Agro Industry
 Agro industry is the industry which
occupies the occupation of 65-70%
residents of Gujarat.
 The Agro industries affect the economy of
the state of Gujarat greatly.
 Agro industry includes high-tech
agriculture

processed kaolin, barites, etc.

The important minerals of the state


are Bauxite, Manganese ore,
Limestone and Lignite
It all started in December 1946 with a group of farmers keen to
free themselves from intermediaries, gain access to markets and
thereby ensure maximum returns for their efforts. Gradually, this
lead to the formation of the AMUL factory at Anand

Currently , AMUL is India's largest food products marketing


organization. It is a state level apex body of milk cooperatives in
Gujarat which aims to provide remunerative returns to the
farmers and also serve the interest of consumers by providing
quality products which are good value for money.
Gujarat, the ‘Jewel of the West,’ is a tourist destination
that offers something for every visitor.

A journey through Gujarat unfolds a religious, cultural


and historical panorama. The state with the longest coast
line (1290km) in the country is renowned for its beaches,
holy temples, historic capitals replete with immense
architectural assets, wildlife sanctuaries and hill resorts.
Reasons for the large scale development of tourism industry in
Gujarat are :

1) The state has many holy places & pilgrimage centres like
Somnath, Dwarkadheesh temple, Akshardham temple,
Ambajee,Girnar,Palitana etc.

2) Presence of sanctuaries like Gir-the home of Asiatic lions

& the great Rann of Kachch the home of wild asses.

3) Development of beaches at Mandvi,Chorwad,Ahmedpur etc.


Chemical Industry occupies an important place in the state’s
economy. The Chemical Industry produces a wide spectrum of
products, which include

Biotechnology in Gujarat
The government of Gujarat has set up an office - State Biotechnology
mission - to facilitate the development of biotechnology in the state
Gujarat is well known for its well-developed industrial scenario and
infrastructure. The political and economic stability of the state, well
defined industrial policy, together with some well-known research
institutions, a vibrant and responsive corporate sector make it a very
suitable location and destination for biotechnology related
investments in the state.
Textiles is an important industrial sector in the state and contributes 14% of the
textiles production of India. It is also one of the thrust areas and in this connection
garment and apparel parks are being developed at Surat, Ahmedabad and other
locations.
The leading industrial players in textile industry in Gujarat are Arvind Mills,
Ashima Group, Welspun Group, Raymond's, Reliance Industries, Alok Industries,
Mafatlal Industries, Garden Silk Mills etc.
Gujarat state is known as the hub of pharmaceuticals industry of India. The state’s
pharmaceuticals industry contributes substantially to the production, domestic
consumption and export basket of India’s drug sector. The sector in the state has
many advantages such as an established Chemicals Industry base and
infrastructure in the form of pharmaceutical clusters.

The major players in pharmaceutical industry are Zydus Cadila, Wyeth, Sanofi
Aventis, Abbot, Alembic, Torrent, Sun Pharma, Intas etc

these reasons, Gujarat can
rightly be called a developed
state & can be proclaimed an
industrial giant.
