The Daar Of
A
ll of humankind experiences feelings of fear. Two types of fear exist;
one relates to worship and religion, and the other is a natural tendency
Islamic Heritage of human nature. The believer can only complete his Taw’hid by
fearing Allah alone, an act of worship in and of itself. Allah Almighty said in
the Noble Quran, what translated means, B... so fear them not, but fear Me!C C
[2:150], and, B... so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers.CC

However, expressing the natural behavior of fear does not make one’s
Iman incomplete, as we see from the Ayah concerning Prophet Musa, Salla
Allahu Alayhi Wasallam. Also, Prophet Mohammad, Salla Allahu Alayhi
Wasallam, once said, what translated means, “The time will come when a
rider will be able to travel from San’aa’ (the capital of Yemen) to
‘Hadramout (an area in southern Yemen) fearing only Allah and the wolf.”
[Al-Bukhari, Ahmad, Abu Dawood & An-Nasaii].
In the Hadith above, the Messenger of Allah, Salla Allahu Alayhi
Wasallam, listed the fear of Allah together with the fear of the wolf. In fearing
Allah, one expresses a type of worship, whereas fearing the wolf expresses a
natural tendency that the Prophet Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam did not
criticize.

Ad-Dahr

bu Hurayrah, may Allah be

son of Adam annoys Me, for he
abuses Ad-Dahr (time) although I am
Ad-Dahr: in My Hands are all
things, and I cause the revolution of

2– With regards to Prophet
Mohammad, Salla Allahu Alayhi
Wasallam: Again, Sufis have various
beliefs regarding the Messenger of
Allah, Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam,
as follows:
a) Some Sufis claim that the
Messenger Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasal-
lam neither reached their status nor
acquired the knowledge the Sufis have
acquired. Al-Bustami said, “We went
into an ocean that the Prophets could
only stand on its shores!”
b) Some Sufis believe that the
Prophet Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam
is the dome of the universe, that he is
Allah Who is settled above the Throne,
and that all of creation was made from
his light. This is the creed of Ibn
‘Arabi and those who embraced his
utter deviance. Ibn ‘Arabi said, “The
creation started with the Habaa’
(atoms), and then the first to come into
existence was the true, beneficent
Mohammadan essence, and which is
described as being settled on the
Throne of the Most Beneficent, which
is the Lord’s Throne!” [Al-Futu’hat
Al-Makkiyyah, v. 1, p. 152].
c) Some Sufis claim that
Prophet Mohammad’s light was the
first thing to be created, and the rest of
the universe was created from the
Prophet’s light. Ahmad bin Mubarak
As-Suljumasi, in his book “Al-Ibreez”,
reported that his teacher, Abdul-Aziz
Ad-Dabbagh, said, “… the first of all
what Allah created was Mohammad’s
light. From it (meaning from
Mohammad’s light) Allah then created
the Qhalam (the Pen, which Allah
commanded to write all what will

occur in the universe from beginning to
end), the seventy veils, and their
respective angels (meaning who attend
each veil). Allah then created Al-
Law’h (in which all what will occur is
duly recorded)…”
d) Some Sufis claim that the
Prophet’s light was the first to exist,
and that Allah created everything for
Mohammad’s sake, but they do not
claim that everything was created from
Mohammad’s light. Al-Booseiry
wrote what is called “Al-Burdah”, a
well-known poem, among the Sufis
that is, and which is still frequently
recited until today, especially during
the Prophet’s birthday (Al-Mawlid)!
This poem contains several deviant
beliefs. In it he said, “Among your

Ad-Dahr in reality is cursing and
slandering Allah, and this indeed

he has generously granted, so Al-

Prophet Mohammad, Salla Allahu

life, even though he strived hard to
gain the good of the Afterlife by
worshipping Allah more than any other
human being. Al-Booseiry also
claimed that the Prophet Salla Allahu
Alayhi Wasallam possessed knowledge
of the Unseen, which in reality Allah
reserved for Himself.

This crime frequently occurs
in the present time. It is committed

especially poets, aware or unaware
that Islam strictly prohibits this
practice. This has become so common
that not many Muslims even take
notice when they commit such a
heinous crime, even though it entails
cursing and annoying Allah.
Islam obliges every Muslim to
preserve his tongue, safeguard his
religion, and avoid all actions and
words that bring about Allah’s
punishment and wrath. We ask Allah
that He leads all Muslims to what is
good and righteous and that He repels
all harm from touching them.
 Repelling the Devil
Satan’s

n numerous instances, Texts of the
Quran and the Sunnah emphasize

Muslims to resort to Allah and seek
protection from Satan through Him.

encourages the human being to fall
into the prohibitions. He frequently
seeks to divide people, to plant seeds
of hatred among them, and to sow in
their hearts envy, arrogance, hatred,
and all types of ill feelings that further
his goals and advance his evil plots.
Also, he has assistants, allies, and
followers who aid him to achieve all
this.
If a person disobeys his Lord
and Creator and instead follows Satan,
accepts his call, and joins his ranks, he
becomes the ultimate looser who will
share Satan’s residence in the
Afterlife. Allah said, what translated
means, BSatan has overtaken them.
So he has made them forget the
remembrance of Allah. They are the

party of Satan. Verily, it is the party
of Satan that will be the losers!CC
[58:19]. He also said, BAllah said,
“Go, and whosoever of them follows
you (O Satan). Surely, Hell will be
the recompense of you all an ample
recompense.”C C [17:63].
On the other hand, Allah gave
glad tidings to those who defy Satan
and instead follow the Straight Path.
He said, what translated means,
BVerily! You (O Satan) have no
authority over My true slaves. And
All-Sufficient is your Lord as a
Guardian.C C [17:65]. This is Allah’s
Bounty and Grace that He bestows
upon His righteous slaves, and this
demonstrates His Generosity and
Mercy with them. He said in the
Noble Quran, what translated means,
BHad it not been for the Grace and
Mercy of Allah upon you, you would
have followed Satan, save a few of

Allah, the Gracious and the
Merciful, explained in great detail how
Imam Ibn Kathir commented
on the second set of verses above,
saying, “These three verses do not
require a fourth to complete their
meaning. Allah shows us here how to
deal with our enemies from among
mankind, by dealing with them in a
good and exalted manner, for this will
likely lead to eliminating hatred and
establishing peace and harmony. Allah
then commands us to seek refuge with
Him from our eternal and most deadly
enemy, Satan. There can never be
peace with this enemy, for he only
seeks the destruction of mankind
because of the great animosity and
hatred he harbors towards our father,
Adam. Allah said, what translated
means, BSurely, Satan is an enemy to
you, so take (treat) him as an enemy.
He only invites his followers that
they may become the dwellers of the
blazing Fire (Hell).CC [35:6], and,
BWill you then take him (Satan) and
his offspring as protectors and
helpers instead of Me while they are
enemies to you?! What an evil

Satan once swore to our
father, Adam, Salla Allahu Alayhi
Wasallam, that he only seeks to advise
and benefit him, and he was indeed a
clear and manifest liar. Why would
one then expect anything good from
him now, especially after he swore, as
Allah mentioned, B“By Your Might
(O Allah), I will surely mislead them
all. Except Your chosen slaves
amongst them (faithful, obedient, true
believers in Islamic Monotheism).”CC
[38:82-83]. Allah also said regarding
him, what translated means, BSo when
you want to recite the Quran, seek
refuge with Allah from Satan, the
outcast (the cursed one). Verily! He
has no power over those who believe
and put their trust only in their Lord
C [16:98-100].” [Tafsir Al-
(Allah).C

Calling the Athan

forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and
turn away from the foolish (i.e. don’t
punish them). And if an evil whisper
comes to you from the devil, seek
refuge with Allah. Verily, He is the
All-Hearer, the All-Knower.C C [7:199-
200], and, BThe good deed and the
evil deed cannot be equal. Repel the
evil deed with one that is better. Then
verily, he, between whom and you
there was enmity, will become as
though he is a close friend. But none
is granted it (the above quality) except
those who are patient, and none is
granted it except the owner of a great
portion (of happiness in this life as
well as in the Afterrlife). And if an
evil whisper from the devil tries to
turn you away (O Mohammad) (from
doing good, etc.), then seek refuge
with Allah. Verily, He is the All-
Hearer, the All-Knower.C C [41:34-36].

he Prophet Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam said, what translated means,
“When the Athan (the call to prayer) is called, the devil takes to his
heels, passing gas (with a loud noise) so he does not hear it, and when
the Athan is finished, he returns. Then when the Iqamah (the second and
final call to prayer) is called, the devil again takes to his heels, and when the
Iqamah is finished he returns again and seeks to interfere with the person
and his thoughts by saying, ‘Remember this and that (things the person did
not think of before the prayer),’ until he forgets how many Ruk’ahs he has
prayed.” [Al-Bukhari].
Also, one of the great Tabi’een (the second generation of Islam), Abu
Sale’h As-Samman, who narrated numerous Hadiths from Abu Hurayrah, would
always remind his son, Sohayl, to recite the Athan aloud if he hears strange
noises or voices, or if he ever encounters Jinn who seek to harm him. Sohayl
narrated, “Once, my father sent me on an errand along with a servant to the
tribe of ‘Harithah. While on our way, a caller heralded from a nearby garden
and called the servant by his name. The servant went to investigate but found no
one. I later mentioned this to my father, whereupon he said, ‘Had I anticipated
that you would encounter something like this, I would have never sent you.
However, if at any time you hear such voices, pronounce the Athan, for I heard
Abu Hurayrah narrate that the Messenger of Allah, Salla Allahu Alayhi
Wasallam, said, ‘When the prayer is called for, the devil flees while passing
gas.’” [Muslim].

Imam Ibn Daqiq Al-’Eid Imam Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Eid was
reared in the village of Qus, in Egypt.
He is Abu Al-Fat’h, Mo- In his early years, he learned the

Mohammad bin Sayyid An-
Nas stated that he never met anyone
with vast knowledge like Ibn Daqiq Al-
’Eid, “Or in terms of his knowledge in
hidden defects and weaknesses in the
Hadiths. He was one of a kind in this
subject during his time.” Ibn Daqiq
Al-‘Eid was so careful in narrating the
Hadith that he often refrained from
using a chain of narrators by some of
his teachers whom he was not sure as
to their qualification as narrators of
Hadith or regarding their precision and
good memory.
His Knowledge
His first teacher was his
father, who was a renowned and
righteous scholar. Also among his
teachers were Jamaluddin Al-Attar,
Ibn Qayyem Al-Jawziyyah, Ibn Al-
Khabbazi, Fat’hud-Din Al-Qalansi
Al-’Hanbali, and many others.
As for students, he had many
who later became noted scholars and
Imams themselves, such as Ibn Ar-
Rassam, Al-‘Hafith Az-Zarkashi, Ali
bin Mohammad At-Tartosi, Ibn Al-
Muzalliq, and Ibn Al-La’hham who
was his closest student.
His Virtues
As for Ibn Qadhi Shahbah,
he said concerning him, “The
Shaykh, the Imam, the scholar, the
pious and righteous, the Shaykh of
the ‘Hanbalis and their best scholar.”
As for Imam As-Siyuti, he said
regarding him, “The Imam, the
Faqih, the one who memorized the
Hadiths.”
Finally, Imam Ibn Al-’Imad
said regarding Imam Ibn Rajab, may
Allah bestow His mercy upon him,
“The Shaykh, the Imam, the knowl-
edgeable, the pious, the role-model,
the one with good memory, the
dependable narrator.”
His Books

Imam Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Eid left
behind several beneficial books, such
as Al-Iqtira’h fi Ma’rifati Al-Istila’h,
on the terminology of Hadith. He also
explained ‘Umadat Al-A’hkam, by
Imam Al-Maqdisi, and titled his
explanation of this book “I’hkam Al-
Ah’kam” in which Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Eid
recorded much of his knowledge in
Hadith and Fiqh.
Imam Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Eid, may
Allah bestow His mercy upon him,
passed away in Egypt in 702 after
Hijrah, and a large number of people
participated in his funeral. May Allah
grant him mercy and great rewards for
his efforts and the beneficial knowl-
edge he left behind for the entire
Muslim Ummah.
Every scholar who wrote Ibn
Rajab’s biography praised him and
detailed his good conduct and vast
knowledge. Imam Ibn ‘Hajji said,
“He mastered the art (knowledge)
and became the most knowledgeable
of his time in the weaknesses of
Hadiths and chains of narrators.”
Also, Imam Ibn ‘Hajar said regard-
ing him, “The Shaykh, the knowl-
edgeable in Hadith, and the one who
memorized the Hadiths.” He also
said, “He was a good worshipper,
frequently praying at night.”
Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib
Imam Ibn Rajab wrote
numerous books on various aspects
of Islamic knowledge. In Fiqh he
wrote A’hkam Al-Khawatim, Al-
Qawaa’id Al-Kubra, and Manafi’
Al-Imam Ahmad. On the knowledge
of Hadith he wrote his famous and
most beneficial book, Jami’ Al-
Uloom Wa Al-‘Hikam, and he also
wrote Shar’h Jami’ Al-Imam At-
Tirmithi. In addition, he wrote
numerous books on the Quran,
history, good conduct, and several
other topics.

Imam Ibn Rajab
He is Zaynuddin Abdur-
Ra’hman Al-’Hasan bin Mohammad
As-Salami Al-‘Hanbali, also known
as Al-‘Hafith Ibn Rajab Al-‘Hanbali.
He was born in Baghdad in 736 AH
(After Hijrah), and he passed away
in the month of Rajab in 795 AH,
may Allah bestow His Mercy and
Forgiveness upon him.

is name is Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib bin ‘Hazn bin Abi Wahb, from the
tribe of Makhzum, from the grand tribe of Quraysh. He was born in the
year 13 after Hijrah. He was one of the Tabi’ieen, (the second genera-
tion of Islam), and he was also one of the seven renowned Faqihs (scholars of
Fiqh [Islamic Jurisprudence]) of Madinah during his time.
He was a Faqih and a scholar of Hadith and known for his piety and the
modesty he observed in the way he conducted his life. He also acquired a signifi-
cant portion of knowledge from Caliph Umar bin Al-Khattab, may Allah be
pleased with him. Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib avoided taking any gifts from the
rulers, and he preferred instead to work to earn his living. He passed away in
Madinah in the year 94 after Hijrah.

llah, the Praised and Ever-
High, reminds mankind in His
Book, the Noble Quran, of His
Favor upon them that He created them,

separate creation.
Allah did not create men and
women from different origins. He did
not create women from a substance
other than clay, or from clay but
independently from men. If this had
been the case, a state of alienation
would have existed between men and
women.
