Conductors Biography
Mr. Antwoin L. Holman was born in Gary, IN and attended school at the
Emerson School for the Visual and Performing Arts from grade 6 through 12.
Mr. Holman received his B.A. in Music with an emphasis in Voice from
Philander Smith College, Little Rock, AR and his MME (Choral Music) from
Florida State University. This is his fifth year as choral director at Freedom
High School. He was previously the choral director at Rickards High School
in Tallahassee, FL for two years and associate choral director at Cypress
Creek High School for one year Orlando, FL. In addition to teaching Mr.
Holman is an active soloist whose singing style ranges from classical to jazz
and gospel. He is currently completing his debut contemporary gospel CD
entitled “Songs in the Key of the Anointing” which is scheduled for release
soon. Mr. Holman is an active member of ACDA, MENC, FMEA, and FVA.

Freedom High School Choral Department

The Freedom High School Choral Department under the direction of Mr.
Antwoin L. Holman consists of approximately 145 students in five choirs.
Women’s Chorus comprised primarily 9th grade freshmen and 10th- 12th
grade non-auditioned women. Patriot Men consists of men from Concert
Choir combined with Beginning Men’s Chorus (non-auditioned). Belle Voix
(advanced women’s choir) and Concert Choir (advanced mixed choir) are
both auditioned choirs comprised of mostly 10-12th graders. Patriot Singers
consists of 25 selected singers from Concert Choir. Freedom High School is
now entering its fifth school-year and for the past four years the FHS choirs
have received superior ratings at both district and state levels.

About Concert Choir

Concert Choir is Freedom High School’s advanced mixed ensemble. The
choir consists of 69 singers, grades 10-12. Concert Choir meets everyday
during 4th period of the school day. For the past 4 years Concert Choir has
received superior ratings at both district and state level festivals. Last
spring they traveled to Atlanta, GA to participate in the Heritage Music
Festival and received 1st Place Superior Gold medal, “Most Outstanding
Performance Distinction” and the “Adjudicators Award.”

Our obligation as choral music educators is to expose our students to a wide

variety of quality music from the choral repertoire, past and present. We
also draw from both the western and world music heritages. A balanced
school year choral curriculum should include more than one kind of music
and text. Historically, 80% of the choral repertoire is sacred in nature, and
any balanced program should not ignore this marvelous heritage.
