Executive Overview
Oracle iSetup is a powerful tool to manage configuration data within the E-Business Suite environment. The product provides customers with tools to manage the extraction, loading, archiving, and reporting of configuration data throughout their environments. In Release 12, there are over 300 distinct, Oracle authored and supported iSetup APIs covering a range of solutions including AOL objects, Financials, HRMS, Manufacturing and Distribution, and Projects, to name a few. Configuration data is stored in relational database tables within the E-Business Suite instance. In many cases, any certain iSetup component will have dependencies on parent records existing in the target instance. Customers will need to be aware of these dependencies if they wish to be successful in using iSetup. The purpose of this document is to detail those dependencies for three of the core Selection Sets, namely General Foundation, Product Foundation, and Organization Structures.
Introduction
To be successful in using iSetup, users must be aware of the dependencies between different types of configuration data. To use a simple example, customers often wish to migrate Descriptive Flexfields from one instance to another. However, Descriptive Flexfields records are dependent on related records from Responsibilities and Value Set Values. Therefore, customers must load Responsibilities and Value Set Values APIs prior to loading the Descriptive Flexfield API to ensure that all of the dependencies are taken into account. It is also important to note that dependencies exist outside of iSetup selection sets, as well as between selection sets. For example, Concurrent Programs has a dependency on Application Name records being present in the target instance. For a variety of practical reasons, there is no iSetup API to manage Application Name records. Therefore, users will have to manually populate those records in the target instance prior
to using the Concurrent Program iSetup API to load Concurrent Programs records into that instance.
Objective
The purpose of this document is to detail dependencies among and between selection set components so that customers can incorporate them into their iSetup process and methodology.
This document will cover the three core selection sets: General Foundation, Product Foundation, and Organization Structures. Separate documents will cover the other selection sets.
