Uses Tack Coat A very light spray application of diluted asphalt emulsion. It is used to create a bond between an asphalt overlay being placed and the existing surface. A tack coat is recommended for all overlays. The function of tack coat is to promote adhesion between two layers of asphalt. Tack coating is an important stage in road surfacing and is often required by highway specification. After spraying the tack coat, time must be allowed before the overlay is placed for the complete breaking of the diluted emulsion (brown or black color). Traffic should be kept off the tacked area Single and Multiple Surface Treatment The surface treatment is application of asphalt emulsion and aggregate to produce a pavement with stone thickness and enough asphalt to hold the aggregate in place. The surface treatment is applied to resist the abrasive forces of the traffic Sand Seal A spray application of asphalt emulsion followed with a light covering of fine aggregate, such as clean sand or screening. The sand seal will help prevent loss of material from the old surface by traffic abrasion, develop a skid-resistant texture, and prevent the intrusion of moisture and air that may pass into the crack of pavement
Application Temperature Tack Coat and Surface treatment 50-85oC (125-185oF) Application Rate Tack Coat 0.1-0.3 L/Sq.m., 0.2-0.6 L/Sq.m.(when diluted with water 1:1) Surface treatment depending on the size of aggregate by checking the standard of surface treatment Application Method By spraying (distributor) Storage and Handling Condition Emulsions are stored between 10oC and 60oC, depending on the temperature required for application. At tank storage, a light agitation is performed to avoid settlement. At drum storage it is recommended to roll the drums before use to ensure homogeneity
