Religious Education, 861-7432... The parish
blood drive will take place July 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.

HOLY SPIRIT: The new Pastoral Council members are Ryan Boudreaux,
Yvonne Carnes, Frank Cerniglia, Gwytha Telotta, Mark Marcel, Ray Lorio and
Tom Guntherberg. They join Brian North, John Vail, Kim Barrett, Patty Home,
Woody Robert, Sam Scarnato, Pat Smith and ex-officio Marcia Hubbard.

MARY, QUEEN OF PEACE (Mandeville): The school is accepting applications


for a part-time librarian and a part-time Spanish teacher. Interested parties may

phone the school office, (985) 674-2466... Brett Vanderbrook recently was
awarded the Eagle of the Cross Award, the highest honor a young Catholic
person can receive from the Youth Ministry community.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES (Slidell): Robert Burtin and Avia Louise Gelis
celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 4. The lifelong parishioners are the
parents of two children and eight grandchildren.

OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY: The Holy Rosary Players are sponsoring a
Mid-Summer’s Night Dance on July 21 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Music will be provided by “The Horizon Band.” Door prizes will be awarded.
Tickets are $25 per couple and $13 per person.

ST. ANDREW THE APOSTLE: The Ladies Guild will meet Aug. 3 at 9:15 a.m.
in the Activity Center. Free baby-sitting will be provided.

ST. AUGUSTINE: Cecilia Galle was honored recently for 26 years of service
with the St. Vincent de Paul Society... The parish thanks Cora Charles for her
work on the Women’s Revival.

ST. DOMINIC: The next Supper and Substance will be held July 21 at 7 p.m. in
the cafeteria. Jodi and Matt Ridley will be guest speakers... James Tebbe Jr. and
Anne Kramer have been elected to the school board.

ST. FRANCES CABRINI: The parish thanks Greg Wright, Ed Jones, Donald
Micka and Anthony Ragusa for repairing and restoring loose bricks in front of
the church... The Gift Shop is closing and all merchandise is now 50 percent off.

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI: Michael Barry, Lauren Lagarde and Paul Vetter were
elected to the parish council.

ST. GENEVIEVE (Slidell): Father Jose Roel Lungay has taken over as pastor,
effective July 7.

ST. HENRY: Father Godfred Boakye Yiadom from the Diocese of Obuasi,
Ghana, made a mission appeal at the parish recently.

ST. JAMES MAJOR: The Youth Group will have a raffle of a Snow People
Family July 29.

ST. JANE DE CHANTAL (Abita Springs): The parish purchased the old Post
Office building across Main Street from the church and expanded its parking
space for parishioners. The building is being refinished for use as a small
Assembly Hall, primarily for the parish’s youth.

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST (Folsom): Preparations are getting underway for the
parish fair Sept. 15 and 16... The KC Appreciation Dinner will be July 29.

ST. JOSEPH (New Orleans): Dr. Mary Caire is recipient of the St. Joseph Award
for July... The St. Joseph High School Graduating Class of 1961 will have a
reunion Aug. 12, beginning with the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph. Call 833-6804
for more information.

ST. LUKE THE EVANGELIST (Slidell): Lilia Beau and Jim Connor have been
elected to the Pastoral Council... The Pre-School Mothers’ Club will have a
Welcome Aboard luncheon Aug. 26 at 2 p.m.... Kathy Corredine is new president
of the Ladies’ Club... The Good Samaritans will kick off their School Supply
Drive for needy students Aug. 4-5... Vacation Bible School is July 23-27.

ST. MARGARET MARY (Slidell): The Intercessory Prayer and Mass at St.
Monica has been rescheduled for Aug. 24... Vacation Bible School will be July
30-Aug. 3... The Youth Ministry and Habitat Group will have a car wash July
21... A parish blood drive will be held July 22.

ST. MARIA GORETTI: The Holy Name Society will recite the rosary in the
Msgr. Gauthreaux Center July 24 and Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. The rosary will air live
over 600 WVOG-AM... The celebration of St. Maria Goretti’s feast day has been
rescheduled for Aug. 4. Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Following Mass, Msgr.
Earl Gauthreaux, pastor, will bless the St. Maria Goretti Altar in the Msgr.
Gauthreaux Center. The celebration will also mark Msgr. Gauthreaux’s 45th
anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.

ST. MATTHIAS: The St. Vincent de Paul Society recently elected Sharon
Bastian, president; Ester Lawless, vice president; Thomas Hebert, treasurer, and
Margaret Johnson, secretary... Antoinette Square was the winner of the color TV
raffled off by the choir... Those interested in learning to speak Spanish are urged
to contact the rectory.

ST. MONICA: Parishioner Toni Hyde was certified as an emergency medical


technician. She is stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi... The
Women’s Day Program will take place Aug. 5 at 3 p.m... The parish will
celebrate the Feast of St. Monica with a novena Aug. 18-26.

ST. PETER (Covington): The following parishioners celebrated the Sacrament of


Confirmation at St. Louis Cathedral on Pentecost: Jennifer Alvarez, Suzette
Church, Zera Flores, Jennifer Hart, Michael LaCombe, Heather Pullen, Michael
Stange and Melissa Wahl... Newly elected pastoral council members are Randy
Eustis, Chris Forstall and Dan McKnight.

STS. PETER AND PAUL (Pearl River): The parish welcomes seminarian
Edward Lauden, who will be doing his internship with Father Bac-Hai Viet Tran,
pastor... A new confessional is being built in the church and the cry room is being
enlarged... Father Efren S. Sanchez of the Daet Diocese in the Philippines will
conduct a mission appeal during all Masses July 21-22... The parish will host a
blood drive Aug. 26 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

ST. PIUS X: The St. Pius X Players will present the musical “Annie Get Your
Gun” July 24-28 with an 8 p.m. curtain, and a matinee performance July 29 at 2
p.m... New officers of the Mothers’ Club are Missy Dubois, president, and
Marian Rolf, vice president... New Men’s Club officers are Mike Gallagher,
president, and Tom Bagwill, vice president... The Mothers’ Club cookbook is
available through the school office at a cost of $7... Stephanie Smith won the
Presidential Academic Fitness Award.

ST. STEPHEN: The school is adding two new classrooms for the Chartwell
program for autistic children at St. Stephen. The building is expected to be
completed this fall... Parishioners Annette and John Ebert had triplets, Ashton
John, Sophie Blair and Emma Louise... Sister Maria Francesco Ha pronounced
her final vows with the Daughters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. Sister Ha
teaches kindergarten at St. Stephen School.
