The angelic voices of the youth choir led by Lori Vidrine, opened the service.
St. Genevieve's pastor, the Rev. Roel Lungay was joined by Rev. William
O'Donnell, the pastor from Sacred Heart who brought our parish together as a
church after the storm. Deacons George Menges, Dan Haggerty and Paul
Mumme also assisted in the celebration of the Mass.

The heat was excessive and one person had to be taken to the hospital. The
ice cream and pizza social, originally scheduled to follow the Mass, was
canceled because of the heat.

While there is much to be done in the community and individual lives, Father
Roel gave thanks for the parishioners who came together and remained a
church family.

Many Bayou Liberty residents had the pleasure of learning sports under the
capable tutelage of coach Ed McDermott. He was a coach at Slidell High
School from 1948-1958.

He was a very humble man who loved his students, and his profession. He
was never more at ease than when discussing football, and he never met a
stranger. When "Coach," as he was affectionately known, passed away in FROM OUR ADVERTISERS
2005, the McDermott family created the Coach Ed McDermott Scholarship >>
fund at Slidell High School in his honor. >>

Through his love of sports, Coach showed many students how their sports
participation could result in a college education. This fund continues Coach's

legacy. The scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors who have
participated in at least two varsity sports.

Contributions to the scholarship fund can be mailed to The Coach Ed

McDermott Scholarship Fund in care of Billy Percy, Slidell High School, One
Tiger Drive, Slidell, LA 70458. For information, contact Coach's daughter Sandi
Haynes at (904) 742-3210 or (904) 829-3210.
