(Why med ordered) Contraindications/warnings/interactions Dilates both arteries and veins by blocking post synaptic Hypersensitivity alpha 1 adrenergic receptors. Decreases contractions in smooth muscle of prostatic capsule. Common side effects Dizziness, headache, weakness, drowsiness, mental depression syncope, first-dose orthostatic hypotension, palpitations Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC or herbal Lab value alterations caused by medicine medicines (ask patient specifically) May cause elevated serum sodium levels. Additive hypotension with acute ingestion of alcohol, other antihypertensives or nitrates. Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication Continue taking medicine even when feeling well. Take at the same time every day. Do not double doses. Follow diet and exercise routine. Change positions slowly, may cause dizziness. Nursing Process- Assessment Assessment Evaluation (Pre-administration assessment) Why would you hold or not give this Check after giving Monitor I & O and daily weights, assess for med?
