O hat is the General Motors Diet? Answer: Please see this page
O Is this diet endorsed by General Motors? Answer: Apparently NOT. But people have
Iound it helpIul. So, aIter all, Whats in a name'?
O Is this diet :nhealthy? Answer: Did you know that water can be unhealthy? People have
died due to excessive water. The extreme cases are related to drowning! Ok, I digress. :)
This is not a diet to Iollow Ior liIe. This is more oI a cleansinig diet, to be done once in a
while. Just like you service your car. You do not keep your car with your servicing
company every single day, do you?
O Does this diet really help me lose weight? Answer: Yes and No. Not really iI you are
underweight or right weight. But even Ior others, it depends on their body composition.
Generally, physical exercises are the most ideal Ior keeping your weight under check.
Such diets act as .atalysts to lose weight. Exercises Iorm the core matter.
O ill I gain back any lost weight once I go oII this diet? Answer: It's like a new-born
asking iI I will lead a healthy liIe. This isn't astrology, right? Your experiences will
depend on your liIestyle. Nothing more. Nothing less!
O an I Iollow this diet Ior as many weeks as I wish? Answer: Generally speaking, NO.
This is not a balanced diet.
O Is the weight loss just water loss? Answer: Depends. Varies Irom person to person. See
above.
O Is it enough to Iollow this diet to lose weight? an I skip exercises? Answer: Again,
varies Irom person to person. :t, exercises deIinitely help!
O an/Should I have pulses instead oI rice? Answer: This has been discussed quite a bit on
the Iorums here. There isn't much experience available. II you do try replacing rice with
pulses, please share your experiences here Ior the beneIit oI others.
O an I add salt to my soup/vegetables/Iruits? Answer: Idealy, no. II you can not live
without it, in very limited quantities.

General Motors Weight Loss Diet
(Vegetarian Variant)
The following 7-day diet and health program was apparently developed for the employees and
the dependants of General Motors Inc. The program was developed in conjunction with the
grant from the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was first
tried at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of
Directors of General Motors Corporation at a general meeting on August 15, 1995.

General Motors Corporation wholly endorsed this program and is making it available to all
employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food service
facilities.
t is the management's intention to facilitate a welfare and fitness program for everyone.
This program is designed for a target weight loss of 5-6 Kgs. per week. It will also
improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. The
effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the foods eaten burn more calories than they
give to the body in caloric value. This plan can be used as often as you like to without
any fear of complications. t is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you
a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter by atleast 10
pounds. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.
uring the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day.

Day One
All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consists of all fruits you want. t is
suggested you consume lots of watermelon and cantaloupe.
Day Two
All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the new
and cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the account or type.
Avoid oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have large boiled potato for
breakfast.
Day Three
Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity.
No bananas yet and no potatoes today.
Day Four
ananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink
three glasses of milk. You can also have one bowl of vegetables soup.
Day Five
Today is a feast day. You will eat 1 (one) cup of rice. You also have to eat 6
(six) whole tomatoes and drink 12 (twelve) glasses of water today to cleanse
your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.
Day Six
Today is another all vegetables day. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat
all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your heart's content.
Day Seven
Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup rice, fruit juice and all the
vegetables you care to consume. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight
kilograms lighter than 1 week ago. f you desire further weight loss, repeat the
program again. Repeat the program as often as you like, however, it is
suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.
You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the purging and
cleansing you just gave it. Even more than a diet program it is good to follow this diet
once in a while to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have a
accumulated in the system.
General Motors Wonder Soup
The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. t can be eaten any time of
the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to drink large quantities of
this soup.

This program is highly recommended for women and men above 40 for whom excess

The GM Diet has undoubtedly become a much known regime, associated with losing weight. But
losing weight is a side-eIIect that has to be seen in the right context. To take an extreme example,
an underweight person should not lose weight. But as is true about most things in this world,
people tend to become dogmatic about certain things. Here, I try to bring Iorth certain aspects oI
the diet which will be worthy oI keeping in mind - not just Ior people who trust this diet, but also
Ior the naysayers.
O This is NOT really a weight loss diet - ell, it's true that many people experience some
loss in weight aIter Iollowing the GM Diet. But please bear in mind that weight is a
combination oI various Iactors, which include not just body Iat and water, but also the
state oI your digestive system. Seven days are NOT enough to lose weight by any means.
But, read on...
O This diet helps .leanse the body of most people - Just go through the diet program once
again to understand why. Remember this basic principle: ruits are body cleansers and
betterment catalysts whereas vegetables are generative agents. Seven days oI natural,
unspoilt Iood give your body enough oI a chance to get back in shape. Think oI this as a
trip to the servicing station - only Ior your body, and not Ior you vehicle though. And like
you vehicle's perIormance and mileage are enhanced aIter every trip to the service
station, so does your body react to such cleansing activities.
O There is no real s:bstit:te for exer.ises for weight loss - But, exercise is not just what
happens inside oI the gymnasium. alking is as good as any other exercise, iI managed
with some thought. II you are one oI those lucky people required to walk daily, tweak
your walking activities to provide enough calorie-burning eIIects. alk briskly. Take a
diIIerent, longer route while moving Irom point to point . Start earlier and walk a bit

similar diets can end up with diIIerent body weights and health conditions because oI the
way in which their bodies respond to Iood, apart Irom other environmental/mental
conditions. But you can certainly give your body a chance to thank yourselI by Iollowing
this golden maxim - reakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a
pauper. In another article, I'll try and bring out certain aspects oI eating and timing.
O Drink a lot of water - Your body is 70 water. Your Iood too should be. Else, you are
not eating right. Also, it's a h:e mistake to drink cold water, especially aIter Iood.
Drink/sip warm or hot water - especially aIter you've had Iood. At other times, you can
drink normal water. ater alone can help you maintain good health (and, weight!)
II you Iollow the above regularly, the GM diet (or, really, any other good diet!) will help you
maintain good health and an ideal weight!

GM ( General Motor's ) Diet is a well known diet program designed to detoxiIy body & also Ior
weight reduction. GM Diet is a 7 days diet program & it should be Iollow once in a month or in
two months. GM diet is very eIIective iI it is Iollowed sincerely than the individual can loose up
to 2-3 Kgs in a week. However aIter Iollowing GM diet one must take care oI the diet because
the person can regain weight within 2-3 days. However obese individuals who are suIIering Irom
Diabetes, hypertension or other heart problems should not go Ior GM Diet. Since the actual GM
diet chart ask the person to consume BeeI many individuals do not Iollow GM Diet. ThereIore as
a Dietician I have modiIied the GM Diet . Below I have given a 7 days diet chart.
1st Day D|et |an
1) BREAKFAST: (8.30 a.m. - 9.00 a.m.)
One apple 1-2 glasses oI water
2) MID-MORNING: (10-30 a.m. - 11.00 p.m.)
One bowl oI raw papaya 1-2 glasses oI water
3) LUNH: (1.00 p.m.-1.30 p.m.)
One bowl oI watermelon OR muskmelon 1 to 1-1/2 glasses oI water
4) TEA: (4.00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.)
One orange OR one sweet lime OR one chiku 1 to 1-1/2 glasses oI water
5) EVENING: (6.00 p.m. - 6.30 p.m.)
One glass oI coconut water
6) DINNER: (8.30 p.m. - 9.00 p.m.)
One apple 1-2 glasses oI water
NOTE: Only Iruits are consumed on the Iirst day oI GM diet. Banana should be avoided.

One boiled potato 1 to 1-1/2 glasses oI water

One tomato one cucumber 1/2 boiled beetroot 1to 1-1/2 glasses oI water
4) TEA: (4.00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.)
Two tomatoes 1 to 1-1/2 glasses oI water
5) EVENING: (6.00 p.m. - 6.30 p.m.)
One glass oI veg juice (palak tomato)
6) DINNER: (9.30 p.m. - 10.00 p.m.)
Boiled lauki (dudhi), can add salt and other spices plus water
NOTE: On the second day oI GM diet, only vegetables are consumed.
