Computer Control of Power Systems Video course

COURSE OUTLINE Present day power systems have grown in size and complexity with the commissioning of large power stations, expansion of EHV AC and HVDC transmission networks and introduction of FACTS devices for transfer of bulk power to the load centers, and to facilitate import/export of power among interconnected systems. With growing demand of electricity for various applications, power utilities are in the process of extensive expansions and improvement of distribution systems. The planning, design, and operation of these systems require various types of detailed analysis. Presently, most of the power system studies are carried out using computer software tools. The objective of the course is to introduce some of the power system operational problems, modeling of power system components, computational algorithms, developing abilities for practical system studies and further research. Course Contents The course is designed with emphasis on current practices and applications. T h e topics broadly covered are power flow and short circuit analysis of transmission and distribution systems, energy management functions (EMS) s u c h as state estimation, security analysis, optimal power flow, active and reactive power dispatch, static voltage stability.
