2. Operational start up
2.1 Preparing the coffee machine

Carefully remOYe the equipment and all the accessory porls from the pocking box .
.. Please not: If service is lle<es50ry you may retvrn the equipment by mail in ns
original pocking box without reservolion. Please sofe the original pocking box
and the pocking mal erial in a converotenl place.
Remove the water tank (16) and rinse itwfth cold deal' top watel'

make sure thot it clicks into ploce well when inserting .

2.2 Using your coffee machine for the first time
Pull !he power cord from !he cOfd comportmenl1141 and plug rt in.
SYtilch on !he power swilch 1131. The onloff butlon 131 Hghls up.
Press !he onIoff bunon (31.01wi1l up and !he on/off bunon 131 wiH begin 10
blink.
Alter !he calfee machine has healed up, !he onIolf bunon 13) and !he sleomlrins-
ing bunon (61 will begin 10 blink.

2.3 Setting the fineness of the coffee mill
Please nole: Adjusl!he fineness sening only when !he calfee mill is in operolion.
You coo odjusllhe degree 01 coarseness in Ihe milling 1/100:: for !he wa>f your coffee
beans have been roasled. We recommend, howeYer, !hal you the coffee mill 01
!he medium sening.

3. Preparation
Please note:
... The coffee machine was set at the locIOf)' so thol you ecoid make yOlK first cup
of coffee immedirnely. However, we recommend thol you program the most
important basic seltings according 10 your needs. Therefore, you shook! first
corry ouI the steps 01 the waler hardness and the temperature senings men-
tioned in chapter 4. Programming (starting on page 27)
... When using the coffee machine for the first fime, or if it has nol been used for
II bog fime, the first cup 01 nol have (] full aroma and should nol be
drunk.
3.1 Selecting the waler quantity
Using the woter amounloojustmenl (21 you 'on adjust the amount of water on
II continuously variable point (small cup lower left for lesswaler, large cup lower
right for more water! .

3.2 Selecting coffee strength
Depending on your toste, the strength of the coffee con be sel 01 three different levels:

3.3 BreY/ ing a cup o f coffee

Place your pre.wormed cup under the calfee outlet (9) .
.. You can adiust the height of the coffee outlet 19) so that is iust right for the
size of your cup.
Select the desired Y/<Iter quantity.
Press the 1 cup seIectioo knob (4) until the desired coffee strength is dispIcJyed. Then
release the button.
The coffee machine will nrNI stort the breYling process.
.. You may interrupt the process at any lime bV pushing any bolton.
Please note: If you lire preparing a cup of cllffee for the first time. the milling chamber
will sfill be empl'(. 1t is possible that the -'300symbol for 011 colfee beoos could blink
alter the first process and thot the colfee mochine wiU not make any coffee. In
this case. just push the selection knob 14) once more. to repeal the breYling process.

Just before the colfee cup is filled to the desired amount. tum the waler amounl
adjuslmeot knob 121 slowly to the left until the machine stops brewing.

3.4 BreY/ing two cups of coffee
Two millings ore automatically done one after onother for 2 cups operll1ion.

Select the desired coffee strength and WIIter quantity for one cup.
Press the 2 cups selection button IS) the desired coffee strength is display. Then
release the button.

3.5 BreY/ing with pre-ground coffee
Rrsl sel the water omount adjustment knob 121 fill" the amount of w<J!er desired for
one cup of colfee.
Open the coYer 10 the well for coffee grounds 1171. The symbol " begins to blink.
RII one level spoonful of ground coffee using the me<JSUring spoon fOf groond cof
fee 1191 and dose the cover. The symbol " will up constantly.

Please note: The groond coffee well is not fOf storage. Therefore yoo should never
place more than one portion in the well and always use fresh or YClcuum-packed

3.6 Drawing hot water

Tum the sleomlhot water dial m 10 the right.
When your cup is filled with the desired amount of water tum the diolill bock to o.

3.7 Drawing steam and milk foam

Press the steam/rinsing bunon (61. The bunon (61 begins 10 blink.
As soon os the system is ready. the sleam/rinsing bunon 161 wiH lighl up constantly.
Insert the ;etI8) into the cup with the liquid 10 be heated.
Tum the sleamlhot water dial m 10 the right. Please note: Water will first come out
and then steom.
By turning bock the dial m to O. the process is stopped.
Press the steomlrinsing bunon 16) and the collee moc: hine will be reset for normal
operation.
.... You can mal<.e steam for up 10 twa minutes. The machine will then tum off
outomaficolly. By turning the knob III bock and forth. you can confinue the
process.
.... Ca ullon: Very hat sleam ond donger of bums! Only tooch the;el on the block
plastic part!
.... Dried residue on the iet alter maldng milk foam is difficuh to remove. You
should therefore clean it immediately alter ~ has cooled off!
4. Programming

4.1 Water hardness
Depending on the hardness ollhe waler in yOlK region your coffee machine musl be
de<:akified sooner or later. So that the system can ShaYl VI'hen decalcification is nec-
essary, you musl fi rst enter the correctYl<ller hardness selling before using the coffee
machine for the first

Inserllhe strip inlo the waler brielly and shake excess waler off.
After about one minute. vou con read the result from the red dots.

above.
Press the sleam bu!!on 16) until the number of buttons cOllespooding 10 yourwaler
hardness light up.
Press the stand by button (3) lor confirmaTion.
To confirm your setting the appropriate buttons up lwice in succession.
Progromming is and the system is in coffee-ready mode ogain.

4.2 Temperature
You can change the desired temperaTure althe brewed calfee:

Using the onIalf buTt on 13) switch your calfee machine OFF Istand-by model.
Press the I-cup button (4) lor abouT 4 sec.
The buTtons lor the current temperaTure setting lighT up as mentioned obo'<e.

For confirmaTion press the standby-butTon 131.
To confirm your seTting. the appropriate butlons light up TIllite in succession.
Programming is completed and the system is in calfee-ready mode again.
4.3 Standby time

This function allows you To pragrom when the calfee mochine should go to standby
mode oher!he kisT use. The following settings are possible:
1 hr. " sTand-by button. lights up
3 hrs. " <stond by-. .. l-<up buTton light up
5 hrs. " <stand-by-. .. l-<up .. 2--cups butlons light up
The loctory seTting is 3 hrs.
Using the onIolf buTt on 13) switch your calfee machine OFF Istand-by mode).
Press the 2-<ups button (51 lor about 4 secands.
The buTtons far the current operating time selling light up.
By pressing the 2--cup buTton (51. the machine changes to another operaTing Time.
For confirmaTion press the stondby buTton 131.
To confirm your seTting. the appropriate butTons light up TIllite in succession.
Programming is completed and the system is in colfee reody mode again.
5. Maintenance and care
5.1 Filter
Through II deaJer yoo can obtain II special fiher for the water lank as II s.pecicl acces-
sory. If this fiher is COITectIy used. the decolalying intervals for your machine will be
lengthened.
.. After filting the filter. please set the water hardness 10 step llsee 4.1) . The
decalcifying indication will then only appear alter II waler consumpfioo of
ca. 120 I.

Drain the waler look 06) DOd SCreH!he fiher inlo the mounting (21) using the
enclosed mounting aid )20).
Allhe dale ring )months) at the lop end of !he fitter cartridge, set the insklllotkln and
replacement dole.
FiH the tonk with fresh water and reinserllhe kml<. in the machine.
The new fiher musl be rinsed before first use: hold (] container under the steom/hol
water nozzle 18) and tum the rolory knob (7J dockw'ise. The system is then rinsed.
Redose the rotary knob [7) ofIer dl'<J'Ning off ca. 2-2.5 dl alwater.

If yeo should no longer wish 10 use the fiher, please do nollorgel10 sel the appropli-

5.2 Cleaning program
If the coffee machine needs 10 be cleaned, the \l symbol appears.

recommend thai you run the cleaning program as soon as possible.

5.3 Decalcifying

If your coffee machine must be decokilied, the / symbol will oppears.
o You can confinue to breil coffee Of draw hotwoter and steam. However, we recom-
mend thot yeo run the decokifying progrom as soon as possible.
o The machine must be decokified even if yeo ore using 0 (see chapter 5.1) .
Be sure to remove the filter before execurt ng the decokifying process.
Caution: - You may not interrupt the decalcifying program.
- Never use vinegar Of acidic liquids fOf decokilying your coffee
machine; only use Durgal or 0 simillJ( product.
- Tlvoughoo the process the / symbol is blinking.

5.4 Generol cleaning

The waler lank should be rinsed oul daily lind with fresh. cool waler.

Diseogoge the cenlrol uni1 by pressing the red switch and fuming the handle 10
the left lIS far as the slop (Abb 1). The On/Off button 13) and the s1eom button (6) blink.

Withdraw the central u n ~ carefully "om the housing by the handle .
CIeon the central u n ~ under running water. Thoroughly rinse oulthe mining wotKs
and the mesh screen. Afterwords oHow the central unit to dry out .
Push the central unil carefully bock into the housing and engage it by pressing the
red switch lever and turning the hand Ie 10 the righl as for os the stop.
Only the onlaf! button (3) lights up.
Replace the cover and octoote the OnIOf! bu!1on (31. The appliance is now bock in
normal operating mode.
