ADVISERS MESSAGE
02
Dear Residents,
First, let me thank everyone for your strong support that has made it possible for Bukit Batok East (BBE) to organise so many programmes and activities to meet your needs. My grassroots leaders and I continue to welcome any ideas and suggestions that you may have to make BBE a more vibrant, connected and active community. In my house visits, I had met many residents who are very appreciative of the work that we do and have also made many constructive and useful suggestions on how to further improve life in BBE. I welcome all these suggestions and I look forward to even more engagements with our residents. I had held one Town Hall meeting with residents at the Toh Guan area, and I intend to hold more such meetings to engage residents. Residents can also meet me at my Meet the People Sessions which are held six times a month; four every Monday at block 241 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 and two for the first two Fridays at Block 208 Jurong East. Residents are also free to approach me at any of the events that I attend in your areas, as well as email to me directly at our Jurong GRC website. I also welcome views from you when I do my weekly house visits. I take your feedback seriously. For example, many residents living at blocks 288 - 289A-G Bukit Batok St 25 (Nature View estate) asked for additional bus service number 106 because this service is very crowded during the peak morning hours. I took this matter up with the LTA and the SMRT and I am happy to inform you that the SMRT has agreed to add an additional bus service 106 sometime in October this year to cater to the increased demand due to the opening of the WCEGA centre. Residents living near that area also complained that it is difficult to cross the road because of the very heavy traffic. After my representation, the LTA has agreed and has started work on building a signalised pedestrian crossing. Residents living near the MRT tracks had also asked for measures to minimise the noise originating from the railway tracks. The LTA is currently doing a nation-wide study and they have agreed to include the areas in Toh Guan affected by the noise as part of their study. I will continue to work hard with my grassroots leaders to look at ways to improve BBE. We will continue to take care of the needy in our constituency. Needy residents can get help from the Comcare Fund. In addition, every year, we raise thousands of dollars to provide bursaries, subsidised tuition, ang pows for the elderly, food packs, book vouchers and other help for our residents. We will also focus on bonding the community together to create a strong BBE Family. I wish all our Muslim residents Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and all our Hindu residents Happy Deepavali. Mdm Halimah Yacob Adviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations Minister of State, MCYS MP for Jurong GRC

28 youths from the Community Sports Club went on a trekking excursion to Bukit Timah Hill. It was a great challenge and experience for the participants. With strong bonding and encouragement, the group completed the trek with lots of memories.
BBE residents joined Mdm Halimah Yacob and grassroots leaders at the Bukit Timah railway station to take a stroll down the railway tracks. Catching glimpse of nature and history, the participants strolled down the 3km tracks towards Railway Mall.
Brisk walk and Qigong are regularly conducted for the residents in Toh Guan. Around 200 residents came together to celebrate Qigong 13th Annual Celebration at Toh Guan Park and everybody enjoyed a great workout.

We look forward to our CLCs promoting greater volunteerism in the community, connecting people to forge multi-racial harmony and social cohesion, and inculcating a sense of belonging among Singaporeans!
35 grassroots leaders and friends embarked on a 3-days 2-nights trip to Pulau Besar, Malaysia. Besides having team-building activities, they enjoyed snorkelling and trekking in its beautiful nature.

SourSop
Black Fungus
) 1 26.
The Sour Sop was reported to possess strong anti-cancer effects. Although it is effective for a number of medical conditions, its anti-tumour effect is of most interest. The Sour Sop tree is called graviola in Brazil, guanabana in Spanish and has the uninspiring name "sour sop" in English. The fruit is very large and the sub-acid sweet white pulp is eaten out of hand or, more commonly, used to make fruit drinks, sherbets and such. Besides being a cancer remedy, graviola is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for both bacterial and fungal infections, is effective against internal parasites and worms, lowers high blood pressure and is used for depression, stress and nervous disorders. The sour sop is said to: * Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does not cause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss * Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections * Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment * Boost your energy and improve your outlook on life * What's more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from the Graviola tree selectively hunts down and kills only cancer cells. It does not harm healthy cells Various parts of the Graviola tree, including the bark, leaves, roots, fruit and fruit-seeds, have been used for centuries by medicine men and native Indians in South America to treat heart disease, asthma, liver problems and arthritis. Going on very little documented scientific evidence, a company poured money and resources into testing the tree's anti-cancerous properties-and were shocked by the results. Graviola proved itself to be a cancer-killing dynamo. .... A study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a recent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea stated that one chemical in Graviola was found to selectively kill colon cancer cells at "10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug) Adriamycin." A study at Purdue University recently found that leaves from the Graviola tree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were especially effective against prostate, pancreatic and lung cancers.
