March 7th will go down in Philippine music history . . .

Mar 11, 2009

Multi-colored confetti paper could still be seen drifting through the air of Manila Bay even hours after the BIG show had ended. These small remnants were the last reminders of the historical concert that had just transpired.

March 7th will go down in Philippine music history as THE pioneer OPM band delivered their FINAL SET at the Mall of Asia concert grounds. Over 100,000 E-Head obsessed fanatics showed up for the historical event. Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala, and Raimund Marasigan showed the world, one last time; why theyre name and movement will forever go down in infamy.

I got to the concert grounds around 5pm. To my surprise, there were already thousands of fans waiting for the show to begin. By the time 8pm rolled around, the venue was PACKED! Hindi ako makapaniwala. There were more people at this event then there were at the Chris Brown and Rihanna concert talaga! I knew the Eraserheads revolutionized the OPM genre in the Philippine music scene during the 90s, but I had no idea how strong their star power still shined today. After experiencing the concert last Saturday, I know now, the Eraser heads are more than just a band, they are a PHENOMENON!!! The concert kicked off with VJ Kat, Sib, Andi, and Anne Curtis, introducing the event. All four did a great job!!!

Before the band took the stage, the audience was treated to a video montage of the Eraserheads throughout the years. It was overwhelming for many people to watch the introduction video. I saw some fans crying as the nostalgic images streamed across the 100 foot stage monitors. As the silhouettes of the band members could be seen taking the stage, a roar of excitement was ignited by the audience at the front. Their synergetic enthusiasm immediately swept through the entire concert grounds. Before long, everyone was screaming with excitement.

The band performed hits from many of their classic albums, Ultraelectromagneticpop!, Circus, Sticker Happy, Cutterpillow, and Carbon Stereoxide. During the first set, Marcus Adoro and Raimund Marasigan each took center stage to perform solo sets to the crowds delight. After the first set, my home girl and I immediately made our way to the VIP tent! Thanks to Rox, Jasper and Perri for hooking us up!!! Not only was the air-conditioned dome a nice treat, but the food was AMAZING. Fish and Co., Italianis and Fridays catered the event. The food was super sarap!! Ayoko pang umalis HAHA

The band brought out special guest Jazz Nicholas, of the Itchyworms, during the second set. The last half of the concert hit an emotional chord for many fans. Ely Buendia lit his famous piano on fire, fireworks lit up the night sky during "Huling El Bimbo", and a special tribute was made to the God Father of Filipino hip hop, Francis Magalona. Magalona was intended to perform at the concert but died just two days prior.

In order to please the audiences chanting request, the band stood together and locked arms for a semi-group hug. As thousands of fans exited the concert grounds, the band took the stage ONE MORE TIME for a three-song encore performance.

It was a great night!!!!! I got to meet Marcus Adoro and Raimund Marasigan at the 7 Pecados after party. Both guys were really cool.
Special shout out to Anne and Bebe!
