RECOGNITION CORNER Never too young to be a philanthropist!

There are many ways your child can play a part in finding a cure for diabetes. Zoe; who has type 1 diabetes and her twin sister Sarah, raised over $600 by asking friends and relatives to make a donation to JDRF rather than give them birthday gifts.

A DAY TO REMEMBER Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 - Rogers Centre

On August 24th, 125 children and their parents (new and veteran JDRF families) took part in the Toronto Blue Jays training staff and players PLAY Campaign. The PLAY campaign was designed to encourage youth to be active, eat right and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Special guest Brandon Morrow, starting pitcher for the Blue Jays, was on hand to meet and greet the families. Brandon was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 18 years of age, and did not let that stand in his way of becoming a professional baseball player. He took the time to speak to the kids and parents about his diabetes care on and off the field. Eric Thames, outfielder for the Blue Jays, was also on hand to lend his expertise to the young players. Autographs were signed and lots of pictures were taken. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children with type 1 diabetes to meet a type 1 hero. Keep checking your inbox for information on future JDRF events.

Charmz4charity has developed a school program that brings the concept of philanthropy to a childs level. The school kit provides everything the school needs to make 200-250 bracelets. Once the bracelets are made, the children devise an advertising strategy to market and sell the bracelets. All sale proceeds are donated to JDRF. For more information: www.charmz4charity.org .
