In today's Gospel, Saint Matthew offers a compelling vision of the end-time, when the people of all the nations are brought before the Lord to give an account of their lives and actions. Interestingly, the sheep, the righteous ones, are rewarded for having acted with love and compassion without having recognized the face of Christ in others. Good stewards recognize those in need of their care as gifts from God. They know that they are the instruments of Christ's active, loving presence in the world. How will we treat others this week: our family members, neighbors, customers, strangers? What accounting will we make to the Lord for their care?
Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday the parish office will close at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. If there is an emergency please call 630.629.1717 ext 1. You can also leave messages for our staff as usual. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! The office will reopen at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Rest in Peace
Our condolences to the family and friends of Anne Maguire & Fr. Donald OConnor

Candidates Who Will Enter Into the Fullness of the Faith on Easter Sunday
My name is Sandi Schroeder. I was baptized Christian and attended St. Francis Catholic High School. I went to Catholic Church with my grandmother when I was younger. My mother and father have attended Christ the King for twenty plus years. I have always liked the ceremony of the Catholic Church throughout my life. I decided it was time to make it official. My sponsor is my sister in law, Paige Logan. My name is Amy Schroeder. I was baptized Christian in a Presbyterian church. Growing up I did not attend church. My grandmother has been a parishioner of Christ the King for all of my life. This has drawn me towards Jesus and the Church. Being a part of the Catholic Church gives me a sense of belonging and peace in my life. My sponsor is Anthony Dilla. My name is Reuben Logan. I was baptized Presbyterian and have attended Christ the King Parish for many years with my wife, Elaine. After many years of being called to do that for which God put me on Earth. This is for me the beginning of the final journey to finally meet face to face with Him. Hopefully, He will grant me the time, direct my hands and my heart, and give me the strength to accomplish that mission. My wife, Elaine, will be my sponsor. My name is Marie Lowenthal Schram. I was baptized a Catholic but I was not raised in the Catholic Church. I did occasionally attend various Christian churches. When my husband and I decided to start a family, we agreed that we would raise the children in the Catholic faith. We have them in Catholic school, and they have learned so much. My oldest son just told me that he wants to be a priest! I wanted to join the Church so I could help lead them in the Catholic faith. My sponsor will be my husband, Jeff Schram.
Blessings to you and yours on this day of thanks. May your holiday be filled with the joy family brings, the peace of our Lord Jesus, and prayer for those less fortunate. The Catechists and Staff of Christ the King Parish

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is a holiday that is among the nations finest national traditions. Indeed, setting a day aside for giving thanks to God is not just a U.S. phenomenon. Canadians have a Thanksgiving Day, and many countries worldwide celebrate harvest festivals that express gratitude to God. For Christian stewards, Thanksgiving Day has special meaning, for we know that gratitude lies at the very heart of stewardship. A grateful heart heralds the beginning of discipleship and opens the way to our deepest response, the desire to return to God for the bounty of our lives. The French educator Jean Baptiste Massieu put it beautifully: Gratitude is the memory of the heart. For what do we thank our Creator? The early American colonists, who gave inspiration to the Thanksgiving Day tradition, were thankful for their very survival in a harsh and unforgiving environment. Many of their compatriots were buried in the soil of their new land, far from all that had been cherished and familiar. Its natural to thank God when things seem to turn out the way we had hoped, when disaster is averted, when life seems filled with abundance. Harder, perhaps, is the ability to thank God for being present to us in times of struggle, seeming failure, illness and death. But, in the heart of the Christian steward, the memory of Gods presence is a comfort and a gift all its own. If we take time to reflect on our lives, we often discover that that for which we are most grateful was a gift which we struggled to receive. What came to us in the form of hardship has in hindsight revealed itself as gift. This is why each days struggles and trials should be met with a heartfelt thank you. Meister Eckhart, the 14th century Dominican mystic, wrote, If the only prayer you ever say is thank you, that will suffice. At first, this seems puzzling. What of praise and petition? But Eckhart knew that the most genuine response, and indeed, the first and most spontaneous response of the heart which has discovered God, is thank you. Gratitude lies at the beginning of true prayer. As we reflect on this time of thanksgiving, let us be present to those moments when Gods gifts were hidden in shadow and remember to be thankful for all.

No class on November 23 November 30, 2011 Week 6: A Body Both Suffering and Glorious - The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church Clearly answering the question, What is the Church? Father Barron presents the reality of the Church as one, holy, catholic and apostolic. The Body of Christ can be seen all over the earth, while still escaping total understanding as the mystical union between Christ and his Church.
As November quickly passes us by, nearly everyone looks with anticipation to the Thanksgiving Day feast. Families and friends gather around tables bursting with good food, a signal that the season of winter Holy Days is about to begin. On Thanksgiving Day, many Catholics will attend Mass, although it is not a Holy Day. It is a day when the secular culture and the Church meet. Over 400 years after the first Thanksgiving, the missals used in Roman Catholic parishes throughout the United States now present special readings for Thanksgiving Day. The word, Eucharist, means "thanksgiving." What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving Day that to celebrate Eucharist in union with all Catholics in the United States. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all the gifts we have been blessed with, beginning with the gift of our own life and the lives of those we love. But it doesn't end there. It is also a time to pray for those who feel they don't have anything to give thanks for. We invite you to bring non-perishable goods for the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. We will have a presentation of food for the needy during the offertory of the mass-the time when we physically present our gifts before the Altar of Sacrifice. Following mass, blessed bread will be passed out for your family meals that evening. Thank you to all those who volunteer for our St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and PADS service team. These servants tend to the poor and needy of our community each and every week throughout the year. Please note that there will not be a 8:30am Mass on Thanksgiving, nor will there be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Peter and the entire parish staff wish you, your family and friends a safe, happy, and blessed Thanksgiving!
