Archangel Gabriel is best known as the one who delivered the good new to Mary, mother of Jesus. He is considered the God's messenger. In art, Gabriel is shown with a trumpet. Muslims believed it was Gabriel who escorted Mohammad into heaven. Many Christians believe that Gabriel's horn will announce the end of time. Archangel Raphael, considered a mighty healer, is believed to have healed the earth after fallen angels defiled it. Raphael appears in the Book of Tobit, canonical to Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christians. According to that reference, he both cured Tobit's blindness, and freed his daughter-in-law from Asmodeus. Archangel Uriel is believed to be the angel of repentence or the angel of salvation. He's sometimes pictured as a cherub, and sometimes as an adult holding a large copper disc, with ancient symbols on it. Uriel has also been referred to as the great Archangel of the earth. Archangel Remiel is known as the angel of hope. His work is said to be twofold. He watches over the souls of people who are to be resurrected and carries the faithful to heaven, and he also is said to give people visions. Remiel is sometimes confused with fallen angel Azazel, also known as Rameel.

Archangel Raguel makes sure everything in angel hierarchy runs smoothly. He rules fairness, justness, and harmony. He's often appealed to for help in resolving conflict. Raguel keeps all the angels in line, and watches them to assure they are on their best behavior. Archangel Zerachiel is the angel ruling mercy and forgiveness. He keeps watch over children, especially those with sinful parents. People ask Zerachiel for guidance when having trouble with tolerance and forgiveness. He is the main angel of the sun. There you have it-the seven Archangels. Most of them are known by half a dozen other names, and have different attributes in different cultures. In fact, some belief Lucifer to have been one of the seven before he fell from grace. Archangels are fascinating entities. They appear in works of art, literature, and even film.
