As soon as they organized their ranks, the SKNF hit the ground running and has since conducted numerous activities and attended to several functions in connection with their mandate, duties and responsibilities. On January 29 to 30, the SK NEB met for the first time and addressed organizational and administrative concerns such as the hiring of the members of the Secretariat. Also, preparations for its initial activities as well as the region-wide assemblies were undertaken. On February 16, the SKNF was invited to the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources hearing on the proposed declaration of Arbor Day. Asec. Gabriel Del Rosario, SKNF President, along with other NEB officers, presented a statement of support for the measure where the Sangguniang Kabataan will be made a member of the Arbor Day Celebration Committee in every local government unit. In response to the need to revise current leadership training modules being used by the SKNF to orient and educate the youth leaders about their duties and responsibilities, the NEB approved a new Integrated Sangguniang Kabataan Organizational, Leadership and Reorientation Basic Orientation Seminar (ISKOLAR-BOS) module which was recommended by an Inter-Agency Technical Working Committee composed of SKNF Technical Staff, NYC, DILGNational Barangay Operations Office (DILG-NBOO), Local Government Academy (LGA), and Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP). The module is expected to keep up with the changing times and serve as an interactive learning concept that is more responsive to the needs of the youth today. It was also inevitable that the present leadership of the SK NEB confronted the proposal to abolish the Sangguniang Kabataan as put forward by several members of the House of Representatives. In a congressional hearing called for by the House Committee on Local Government in March this year, Asec. Del Rosario once again represented the SKNF and strongly urged the members of the Committee to consider introducing reforms in the present set up of the Sangguniang Kabataan, instead of abolishing the youth organization completely.

SK NEB officials have since been conducting consultative meetings with fellow SKs to rally their strong support for SK Reform bills pending in both the Senate and Congress. The 1st SK Joint Regional Assembly for Luzon was held on March 12 to 14 in SBMA in Olongapo City. This first assembly of the elected youth leaders coming from the Luzon region was attended by 1,579 SKs. The honorable Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos, Jr., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, was the Guest of Honor and gave an inspirational message on the role of youth leaders in community development. The Assembly also served as a venue for the SKs to craft Regional Action Plans that will be appropriate and relevant to the needs of the youth coming from their respective localities. Last March also, Mr. Kentaro Harada, World President of the Junior Chambers International, more popularly known as the Jaycees, visited the National Youth Commission where he also paid a courtesy call on Asec. Del Rosario. Upon the initiative undertaken by SK NEB Secretary General Maemae Gonzales, the SKNF also entered into an agreement with the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) and Kulturang Lahi Inuuna Ko (KLIK) Project to undertake programs and activities that will encourage the development of musical talents and inclinations of Young Filipinos. Other SKNF projects that are currently in the pipeline are: the proposed rehabilitation of SK Academy in Quezon City, creation of the Barangay Book, the updating of member database and creation of a National ID system, creation and maintenance of website and other social network accounts, publication of its own newsletter, information campaign on emerging issues such as the SK Reform bills and Reproductive Health Bill, the establishment of a Scholarship Program, and the conduct of outreach program in rural areas.
