OFFSET ILLUMINATION CONTROL: The control knob for the illuminated reticle on the 5-20x50 is off-set at a 45-degree angle to allow easy adjustments without blocking the view of the turrets, magnification setting or parallax adjustment. The control also features an "OFF" position between each intensity level so the reticle can be turned off with a single click. MAGVIEW SYSTEM: A patent-pending fiber optic magnification indicator, combined with raised rear-facing magnification references on the zoom dial, provides fast visual confirmation of magnification from the shooting position in low light conditions.
RZR ZERO STOP MECHANISM:

Vortexs patent-pending RZR (Rapid Zero Return) Zero Stop mechanism on the 5-20x50 prevents the turret from dialing below sight-in range for a fast, precise return to zero after temporary elevation correction. Once set during sight-in, the turret can be quickly spun and stopped at the zero setting without counting clicks. Using a patent-pending rotational blocking steel mechanism, the RZR is more reliable and accurate than all other systems that block the downward movement of the turret.

This program is available to everyone, and enables shooters to input and store information about personal rifle loads and shooting conditions which then permits customized drop charts to be generated, viewed and printed.These drop charts supply basic vital information about bullet drop at long distances along with bullet wind drift information.This information can be used for such things as sighting in a load and applying the proper bullet drops and wind corrections while hunting or target shooting. The LRBC can also be used as an instructional aid while not in the field, allowing shooters to experiment with their favorite loads on-line and see how they are affected by changing environmental conditions such as temperatures, altitudes, pressures, slopes and winds. For example, use the LRBC before going on a once in a lifetime western mountains hunt to see how the conditions there will affect the flight of your bullet compared to your sea level home. There are many other helpful applications for the LRBC, including fine-tuning the popular Vortex Dead Hold BDC reticle and generating the ballistic numbers required to build customized TMT elevation turret caps for select Vortex riflescopes.

HOW TO RANGE WITH MRAD AND MOA RETICLES

Using simple formulas, both MOA and mrad hash marked reticles can be used to estimate distances.This is a useful skill to know, and provides a good back-up should your laser rangefinder fail or lose battery power. To range with a reticle formula, you can use either the vertical or horizontal scale. Place the reticle on a target of known width or height and read the number of mrads or MOAs spanned. You will obtain maximum accuracy in ranging by calculating as exact a measurement as possible, down to fractions of an mrad or MOA. Accurate measuring will depend on a very steady hold. The rifle should be solidly braced using a rest, bipod or sling when measuring the size of the target or nearby object. Once you have an accurate reading, use a formula to calculate the distance.

mrad unit of arc measurements are based on the radian. A radian is the angle subtended at the center of a circle by an arc that is equal in length to the radius of the circle.There are 6.283 radians in a circle and 1000 milliradians in a radian for a total of 6283 milliradians (mrads) in a circle. An mrad will subtend 3.6 inches at a distance of 100 yards. Most riflescopes using mrad adjustments will use 1/10 mrad clicks which subtend .36 inches at 100 yards.
MOA
MOA unit of arc measurements are based on degrees and minutes. There are 360 degrees in a circle and 60 minutes in a degree for a total of 21,600 minutes in a circle. A minute of angle will subtend 1.05 inches at a distance of 100 yards. Most riflescopes using MOA adjustments will use 1/4-minute clicks which subtend .26 inches at 100 yards.
Both minute-of-angle (MOA) and milliradian (mrad) unit of arc scales are effective when using subtension measurements for ranging and bullet trajectory drop compensation in riflescope reticles.
