TRUCK DRIVER

DESCRIPTION:
Truck Drivers drive slave cylinder or hydraulic motor trucks to trnasport/dump materials, such as sand, gravel or crushed rock. They pull levers or turn cranks to tilt body and dump content often loading by hand or by operating mechanical loader. They are designated according to type of equipment driven or materials hauled.

Duties:
Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks, to transport goods and material to destinations Oversee condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and safety and security of cargo Perform pre-trip inspection/repairs of equipment such as tires, lights, brakes etc. Record cargo info, distance traveled, fuel consumption etc. in a log or on on-board computer Communicate with dispatcher and other drivers using two-way radio

SKILLs:
Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials Have good communication skills, being able to take direction from customers and dispatcher Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical tness, perform emergency roadside repairs Responsible, safe with strong communication, inter-personal and record keeping skills

EDUCATION:
You usually need a high school diploma often receiving on the job training Drivers who operate vehicles equipped with air brakes must have air brake endorsements Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certication needed to transport dangerous goods

OVER THE NEXT 2 DECADES 40% OF NEW JOBS WILL BE IN SKILLED TRADES AND TECHNOLOGIES

SALARY: $31,400 to $48,900

You can begin by applying for a job directly in the Civil Construction Industry. Once you begin working with a Construction Company or Contractor you will quickly gain the necessary skills needed to advance yourself through in-house, work-as-you-learn training. You can enrol in a University, Community College or a Private Technical School to study and prepare yourself for a Career in Civil Construction. All of this information may be found through our website. You can get started through an apprenticeship program by combining on the job training with technical in-class training gaining experience and increased responsibility. You can work in the industry, get paid and work towards earning credits.
