2)Damana:-Dispeller, 2) One who controls and punishes those who swerve from their
prescribed path.
3)Hamsa:- Like Hamsa pakshi.mythycally hamsa pakshi is been shown as an example for
pure thoughts.( based on color in da early days)
4)Suparna:-"su" in sanskrit means glorious, auspicious. strong etc etc (Urichsotrodar-
Tamil) "Parna" means wings. implies Garudan & garuda vahanan, is lord vishnu.
5)Bhujagottama:-.The master of serpent Adishesha.
6)Hrinya nabha:-The one whose naval is in beautiful golden hue. wherein supports
Brahma the creator. the lord vishnu is the creator/supporter of Brahma.
7)Sutapaa:-"Tapas" means Creative thinking in sanskrit. so this term means one who is
with constant /creative thinking.
8)Padmanabha:-One who is residing in the heart of allhis devotees(ii)One who has the
lotus emanating from his navel (carrying Brahma) as alredy discussed in this stanza
meaning no(6)
9)Prajapati:-the lord to all. as every thing comes forth from HIM he become pati to all
his"Praja"children

Amrtyu:- No death no decay . one who’s beyond death or decay.
Sarvadrik:- the all seeing & knowing of every thing.
Simha:- The Lion . DestroyerMriganam cha mrigendro(s)ham-Bagawat gita
Sandata: - One who unites His devotees with Him ii) One who unites the beings with the
fruits of their actions.
Sandhiman: - One who is always united with His devotees
Sthira:- Firm /consistent I his relation with his devotees
Aja:-Unborn, i) Remover of obstacles, iii) One who moves in the hearts of the Devotees,
One who removes the ignorance from the hearts of His devotees One who is the root of
all sound (akshara "a")
Durmarshanah: - one cant be attacked./vanqushed
Shashtaa:- The teacher
Vishrudatma:- i) One whose exploits are praised with wonder ii) who is called by special
names. iii) One whose praise is sung in various forms iv) One whose Atma is of a special
Nature.
Surariha: - sura =devas ., Ari = enemies.,ha. Destroyer. The destroyer of enemies of devas
is Vishnu,

1) Guru- Gurutama:- Acharyan.Teacher As per our sampradhyam Lord Vishnu is da first

2)Dhama I) Goal ii) in Sanskrit it also means peak he’s da goal to be achieved, his abode
is da ultimate destination for da devotee. Also means Tejas
3) Satya: - Truth.
4) Satya parakrama:- The dynamic truth .ii) One of unfailing valor..
5) Nimisah:- The condition of eye lid closed is called as Nimisha. Therefore it means one
who’s eyes are closed towards the enemies of his devotees.
6) Animisha;- one who remains unwinking
7) Sragvee:- Srak means a garland. Therefore it means wearing the garland”Vanamalai”
8) Vachaspathi;-. The lord of speech
9) Udaradhi:- one with vast knowledge

Sahasra murthã vishvãtmã sahas-rãkshas-sahasrapath

agraNIh - agre nayati iti agraNIh - One who leads forward is agraNIh. SrI Sankara and
SrI Bhattar interpret the 'leading forward' as referring to bhagavAn's guNa of leading His
devotees to moksha.

grAmaNih - grAmam samAjam nayati iti grAmanIh - One who leads the group (of
devotees). SrI satyadevo vAsishTha points out that grAma refers to any collection, e.g.,
of several houses ( a village), of several indirya-s (the body), of several musical
instruments (sapta svarAs-trayo grAmA - in nAradIya SikshA), or the collection of all
created beings. The writer in dharma cakram interprets this nAma in the context of the
devotees who have unconditionally entrusted themselves in His care that are led by Him
to moksha.

SrImAn -
a) One who is endowed with wealth.
b) One who is full of all glories.
c) One who is radiant.
d) The Lord of MahAlakshmi
e) One who has MahAlakshmi in his vaksha-sthala.
f) One who is endowed with all the powers.

nyAyah -
a) The Just.
b) Logical arguments (tarka) and lines of contemplation (yukti) that help us in arriving at
the absolute experience.
netA -
a) One who fulfills the requests of His devotees.
b) One who manages or regulates the affairs of the cosmos.

samIraNah -
a) One who performs acts which are delectable.
b) One who controls all movements (e.g., breath) in beings.

sahasra-mUrdhA - The thousand-headed

viSvAtmA - The very soul of the Universe; the very inner Essence in all living creatures.

sahasra-akshah - The thousand-eyed

sahasra-pAt - The thousand-footed.

He who turns the wheel of worldly life or samsAra

nivRttAtmA
a) He whose nature rises above other things.
b) He whose mind is turned away from worldly desires.
c) He who is the AtmA of those who practice nivRtti dharma.
d) He who is beyond the bonds of samsAra.

samvRtah
He who remains hidden. samvRtatvAt samvRtah. The root is vRn~j AvaraNe to cover. He
remains hiddenfrom the unenlightened in whom the tamo-guNa dominates - tamsah
parastAt. It isdevotion to Him alone that can reveal Him to us.

sampra-mardanah
The dispeller (of the darkness).

ahah-samvartakah
The regulator of the day (time); The Sun. samyak ahnAm pravartanAt ahah-samvartakah
- He who regulates well thesuccession of day and night. He is the cause for the revolution
of the day andother divisions of time. The division of time into past, present, and
futureprovides the knowledge of objects as old or young. It brings about theseparation or
union of prakRti and purusha (Matter and Soul). It is also thecause of the six kinds of
transmutations of prakRti (viz. birth, growth, change,existence, decay, and final death).
vahnih
The Bearer or The Carrier; The Fire.

anilah
a) The Giver of life-breath; The Air.
b) One who needs no goading to Help His devotees.
c) The Beginningless.
d) One who has no binding, unaffected by virtue and vice.
e) One who is beyond dissolution.
f) One who is omniscient - All-Knowing.
g) Easily accessible to His devotees.
h) One who has no fixed residence.
i) One who is not supported (by Earth etc).
j) One who does not hide anywhere i.e., who is present everywhere
k) One who is always awake.

dharanI-dharah
The bearer of the Earth.

su-prasAdah
The Giver of good favors. For those who surrender to Him He confers all that is good. In
fact He goes further and confers the good to those who are His enemies as well, as in the
cases of rAvaNa, SiSupAla, duryodhana, etc., by conferring moksha on them ultimately.

prasannAtmA
He with a clear mind; Of delightful nature. He is of delightful nature because He has no
desires and no wants since He has realized all desires - avApta-sarva-kamatvAt. Or
because He is extremely merciful by nature - karuNArdra-svabhAvAt. Or He is A
prasannAtmA because His mind is neither contaminated by passion(rajas) nor inertia
(tamas).

viSva-sRt
The Creator of the Universe. viSvam sRjati yo sa viSva-sRt. He created this Universe out
of kindness unmindful of its merits and deficiencies. In SankarapATham, this nAma is
given as viSva-dhRg .

viSvabhug-vibhuh
He who pervades all things and protects them. vyApya bhunakti - pAlayati iti viSvabhug-
vibhuh. SrI Bhattarinterprets this phrase as one nAma, whereas SrI Sankara interprets it
as consisting of two nAma-s, viSva-bhuk and vibhuh.

satkartA
He who honors the good - One who adores those who are good and wise. SatkAram is
worship. SrI rAma was known as sajjanaprati pUjakah - He who worships those in return
who are good to Him.

satkRtah
He who is worshipped by the sAdhus (even by those whodeserve to be worshipped). The
word satkRta means pUjita - One who is worshipped. He is the Object of worship for
everyone.
sAdhuh
One who carries out (whatever His devotees say). One who carries out, or sAdhnoti
itisAdhuh - One who makes it possible to carry out, through various means that He has
provided for the benefit of the beings that He has created. Going as a messenger, acting
as a charioteer, etc. are examples of His carrying out His undertaking. Even though Lord
kRshNa was Himself a king like duryodhana, He did not mind doing the work of a
messenger, and did not mind being a charioteer which is like that of a servant to arjuna.
Thus, sAdhu here refers to His act of carrying out whatever He has to do to take care of
His devotees.

jahnuh
The Concealer (of His greatness from the non-devotees).This nAma is derived from the
root hA - tyAge to forsake.

nArAyaNah
The Supporter of the hosts of souls. All the previous nAma-s referred to nArAyaNa
through His other incarnations or through His many guNa-s. Now SrI vyAsa gives the
name that only refers to mahA-vishNu, and that is not used to refer to any other gods
(such as the nAma-s rudra, Siva etc., which also occur in the vishNu sahasranAma to
refer to mahAvishNu).

”Asankhyeya” means numberless,countless.
2) Aprameyatma One who cannot be known through knowledge, direct or indirect.. ”Prameya”
= “Praman vishaya”= Things known thro’ source/knowledge..
3) Visishta: his glory is da supreme (visishta)one.
4) Sishtakrit He who makes his devotees important/ well known.some others makes dis
meaning also.he is da governor & protector of gud ppl.
5) Suchi: one who is pure
6) Siddharta: who has gained all that things are to be achieved
7) siddha-sankalpah One whose wishes are always fulfilled. ”Sankalpam” means intellectual
willing&wishing.
8) siddhida: The giver(bestower) of all siddhis to his devotees
9) Siddhi-Sadhana: One who makes da trying (to achive siddhi-goal) an easy one. Compare
Arjuna, if da devotee takes one step towards me I’ll take 4 steps towards him & make it easy
for to achive da goal (paramagati)-Lord Krishna in B/ geeta.

1) Vrishahi:- One who is the devata for the vrishaha Yagna. Vrisha Also means
dharma.therefore one who shines in Dharma& makes his devotees shines in da way of
dharma.
2) Vrishabha:- One who shines his grace is vrishabha,& also shines due to his dharma.
3) Vishnu:- One who pervades evry thing is Vishnu {from the root “vis” . See also the stanza
# (1) meaning #2
4) Vrisha-parva:- “Parvam” means Ladder. V already saw da meaning of da term”Vrisha “
means Dharma. There fore this term means one who provides stair case of Dharma to reach
him.
5) Vrishodara:- ”Udara” means Belly &Vrisha means Rain also. Therefore this term means the
showering belly which showers Dharma.
6) Vardhana:- One who Nurturer & nourishes of all.
7) Vardhamana:- One who grows in to any dimensions as in vamana Avataram.
8) vivikta:- One who is alone Or unique is Vivikta;.
9) shruti-sagara:- one who is da ocean where all pious thoughts /Vedas takes da devotees

eloquent in his glory.

5) : Vasuda:- :The term”Vasu” means Wealth,therefore this term means Giver of wealth .
6) : Vasu:- : one who Himself is da wealth sought by the Yogis
& Bakhta’s
7) : Naikaroopa:- : One whose forms are infinite.
8) : Brihadrupa:- : One whose form is immense.He’s of Vishvarupa.In purusha suktam the
rishis declare him of he’s da form of all living and nonliving things.This applies to both (7&8)

10) : Prakashna:- : One who illuminates every thing.

of sun to this world..
3) : Shashabindu;;- : ” shasha “ means Rabbit & binduspot. So the term literally means a
rabbit like spot. Usually the spot in the moon look like rabbit. This term means moon.

5) : Aushadham::- :The medicine”compare” aushadham jhanwi toyam Vaidhyo Narayano Hari
