STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“Education is not a destination but a journey. It is a journey, which

never stops as long as there is breath in one’s body. It is one of the
constants in life. It is a journey, which is full of experience,
assimilation and absorbing.”

This realization firmed my decision of pursuing my higher education at a

reputed US university as experiential and experimental learning is
encouraged and actively fostered at American institutions of higher learning
and it is unparalleled.

I , Nitin Grover, am a last year student in Department of Information

Technology at Career Institute of Technology and Management, Faridabad,
India, have chosen Computer Science for my MS from The University of
Houston and the reason is not far to seek. It all began while I was pursuing
my Bachelors. While being introduced to myriad subjects from EE and
Computer Science, varying from basic concepts of Operating systems to
Distributed Systems, Communication Networks and Advanced Concepts of
DBMS , Computer organization, DSP, Procedural Language to Object Oriented
Programming System .The subjects like Microprocessor & Interfacing and
Digital Electronics helped in building my hardware intellect. I was struck by
the inherent potential and possibilities in the arena. The field of Computer
Science interests me because of its formal and rigorous mathematical nature
and its wide-ranging applications. Study at an excellent campus is imperative
if one is to develop a solid foundation.

The reason I have waited for so long and completed my four years of
undergraduate studies in India is because I wanted to gain some age and
maturity before venturing on my journey of discovery overseas. As Indian
education system is also noteworthy for its emphasis on fundamental
grounding in the subjects, I wanted to get my concepts abundantly clear
before endeavoring to experiment and explore. At this point, I find myself
ideally placed to derive the maximum learning out of my MS. Additionally, I
am also looking forward to develop various facets of my persona and to gain
insightful enlightenment in an international environment.

Academics have always been my strong hold. My inquisitive nature and a

desire to ingrain the fundamental principles as well as techniques of any
subject of study have enabled me to achieve a good academic record. More
importantly, the excellent course structure coupled with high academic
standard at CITM has given a sound and broad conceptual basis and further
stimulated my interest in scientific pursuit.

Though Computer science in its totality excites my interest, in the sophomore

year of my Bachelors degree, I have narrowed down my interests to
concentrate on OOPS, Operating Systems and Multimedia Technologies.
My abilities are reflected in the projects I undertook.The minor project which
I did on “Packet Tracking System of a Courier Company” was an example of
my skills in LINUX operating system. My final year project on e-commerce is
based on ASP .NET deals with online shopping.

Because of my good academic and technical standing I was able to get a job
offer from Larsen & Toubro InfoTech Ltd., a premier IT company in India. But
at present I want to continue my studies towards MS.

The richness of your country stems from the amalgamation of various

cultures across the globe, and your university is an example of that. I believe
in my own small way I will succeed in enriching the vast collage of your
institution. I am confident that ,my extrovert nature, outgoing persona and
inquisitive and enquiring mind will be appreciated by my peers and
professors alike and make the MS experience a truly memorable and unique
life experience for me.

I am sure I will succeed in these endeavors and can bring laurels to my alma
mater and attain a position of eminence and acclaim in my field. This hope
guides me as I apply for the next stopover in my journey of learning, a
stopover which is a destination and a new beginning in itself.
