1. Why are we doing this? 2. What surfaces rst and why? 3. What modications can be made on vertical surfaces? 4. What modications can be made on horizontal surfaces? 5. What depth are occlusal rests prepared to? 6. What depth are incisal rests prepared to? 7. What is a possible problem in preparing cingulum rests? 8. What is a common problem with embrasure clasp preparation? 9. What other uses do tooth modications have? 10. What about modifying crowned teeth?
Vertical! If an occlusal rest (horizontal) was done rst you would destroy the rest contour when you did guide planes and then would have to go back and remodify your rest. Think about it!
What modications can be made on a vertical surface? 1. Guide planes: know their locations on a tooth? 2. Improve retentive areasadd or remove. 3. Reduce insertion interferences. 4. Lower survey lines.
