When the customer comes first, the customer will last.

Starting off as a small specialist systems engineering company packaging small power-plants at its inception, LOTUS established itself as a total turnkey solutions provider by the late 1980s. It quickly gained recognition for packaging acoustic enclosures and exhaust silencers for standby diesel generator applications for various customer sites across the country. Technology that was developed by a need for addressing the diesel generator noise problem, soon found spin off benefits in the design of noise control solutions for a host of different client requirements for their noise problems. Needless to say, this competence in providing noise control solutions, was completely customer driven and found application in a variety of applications over the years. For nearly 30 years now, LOTUS has revelled in delighting clients with bespoke solutions for their: Industrial and Environmental Noise problems, Mechanical / HVAC system Noise Control, and Architectural Acoustics requirements.

Once a problem has been identified by a client, LOTUS begins with a site survey and undertakes a thorough analysis of the noise problem encountered, leading to an appropriate definition of the problem. Thereafter, suitable mitigation strategies are worked out and later optimized with an eye on all attributes involving the client wish list as

Our founder and Chairman, Mr Umesh Rao, is a distinguished engineer with a long list of pioneering efforts. An alumnus from the renowned Indian Institute of Science, India and the University of Minnesota, US from where he obtained a Masters degree specialising in machine design with minors in heat transfer and turbo machinery, his work experience is spread over four decades with 15 years in the US, including senior positions such as Chief Engineer, Pratt and Whitney Power Systems (A Division of United Technologies) and later during the early 1980s in being contracted for his expertise as a Principal Consultant, Energy Services Inc., CT, USA. In 1983 he founded Lotus Energy Systems, specializing in the design and manufacture of noise attenuated packaged power-plants and enclosures for industrial machinery. He is an elected full Member of the prestigious Institute of Noise Control Engineers (INCE), USA - one of only three Indians holding this honour. His expertise and contribution to the field has recently been lauded by INCE, with the LOTUS submittal being shortlisted amongst six entries, in a worldwide competition for the coveted Excellence in Noise Control Engineering award.

In the year 1994, in recognition of Mr. Umesh Raos pioneering efforts in this field, Lotus was approached and commissioned in June 1994 by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) www.cpcb.nic.in an organization under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India, to undertake a project entitled Evolving noise control methods/systems for Diesel Generator Sets up to 1000KVA. Lotus undertook this project with the active involvement and support of Dr. M. L. Munjal of the IISc as a consultant. This study and the report submitted culminated in the guidelines for generator noise control being published by the CPCB, for dissemination to all generator manufacturers. It formed the basis of the hallmark legislation that followed shortly thereafter. Each project is handled by a dedicated project supervisor and a team of well trained technicians. They are supported by the engineering and manufacturing teams who work seamlessly in tandem for meeting the project specification. Quality control is handled by an in-house senior ISO certified Quality Manager. Testing and field monitoring is handled by qualified engineering staff trained to conduct these trials using state of the art equipment such as instrumentation from Bruel and Kjaer [B&K] the world leader in NVH measuring equipment.

Most of them perform critical acoustical functions, making our design work essential to their effectiveness in meeting user expectations.

We as a company are also strongly committed to causes that help improve the quality of life for our fellow citizens. We are passionately

involved as a company with assisting NGOs and Schools for the underprivileged, with supplementing the nutritional requirements of
children aged 3 9 years and have been providing a nutritional supplement to over 1300 children in this category for over 12 years now. Our efforts in this regard were duly appreciated with our being awarded the Rotary Corporate Citizenship award in the small and medium companies segment for these efforts a few years ago. Our 2 acre facility in Chikkaballapur is designed to provide a significant amount of the lighting required from natural sunlight. Ventilation at this facility is also based on natural convection streams. The roof run off of the 45000 sft built up area is used effectively to harvest nearly 1,50,000 liters of rainwater more than adequate to take care of the gardening requirements.
