Introduction?

I am Gagan Pahwa, employed as a Guest Services Manager in Kingfisher Airlines since may 2008, after completing classroom trainings in BOM, I went to various non-metro and semi-metro airports for on-the-job training, then I moved to DEL and worked as a ramp manager initially. After working on ramp side I got a chance to handle terminal operations for Kingfisher Red flights in Terminal 1B, after successful handling on Kf red flights I moved to T-1A to manage apt ops for KFC product. During T-1D launch worked as a migration manager and led KF team in Trials, Trainings and Familiarization sessions. At terminal 1-D quantum of operations increased and we had 60 flights in a day, I was a part of terminal team and kept on rotating between counters and boarding gate. In march 2010, kf started international flights from DEL, after two months from the start of international operations, I got a chance to move to t-2 to learn and manage int ops and currently at T-3 I am managing airport operations for flights to LHR, DXB, HKG, BKK and KTM. Prior to work I have done MBA in Aviation management from UPES, Dehradun, During my management studies I worked as an intern in Air Deccan at HAL Airport bangalore and got an exposure of airport services, engineering and flight operations departments. Prior to management studies I have done engineering in I.T from K.U.K. I hail from karnal and there are 4 members in my family.

What do you know about Go Air? Go-Air is a Domestic Low Cost Carrier, based in Mumbai. Its a venture of Wadia group, led by Managing Director, Mr. Jeh Wadia. CEO, Mr. Kaushik Khona, Inception date of commercial operations:- NOV 2005 Fleet of 10 ABUS A320, Destinations--19, Daily flights--160. Market share is just less than 7% and a load factor of 77%. Why do you want to leave Kingfisher? After proving myself as a successful duty manager in all aspects of airport services management, I want to move up in my career and looking for a more challenging and responsible position. i.e an airport managers position. I have been looking forward for an opportunity to handle a station independently.

a) Did nt you get this opportunity in KF? Yes, there were a few opportunities in the recent past, but those were the seasonal airports with one ATR departure with a total capacity of 48 seats where in the average load of a station like JDH is 12, AGR is 20. On those stations Supis from DEL were sent as an officiating managers bcs it was not cost effective to send a duty manager to those stations. And when there was a vacany on a station like LEH, one of the SUPI who was already moved from DEL to handle a seasonal airport was given an opportunity. In addition to that there are around 90 dms throughout the network, and managers senior to me are already waiting to make a move as an airport manager thats why I have now started looking outside the organization for this opportunity.

Why do you want to join Go-Air? Last ans + an I the opportunity outside that is in front of me. Why should we recruite you? Because I believe that I have all the skill sets and breadth of knowledge required to handle this job efficiently. What are the skills you acquire while working as a duty manager in DEL/metro? What are your salary expectations? Sir - I have come with an open mind and as you are more qualified to tell me what the job is worth to the company than I am, so you are the right judge to decide a fair package for this position. Currently I am drawing 40k + uniform + air travel + buddy tickets I could foresee additional expenses for my accommodation uniform Apart from salary what are the benefits/allowances will I be getting? If I leave with immediate effect, will company bear this cost? Will company pay me relocation benefit? Any terms and conditions? Your Vision/aim? To work as a CEO for an Airline.

Why did not you prefer to work after engineering? When you work you have to share your family responsibilities also and you cannot run from that and after all these you hardly get time for studies but I wanted to study further so I decided to complete my studies first and then go for job and share family responsibilities with my parents. Fortunately my parents supported me in my decision, bore all my expenses and allowed to only concentrate on my studies. Why did you do engineering? Since childhood, engineer word was inculcated into my mind by my parents, family and other seniors. What did you learn from these professional studies? Apart from developing my techinal and managerial acumen, I accquire interpersonal skills like :Communication Delegating Negotiation Resolving Conflict Persuading Rapport Buliding Time Management Mental Agility:- ability to grasp things quickly and to think of several things at once, Emotional Resilience:- Managers Job involves a degree of emotional stress and strain, which arises as a natural consequence of meeting targets, deadlines.

Analytical skills Problem solving and decision making Team Player through various activities like role plays, group discussions, case studies, assisgnments, projects and presentations. And today all the experience gained during that time helped me in understanding and managing my team efficiently because at the end of the day, in this kind of job profile its all people management be it its your team management or passenger management Why did you do MBA in Aviation after doing B.Tech in IT or Why did not you do MBA in I.T? During final year of my engineering I visited Indian Airlines CRC department, outside terminal 1-B for a software project called air ticket reservation system. During that internship program I was issued a temporary airport entry pass, I got a chance to visit airport and have a look at the terminals activities, during that 8 weeks long program an affinity developed in me for airports. I wanted to go for MBA to add more value to my career. I chose to go for MBA in Aviation management. So, its all basically because of my affinity towards Aviation and I do not when this liking/interest became my passion and I got bitten by that aviation bug and I got addicted to airport life. Though it was niche specialization course but to start with anything you need to understand the basics and the general concepts first. On the same pattern our course was designed, we understood the concept of general management first and then it was related to aviation. In short, hardware networking, software development, web designing and data management, these were the four job oriented areas, apart from that i have learnt n different things like welding, cutting, lathing, foundry work, studied 64 different subjects which helped in enhancing my knowlege related to our day to day life. In addition to that i have accquired interpersonal skills through various role plays, project works, assignments, case studies/group studies and group discussions, presentations. Is money important to you? Money is important but work is the most important How do you evaluate success? Success means different to different people, having your dream fulfilled and achieveing your goal in life.

MBA - Aviation Enterprise Management B.E - I used to enjoy attending labs of web designing. Are you Happy with a package offered to you? Of course I am happy and thank you very much for offering me this package but with this salary I would not be able to make a move to Mumbai, as I could foresee additional expenses for my accommodation uniform travel so it wont be feasible to make a move, so I would request you for the re-consideration of the package after knowing all these facts

How do you deal with criticism? Criticism is vital to my continued growth, and I welcome constructive criticism that helps a team operate better together or produce better results. It is important to me to understand where my critic is coming from so that I know how to apply the feedback.
