College of Nursing Holds 51st Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises

Some 509 Regular Program and 287 Special Program Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates of Brokenshire College attended the 51st Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises of the College of Nursing last April 28, 2007 at the Robert Black Covered Court (College Amphitheatre). The Baccalaureate ceremony was held in the morning. This was graced by the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) General Secretary, Bishop Eliezer M. Pascual, as the Key Speaker. In his message, the bishop emphasized the great things God has bestowed on us that lead us to achieving success. He also gave significance on giving thanks for the many things God has done. Moreover, the graduates also had the college pinning ceremony in the morning. The event was headed by Brokenshire College Dean of Nursing Ruby M. Uy, R.N., M.A.N., and assisted by the Clinical Instructors. In the afternoon of the same day, the most awaited commencement exercises was held. The presence of the this years speaker, Dr. Nora S. Ricafort, who is an Oversight Commissioner for the Ladderized Education Program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)- Manila, highlighted the occasion. Ricafort, in her commencement speech, gave focus on the power of education to our lives. Education is life itself, she said. She also pointed out that knowledge and learning are a vital passport to landing a job. Lastly, she stressed the three important keys for success: confidence, determination and knowing what you want to be. Meanwhile, College President Rev. Leopoldo R. Naive, Mdiv., MAEd., headed the presentation of the academic and special awards. Danilo C. Olaer, Jr. and Julius Rav P. Inso, both from the Regular Program, were this years College Academic Excellence awardees, for achieving 92.9% and 92.7% average, respectively. They were given such

for achieving the college grading standards. They were also given special awards together with Jean Laura C. Roo for achieving the second place during the recently concluded Philippine Heart Association Intercollegiate Competition.

Likewise, Russtie T. Villanueva and Ronald S. Muyco were the recipients for this years Most Active Student Leader Award in the Regular and Special Program, respectively. Sistine G. Ramaio, Brokenshirian 2007 Editor-in-Chief, and Randy Mark L. Fernandez, a college athlete, were also given special awards. The Service Award was presented to the College Vice President for Administration, Josabeth M. Dumanig, MAEd. for her 15 year service in Brokenshire College. Office of the Student Affairs Director Ceasar A. Adegue 1V., MPA, and Human Resources Development Officer, Dr. Hazel T. Victoriano, also received the same award for their 10 years of service to the college. The topnotchers during the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination December 2005 and 2006 were also given plaque of recognition. They were Charissa Joy Estrada, Jacqueline Nuere, Noriel Serato, Grashiela Silva, Nazelyn Ann Garsuta and Carlo Dangcalan. The college of Nursing was also given an Institutional Award. This was presented to Dean of Nursing Ruby M. Uy, R.N., M.A.N., for producing topnochers last December 2006. Rosie C. Dela Cruz, BAR, MAN, Level Chairperson and Pricilla F. Custodio, R.N., President of Brokenshire College Alumni Association, led the Florence Nightingale pledge and the Pledge of Loyalty as well as the Reception to the Alumni Association, respectively. -Moses John O.
