EVERYBODY GOES DOWNHILL

Sledding takes place behind Big White Community School
By Alexandra Cottingham
GRADE 5 SNOW REPORTER

BIG WHITE COMMUNITY SCHOOL - Kids have already started bringing their sleds and building forts. The kids are buzzing with excitement. They cant wait for the ski hill to open so they can start skiing. Once it snows there will be bigger forts and jumps to ski over. "Its great I cant wait for winter to come so I can ski, said a grade 9 boy. "I love winter, I can't wait for it to come" said one of the parents at Big White "Ive already gone to the top of the Ridge Rocket on my snowshoes, there were lots of people out there on the ski hill enjoying themselves". Lots of people have already started hiking up and then skiing and snowboarding down.

Parents have started to tell their kids to go outside and play in the snow or go for a walk. "Even if its snowing I think you should still go outside" said another parent on the hill. "Im gonna build a big fort, said a grade 3 boy. Soon the groomers will be coming down the hill and the ski hill will be open for every kid to ski or board down. Soon enough the kids will be skiing down the hill. Powder days, snowy days, crunchy snow days, there will always be someone skiing on the hill, there will always be at least one set of ski tracks at Big White. "I'm goanna try

GLOBE IS OPEN FOR SEASON

Globe caf and tapas bar is officially opening on Monday Nov 14

BWCS - The sledding season started when it snowed for a couple of days. Most of the children are using the sleds at school, but some children brought their sleds to school. The children made a jump that you feel like you are flying through the air. Some of the children have been on the jump, but you have wear a helmet before you go on the jump. Safety first said a teacher. When you go sledding you might see some grass but youll still have fun. Some people have done a train or a line on the sleds. On the jump you could do tricks but it will be hard. Some people have done tricks like standing on the board, but not on the jump.

A grade 5 said "It is fun sledding." A grade 6 said, "It is fun going on the jump." A grade 7 said "It is fun making a train with other people while going downhill, it is also exciting." The children are using different types of sleds like the magic carpet sled, foam sleds that are speedy, a round sled and a sled with a stick in the middle to control the sled. Let's hope more snow comes so the children can make more jumps and go down steeper hills to have more fun. Now we all hope that none of the children get hurt really badly. The children are having fun with sledding. Happy sledding!

Hadron Super Collider Finds Disturbing Results

By Cole Rempel
GRADE 9 SCIENCE WRITER

On Thursday September 22nd Scientists in Geneva Switzerland at the Hadron Super Collider found that the results of a test were quite confusion because apparently the test achieved a velocity over 299,792,458 meters per second, the speed of light, and reached 299,798,454 meters per second. That is only about 8000 meters per second faster but it is still enough to cause people to become shocked about the possibilities of faster than light travel. The scientists say that it could be an equipment malfunction and that they could be wrong. Actually they say that it is probably wrong and that they need other collider facilities to verify this. It is also possible that an object moving that fast could travel back or forward in time! Apparently this might not be possible though because it is thought that if there is such a thing as tachyons (possible particles that move faster than light) they might not have any way of interaction with normal matter. Of course there have been things like this happen before. Everyone thinks that the speed of light is not the fastest and then it is disproved by another test somewhere else and the matter is quickly forgotten. This may be the situation at the moment.

Many scientists say that it is possible but unlikely. Some other scientists say that the particles may be traveling through extra dimensions making it look like the particles are traveling faster than light. If they find that there are particles, like tachyons, that move faster than light, physicists may have to rewrite the laws of physics to fix this problem. The particles the physicists used were neutrinos, a particle that is neutrally charged and has a very small mass. It is also possible that the speed the particles are going is the speed of neutrinos and the speed of light might not be the fastest possible speed... Instead the speed of neutrinos. It is possible that this could be a discovery that undermines Einstein and his theory that the speed of light is the fastest possible speed of anything. Apparently the scientists have been rechecking their work and testing equipment and it shows that perhaps the speed of light could be wrong. The Hadron Super Collider has retried their tests over and over again to see if they were correct so far they have seen that the results are the same every time.

BIG WHITE - The restaurant Globe caf and tapas bar at Big White Ski Resort is opening on November 14th. It has expanded the space and the menu. It is ready to open full time hours for the ski season. Opened in 2008 Globe has become a part of the community. This summer Globe bought Sweet Cravings old space and they expanded. wners Paul and Jude also decided to change the menu and had to hire new staff to cope with the extra demand. Globe is in a convenient ski-in/ski-out location, in Trappers Crossing. Globe serves food from around the world with a new special every night. Also Globe has events such as trivia night every Monday night and live music every Thursday. Globe is warm and welcoming. There is something on the menu for everyone. Families are especially welcome. We have high chairs, kids coloring and our famous coffee and ultimate hot chocolate. Said owner Jude Brunt. Locals say things like It has the best coffee on the hill. Globe serves smooth European style Cafe Umbria coffee that gets imported from Seattle every week. The third generation coffee rosters come from Perugia in Umbria, Italy and they created the name.

RICE!

AMAZING STUDENT ART AT BWCS By Cole IsfanGRADE 4 ART REPORTER

For Remembrance Day the school of BWCS showed some art off. What they did was they made peace and war paintings mixed with warm and cold colors. Lots of people painted peace symbols and volcanoes. Lewis Brunt and Adam Isfan made some exceptional art. Thats just a couple of many great paintings. Before Big White Community School did that they made CandyCorn Bandits and Frankensteins made of paper. They were pretty impressive. Two of the best were Carmens Frankenstein and Jonathan's CandyCorn Bandit those two were awesome. Also for Remembrance Day the seniors and a couple of the juniors made poppies. They were really fantastic. For the Remembrance Day ceremony everybody wore the poppies then hung them up on the wall with all with all the other amazing Remembrance Day art. The wall looked great for and Remembrance Day. I would think the parents enjoyed it.

The senior students at Big White Community School are excitedly earning rice. They do it for and when they finish their work. The goal is to come in first but..." Free Rice is for fun and to help others that need it, said one senior student in Mr. Bond's class. Some have all ready earned 10 000 grains of rice! In free rice you answer questions to donate rice. There is plenty of types of questions like: French, English grammar, identifying countries on the map

and more. If you are joining, then search Big White then pick the group that says CFRSC - Big White Community School - SD51 and click join. We would love for you to join since the class is going up against group of 20 to 40 so we need more people to join. Some strategies that the seniors use are: think until they get it, guess and rapidly and randomly click answers. Do any of these help you? (I hope so) do you want to help kids have rice to eat? Play free rice now!

DAY
One of the visitors said, "Did you really make that?" The juniors made a wonderful, through power point, audio book with each of them drawing a page and reading the text for the particular page. The juniors teacher said, It turned out very good lots of people showed up and the kids learned the importance of Remembrance Day. The whole school came together and made paintings which where later put up on the wall.

Parents were' wowed at the work children presented '

BWCS - On Thursday November 10th BWCS gathered to remembered the people who served our country. Lots of parents and firefighters came to watch the ceremony. Both seniors and juniors made a presentation for the ceremony. The seniors made three poems each but chose only one to present at the assembly. Each poem is completely original. Mr. Bond said," I'm very pleased with the students effort and attitude toward poetry and Remembrance Day," The seniors looked at other poems made by other students to get inspiration. Another person said, "It was interesting. They made three different types of poems each and choose the one they felt the most confident with. They read these out loud at the assembly in front of the crowd. Each student made a war painting and a peace painting with either light or dark paints. The seniors also made poppies for the ceremonies, which some visitors put up on the wall when the ceremony was over. In front of the wall, with the paintings and poppies, are some relics related to the wars. These include a military cap, some medals, footage of world war two, some pictures of men and woman in the army, a poem book from 1922, a book about the history of world war one, a documentary about Canada at war, a book with poems from various men and women and a map of England before World War 2. Many people think that the ceremony had affect on how some people felt about Remembrance Day. Personally I feel that the ceremony was very influencing.
