Learnings from Galaxy Bazaar Galaxy Bazaar is the most eagerly waited project among each and every

Commerce S tudent. This is a whole bazaar which is set up by the students for three days an d in these three days students are exposed to all business tactics. Although the main event is just for three days but it almost took a month for pr esenting this successful event before you. During this project I have learnt the following: Convincing the whole seller: As we are suppose to buy the goods on credit from the whole seller it became ver y much difficult to convince him as we were completely strangers. So I learnt ho w to bring in confidence other person so that he can agree upon my terms and con ditions. Dealing with the Customers : The major constituent of Galaxy Bazaar is the selling part. Selling aspect is th e most tiresome and the most interesting part. As we as a retailer are suppose t o convince or manipulate the customer to buy the product and also to cater and s atisfy minutest question of their. Becoming Responsible: As student we were also suppose to take care of our own goods, cash. So we tried to keep an eye always on goods otherwise any loss in goods would lead to loss. Dealing with Customers Rejection: Sometimes a customer would ask a lot of questions and on the verge of buying he/ she would change their mind .This disappointed me. This also taught me a lesson of to deal with it. Dealings in goods in you use: Through this project the most important thing which I learnt is to deal in the p roduct which one has confidence and uses it. Otherwise you wont be able to convin ce the customer. The other things which I learnt how one can run a business on small scale, how t o deal with people who have different needs and to provide them with exact produ ct which they need. Through this experience I really found out that CUSTOMER IS REALLY A KING. If you provide them with the product which suits their needs they wont mind payin g a high price for it. I am grateful to Bijal madam for providing this much exposure to me. Namaste,Hello and Bonjour I am Anjali Chandarana and a warm welcome of yours in my E-Portfolio. This portfolio of mine basically constits of all details and links of each and e very activities which I have done in STD 11 and will do in STD 12. In STD 9 and 10 I was in the Science stream but it was due to my optional subjec t i.e. Commercial Application I learnt that I am more inclined towards Commerce field rather than Science field. So I shifted in Commerce with the goal of becomi ng a C.A(I hope that this doesn t remain a goal only and achieve it). Basically as an individual I am quiet,shy,conservative,modest,fun-loving and fri endly.I feel that I am more concentrated on my goal and would never fail in the task given to me.. This portfolio would also serve as an evidence of all the activities which I hav e done during my school days. This would also have a positive impact on my C.V. I am greatly thankful to my teacher for helping me with this. At last I hope that you would enjoy going through my projects .I hope this portf olio helps you to enrich your knowledge of this field. As in this site I have tri ed to collect many topics of this field.

There were three days in total. On the first day the response was not good, i t was nothing new as I knew that many people just come for a look at the bazaar. Whenever we see a crowd of people approaching us we become full of hope that ma ybe they will stop and buy but in vain. The first day just went in hope and we h ardly did some selling... That day we really got bored sitting from 8am till 5pm . Thus commercially on first day due to fewer sales we made very negligible prof it. On the second day the morning hours again were not good on the perspective of sales. In the morning anyways no one would probably have the money to buy Kur tis. The second day was the day when I did the real selling. There was continuou s rush from 11am. That day we were busy throughout. There was no time for us to do anything else. Sales were very high on this day and we made high profit. The response was very good and it really satisfied me. We didnt get free time. Thus o n this day our efforts were quite successful in convincing the customers. On the third day as being the last one there was again a big rush and some customers were same and had maybe come to look at the new stock. The majority of the customers were girls. The college girls visited us twice. On this day many people had come as it was the last day meaning the last opportunity to have a lo ok and buy the products they need. Inter-personally galaxy bazaar changed my view of how business works. It is not that simple as it seems. There are many shops on roads, as we pass through them we never think how they must be working. The salesman does many things for the c ustomers. In GBU on the first day as I said there were not many customers we spe nd the whole day just waiting. We had to stay from 8am till 6:30pm. Obviously ou

r whole schedule was changed. Timings of having breakfast to lunch everythin g were changed. Because of less rush on the first day we did get time to talk, e at, and do extra things like listening to music etc... So on the first day there was not much change in the schedule. But I had a habit of sleeping in the after noon which I was not able to do!! Even though we didnt have much to do at the end of day it seemed very tiring. On the second day there was a huge rush and we had our customers before us and we didnt get the time to do anything. I didnt have my food till evening. Definitely approaching the customers was more necessary rather than having food. Customers are the kings and satisfying the k ing is the business of a salesman. By the end of the day I was totally exhausted . I am a very introvert person. It is very difficult for a person like me to tal k to people that easily. But in business you have to overcome these weaknesses. For making the customers buy your product you need to have the convincing power to make them buy. If there are no proper communication skills between you and yo ur customers then your business can become prone to errors and losses. Though on the last two days we had a lot of rush I was glad that we could manage the customers. I improved my communication skills and my convincing power in this business. In spite of rush we didnt ignore any cu stomers and probably no customer felt ignored or not approached. Thats probably t he positive side us and I am glad that we could make it. When we are into business our personal touch th at is with our families and friends get reduced to a certain level. I hardly rem ember talking with my mother during that time span. And also the value of money was realized. During the event there were a lot of interactions between differen t age groups. I made new friends and working in teams definitely increased our b ondings. Thus galaxy bazaar proved to be a wonderful expe rience overall. It was an opportunity to overcome our weaknesses and to experien ce doing business at an early age so as to have a basic idea to do business furt her in life. Galaxy bazaar also proved to be a first step to the world of commer ce and marketing. 11. I also learned to remain hungry during GBU Galaxy Bazaar.. it cannot be described in a few hundred words or even a thousand. It wasnt a project or an obligation for us, it was a journey. A journey that ren dered us richer not only in terms of money but also in terms of knowledge and ex perience, something that is invaluable and will remain in our memories for many more years to come. Thinking about GBU as we fondly called it brought back sweet m emories of the happy times I have spent with my friends looking for wholesalers, convincing sponsors, working laboriously for long hours putting on price tags a nd tallying the stock. I remember the exhilaration and relief I felt when the st ock tallied and the panic when it did not!! Galaxy Bazaar was a retail market set up by the commerce students of Std. 11 and 12 held at Savani Hall on 5th, 6th and 7th October 2009. It was the fourth cons ecutive year that the Bazaar was held but was the first time for the 11th std. I n the beginning, we were excited, nervous, thrilled and apprehensive as to how w ould we effectively manage such a huge and complicated venture. But it all turne d out fine. All of us participated in taking the smallest of decisions like the name, the venue, how the tables were to be kept etc. We stumbled along the way and learnt things that will help us to become dynamic and successful entrepreneu rs.

I would like to discuss what we learnt, the mistakes that we made and how we wou ld like to rectify it in the next season. THE COMMERCIAL ASPECT OF MY LEARNING. SPONSORSHIPS: Grabbing sponsorship opportunities was very important as it would help us cover the costs and increase our profits. Thus we were determined to convince as many sponsors of the worthiness of our project and how it would benefit them. We knew that our communication skills would be tested during various interaction s. On the first day we were very disappointed with the lack of response from sev eral places. But we relented. We tried to present the entire proposal in a more attractive and confident manner. It proved to be quite helpful and we did acquir e certain sponsorships in the end! My communication skills were greatly improved in the course of various encounter s with different kind of people some of whom were very curt, inconsiderate and c old. I learnt that you have to be very courteous with the potential sponsor and expla in your point very confidently and assure them of the authenticity of the projec t. I also understood that it was very important to put the entire proposal in a very attractive manner. I learnt that the sponsor may put forward different ques tions and one has to be ready to face all of them. However, the one mistake that we made was that we approached several companies v ery late and even though they were willing to help us, they couldnt attain permis sion in the limited time. Therefore I learnt that it was necessary to approach v arious company outlets and franchise a month or two in advance so that they coul d carry out the formalities and provide us with the sponsorship for the Bazaar. WHOLESALERS: The experience with the wholesalers was quite different and enriching. Firstly, it was very difficult to find wholesalers who would provide us with quality good s on credit. We had to enter the old city of Rajkot and explore every nook and c orner of the maze-like streets. Richa, a member of our group was especially help ful as she was acquainted with many wholesalers and that helped us to acquire go od quality products. I learnt that one has to clearly state all the terms and conditions of purchase well in advance before the wholesalers in order to avoid any complications in th e future. All the negotiations have to be made in such a way that they benefit u s. However we had to sometimes cooperate with the wholesaler and meet some of th eir demands. We also learnt that it was very important to check the bill prepare d by the wholesaler and tally it with the goods supplied by them. We also had to be alert that no defective goods were provided to us. Therefore, even though we maintained courteous relations with our suppliers, we were alert and stringent during the collection of the goods. All these interactions helped us understand the market trends and we learnt to move according to it. Hence, we communicated with different kinds of people and all in all it was a ve ry unique experience. THE INTER PERSONAL ASPECT OF MY LEARNING

CUSTOMERS The customer is the equivalent to god in business. All our efforts and hard work was to please the customers and to ensure that all their demands were met. We a re generally on the other side of the table where the goods are sold to us. But this time, we were supposed to sell and convince the customers that they are bei ng provided the best products. It was a humongous task as there were customers w ho scrutinized each product carefully and inquired extensively before they decid ed to buy it. I was in the stall where we were selling kurtis and it turned out to be quite an intriguing and interesting experience. We noticed that our target market would be the teachers in the morning, the girls from S.N.Kansagra College, parents etc . Thus our peak selling time was in the last hour of the Bazaar i.e. from 3:30 o nwards. It was during this time that the college girls and the parents would vis it the Bazaar. Thus during the lunch break we would visit our wholesaler in orde r to collect a new stock so that more and more people would get attracted to our stall. I learnt that it was very essential that you welcome each customer and pay atten tion to each ones choices. It is very necessary to assure the customer that ampl e choice is available. We opened the kurtis whenever the customer demanded and s howed them different colours. The customer sometimes demanded a kurti of a parti cular type or pattern and we tried to meet their demands. Sometimes we too sugge sted combinations to our customers or helped them make a choice. I also discover ed that candor works especially well with some customers where we can express ou r honest opinions concerning a particular kurti. If we would notice that a custo mer has liked a kurti but isnt buying it because of the price, we would reduce it to a certain extent so that there would be a win win situation. We also tried t o attend to as many customers as we could so that no one would leave our stall w ithout having a good look at all the kurtis. Thus our salesmanship skills were s harpened and we were successful in persuading many customers to buy from our sta ll. PEERS I think Galaxy Bazaar was such an exciting and fun filled journey because of the companions and because all of us were always supporting each other in every way we could. It was because all of us shared such a great rapport that we were smo othly able to carry out all the functions. Interaction with different kinds of people enabled us to come up with the weirde st and most innovative ideas for the Bazaar. Sometimes, there used to be a diffe rence in opinion but that too taught us something. It taught us the policy of co mpromising and trying to arrive at a point of agreement that is best for the Baz aar. I also learnt that it is very necessary that we identify each persons talent s and skills and allot work and responsibilities accordingly. We also learnt man y things from each others which led to an improvement in our qualities. Sometimes it wasnt possible for people to make it for some particular work due to other equally important obligations. At such times, everyone was very understan ding and would manage without that member of the group. Thus every single member joined hands in order to make this venture a success. I t wasnt a one man show but a collaboration of different minds, their ideas, under standings and their interests. GBU not only improved my communication skills but also tested my understanding, maturity and intelligence. Sometimes it was very important that we give the right answer at the right time in order to have a goo d impression on the sponsor.

For a person who had no sense of roads or geography of Rajkot, I was able to eas ily move through most of the places by the end of the Bazaar. Now, I know of pla ces in the old city which even my mother might not be aware about. It is the exp loration of the city that has helped me immensely. These were my experiences of THE GALAXY BAZAAR UNLEASHED. I can safely conclude that working for the Bazaar was an immensely tiring but satisfying exploration. Each rupee that we earned gave us a happiness that cant be described in words for it was the first time that WE had independently conducted a business. And when it ended, all of us were very sad for not only did we have to get back to studie s, but that the happiest times were about to end. However all these memories wil l allways remain embedded in my heart and I am already looking forward to the ne xt years Bazaar for I intend to work harder and have more fun than ever. So till t hen its Au Revoir for Galaxy Bazaar!!
