THE 7 BLESSINGS OF TONGUES

RESTING

No.2

Mans spirit longs for rest and every week 1000s of stressed people go to doctors and psychologists seeking for help. God has provided a very effective way to give us more rest from within and that is the anointing of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues.
For

with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. Isaiah 28:11-12

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. NIV Douay-Rheims Bible interprets the last verse and I will refresh you." Jesus spoke of how He would give us rest and that is fulfilled in and through the ministry of The Holy Spirit. Paul quoted Isaiah 28:12 in his discourse of tongues in 1 Corinthians 14:21-22. Its really speaking about the Assyrians but Paul saw how it applied prophetically, to the manifestation of tongues. Our mind and emotions enter into a rest as we pray in the Spirit and we begin to talk with God spirit to Spirit, bypassing our consciousness. When we pray in tongues we relax mentally, and cease from our own thinking and allow the Holy Spirit to form our prayers. Most of the time we are not even aware of whats causing our unrest and problems and we dont know what we need, but the Spirit does. And can help us from within as we pray in tongues.
In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness; for we do not know what prayers to offer nor in what way to offer them. But the Spirit Himself pleads for us in yearnings that can find no words, (Romans 8:26, Weymouth)

What a wonderful refreshing is ours when we cease from our own works and turn all our problems and difficulties over to the Spirit within and allow Him to plead for us to God according to God's will. We are then empowered to enter into an anointed life. We have fellowship with our Creator under direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This is the rest, and this is the refreshing prophesied.
So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. (Hebrews 4:9 TLB) For all who have entered into God's rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. (Hebrews 4:10 TLB)

Here we are told that the Spirit filled believer who has entered into God's rest has stopped relying on his own thoughts, ideas and plans. He has shifted his dependence on the flesh to faith in the power of God.
So let us do our best (Labour) to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. (Hebrews 4:11)

We are admonished to "labour" to make this rest our experience. It is not salvation that is being spoken of here but our efforts. Its something that we do here on earth. Its clear we must exert spiritual force to enter into this rest. Apparently a struggle is to be expected before we can experience the "Rest" of God through it. The example of unbelief referred to here is the failure of the children of Israel to enter the Promised Land. The Promised Land represents the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the victorious life. Its a life of blessing and victory - rest and refreshing - but not without "labour and struggles". There are "enemies" in this land - principalities and powers of the devil who will oppose our every step. God provides a way to enter into this rest and refreshing. Isaiah prophesied it; Jesus promised it; and the Holy Spirit produces it. Let us labour to enter this rest. Let us stay in our place of prayer and persevere until we have "prayed through" all the interference of the Adversary and the peace of God rules in our hearts. Let us enter into this rest and the refreshing by speaking in tongues.
