SOMETHING THE LORD MADE ISSUES During the early days, the time where skin colour determined

the social status, the time when Black people, as they call it were the discriminated immigrants who were slaves in the America. They had undergone much oppression until the time of President John F. Kennedy, that the oppression reduced and the Caucasians started excepting them as people who have the same capabilities like them. There are many issues that can be discussed from the movie Something the Lord Made but the main issues are ethical religious, and racial issues. The racial issue in the movie was about the White people not recognizing the ability of the Blacks due to their skin colour and their general speculation on the Blacks as slaves. When Vivien Thomas, the Black guy came to work in Dr. Alfred Blaylocks, the White guy laboratory before starting college to gain some hands-on experience, he was underestimated by the doctor and he was told to do the cleaning job instead of assisting the doctor in his work. Never-the-less his perseverance and determination in learning won the doctors heart and the doctor made him his assistant in one of the greatest discoveries for the cure of the Blue Baby Syndrome. It was a sad sight to see the treatment the Black people get because of their skin colour. When Dr. Blaylock took Vivien to the hospital he works at, Vivien had to go through the workers chamber to the laboratory instead of going in the same path as Dr. Blaylock eventhough Dr. Blaylock said that Vivien was his partner. On the other hand, when Vivien arrived at the laboratory, the head of the laboratory asked him to buy him coffee, assuming that he was a utility cleaner because he was Black. Even the washrooms of the Black men were separated from the White men. That is irrational because what germs could possibly be on the Black people and not

on the White people, all u know is the White people may have more germs than the Black people. The ethical issues were the ethics of a doctor in conducting a life-threatening surgery. Dr. Blaylock and Vivien should have experimented their theory and made sure the safety of it before carrying out the surgery on the baby with mercury poisoning. They were about to endanger the babys life by suggesting to carry out the surgery based on the trial on a dog, which then died out of excessive bleeding due to their carelessness. Furthermore, the religious issues that occurred were due to the church not agreeing to the surgery taking place. The priest didnt want the doctors to pressure the babys parents into giving consent to the surgery. In conclusion, the issues present in a storyline is very important in determining the tone and the intensity of the story. The issues present also increases the interest of the viewers to watch a particular show.
