EMPOWERED TO EXPAND – PART 3 YOUNG ADULT CELLS JULY 2006

THE POWER OF SERVICE Member’s Notes

I. Introduction

We often hear stories of how God called certain people and empowered Understanding, Attitude

What do you think are some of the “pre-requisites” in order for 1. Understand the

calls people.
2. Know 3 principles in
testing prophecies.
3. Desire to encounter God’s
calling for your life.
The Book of Acts 13:1-4 provides us with a framework of how that
encounter takes place. Four areas are identified in order for us to be set
apart for God’s use:
1.) Context;
2.) Call;
3.) Confirmation and

How did the church know that they are sending the right persons?

Likewise, God’s call and direction can be seen in the ways in which we
are already serving in church. Encourage one another by affirming the
area of service that each of you has been faithful in serving in the

church.
Are there some areas in the ministry in which you could help? Could it
be an affirmation of your calling to serve in that area?

IV. Confirmation by the Prophetic Word

This calling is confirmed by others as we worship together.

God does not bring direction by a prophetic word but gives confirmation
of what He has already called us to do.

The prophetic word is not coming to give direction but is coming to give
confirmation. Do you agree with this statement?

Discussion:
Share what are the ways God speaks to us. If possible, share your
experiences.

How do we test a prophecy?

V. Commission Of the Holy Spirit

After they confirmed God’s plan, they laid hands on Saul and Barnabas
and sent them forth by the Holy Spirit.

Have you ever gone on a trip whereby there is no planned itinerary?

Worse still, you do not even know where you are going? How do you
think Paul and Barnabas must have felt when they were sent forth by
the Holy Spirit?

Why do you think Paul and Barnabas were willing to make the trip?

Many of our lives are so planned and so structured that there is no

room for God to work. What are some of the things we must do in order
to encounter God?

VI. Conclusion

1.) Share with the group which area you desire to serve in the Church.

2.) Share how you need to prepare yourself to serve God in that area.

3.) Pray for one another by laying on of hands for empowerment

and boldness.
