On behalf of the College of Radiology (CoR), and the Malaysian Society of Radiographers (MSR), it is our pleasure to invite you to the 1st Joint Scientific Meeting to be held in Penang, Malaysia from March 30th to April 1st 2012. The Scientific Meeting provides one of the most impor tant oppor tunities to showcase excellence and innovation in Cancer Imaging. This is timely as cancer is on the rise and fighting it is our mission. The organising committee has put together a very interesting program that can cater for the different needs of the radiologists and radiographers.The program also provides oppor tunities to network, exchange information, resources and ideas and to explore new and innovative work. Social and networking events showcase the vibrant city of Penang (Pearl of the Orient). It is our sincere hope that you will come and join us in the journey to fight cancer through sharing of knowledge, experiences and passion. To MSR members, we would like to inform you that we will be having the 42nd Annual General Meeting too. Hence, please do plan ahead and make it to this memorable meeting. Penang International Airport arrival

After clearing Customs, suggest you head for the registered airport limo counter to purchase a coupon for your ride to downtown Penang. The limo ride will be about 10 mins depending on traffic flow to the hotel.

Arrival by road
If you are arriving by express bus, take a taxi from the bus station to the hotel. If you are driving into Penang, try to arrive during off-peak hours. Otherwise, you will be caught in traffic jams from most entry points into the city. The peak hours are usually from 7.30-9.00am in the mornings and 4.30-7.30pm in the evenings. Downpours will lead to premature and extended jams.

Arrival by ferry
The ferry service links George Town on Penang Island and Butterworth on the mainland. The first ferry departure from Butterworth is at 6.00am, with the last at 12.30am; and from Penang Island the first ferry of the day will depart at 5.30am, with the last at 1.00am. From there, please take a taxi to the hotel.

Language
(Bahasa Melayu) Malay is the national language in use, but English is widely spoken. The ethnic groups also converse in the various languages and dialects.

Religion
Islam is the official religion of the country, but other religions are widely practised.

Weather
The country experiences tropical weather year-round. Temperatures are from 21C (70F) to 32C (90F). Higher elevations are much colder with temperatures between 15C (59 F) to 25C (77F). Annual rainfall varies from 2,000mm to 2,500mm.

Currency
The monetary unit of the country is Ringgit Malaysia and is written as RM. The exchange rate is valued at USD1 = RM3.00. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and money changers.
