Little Jimmy-Little Carole

Little Jimmy and Little Carole were making spaghetti one night for dinner
when Little Jimmy mentioned how they should add salt to the boiling water for the
pasta. He explained to Little Carole that this would make the water boil at a
higher temperature. Little Carole had never heard about this before and told
Little Jimmy that salt would not affect the temperature of the water. To test Little
Jimmy's theory, she decided to conduct an experiment to see whether or not salt
really changed the temperature of boiling water.
Little Jimmy decided to make the sauce for the spaghetti while Little
Carole performed the experiment. To begin, Little Carol measured a gallon of
tap water into a pot, waited till she saw some steam coming from the water and
then used a thermometer to measure the temperature of the water. She
recorded the temperature of the water and waited for it to boil. Then Little Cindy
took a spoon full of table salt and poured it into the boiling water and then
measured the temperature of the water. The temperature of the water was
higher than the first time Little Carol had taken a temperature reading of the
water.
Little Carol decided to perform the experiment one more time hoping to
disprove Little Jimmy's theory. This time, Little Carole poured tap water into a
pot and waited for the water to boil before taking a temperature reading. After
the water had boiled, she measured the temperature and recorded the result.
Then, using a different spoon from before, she measured two spoon full's of sea
salt and dumped it into the pot of boiling water. She mixed up the salt into the
water and then took a reading. The water was boiling at a higher temperature
than it was before, Little Jimmy was right!
Little Jimmy returned to Little Carole and asked her how the experiment
went. She explained in great detail the steps she took while performing the
experiment. Little Jimmy explained that she made 6 mistakes while performing
the experiment but he was thrilled that he was right with his theory!
