Delivery
Brought-in steels & Components

Steel unloading from barges and ships Consideration Point

Steel plates and bulb bars are

mainly imported from China
certifed by DNV

•Steels are arranged every where

on the loading quay. Lots of
different steel grades and
thickness normally mix with
each others
•It takes long time to sort out
and find the needed sheets
Blasting & Shop priming

Preliminary treatment of steels Consideration Point

Shop priming paint is of type

approval one (w.r.t welding
quality over priming)
-If more than one steel grade
being treated, they should be
distinguished by applying
primings of different colour.
-Dimension and markings of
steel shall be transferred on
to the final surface of plates
CNC cutting – Nesting plan

Tracibility of material Consideration Point

At the CNC cutting machines,

tracibility is strickly controled
for filing and later use.
-Died mark is transferred
from steel plates to nesting
plan by rubbing.
-Additionally, it is hand-
written in case of the unclear
copying of marking.
Sub-block fabrication – Cutting and marking

As-cut members defined Consideration Point

The tructural member is

identified by a colour geometry.
The CNC machine worker
assigns ID number onto its
surface by hand-writing in white,
including:
-Project No.:
HL-04
-Location of item in one block:
24P/S-GR8A-A1
-Thickness and grade:
t 20-NVA
NB! ID number system shall be
coincides with that in the
working drawing
Sub-block fabrication - Tracibility

Identification symbols for steel grades Consideration Point

Colour geometries are printed

onto structural items by spraying
paint through a perforated plate at
CNC cutting worker:
-Blue triangle: NTS NVA
-Yellow diamond: HTS NVA32
-Red circle: HTS NVD36
-Red capsule: HTS NVA36
Sub-block fabrication - Welding consumables

Coated electrodes low hydogen: -Flux cored/wire combine - NT 6013 rods are only on NST
“Supercored” is suitable for - NA 7016 can be used for
NVA~NVD32/36. With hydogen NVA~NVD32/36
marking H10, it can be use for
welding on very thick plate and
castings
-Combined Flux/wire “L-8” is use
for steel grade upto NVD36
Sub-block fabrication - Welding consumables
Sub-block fabrication

Sub-block fabrication Consideration Point

Floors, girders, bottoms, shell,

longi.Bhd, webs…form the primary
structures of block. Those are fitted
up at open space condition (sub-
block pieces) at a very early stage of
block fabrication. During unschedule
inspections, Class surveyors involve
in:
-Mould line/100MM line markings
-Members of correct steel grade and
size, ID Nr.
-Edge preperation such as gaps/root,
beveling.Tack welding technique,
WPS to follow up..
-Fair after sub-block welding
Block assembly – Fit-up

Block assembly Consideration Point

Sub-blocks now are erected and

fitted up into block. The quality of
block are decided by controling:
-Mould line/100MM line to aligne
structural item.
-Proper welding consumables,
process and WPS, sequence of
welding
-Weld defects, missing items and
deformation to be rectify fully
Block assembly – Fit-up

Block assembly Consideration Point

Welding connection detail is to

follow the approved drawing. In the
other hand, they would be a weak
point. They are:
-Floor and girder connection to
tank top iwo lowerstool
-Hopper connetion to tank top.
-Bulkhead connection to
lower/upper tool
-Slanted bulkhead connection to
side stringer
-Casting connected to shell and
members
-Other critical areas of hull…
Block assembly – Final

Final block Consideration Point

Finally, block is normally at

turned-over position
-Side, ends, hopper blocks: up-to-
down
-Bottom, upperstool, E/R block:
turned upward
-NDT and Mould line marking (at
erection joint area) is carried out
at this stage.
-Lifting eyes are fitted now for later
handling. They should be in line
with primary structures
Block assembly – Pre-outfittings

Final block Consideration Point

In order to reduce outfitting job and

heating job, save the on-slipway
period, shipyard should consider
about fitting hull and equipment
related items during block stage
-As many pipe supporters, pipes,
cable trays, A.C. vent., putted in
blocks are as possible.
-Mooring fittings, small hatches,
door frames, lighting fixtures.
-Equipment supporters.
Grit blasting & Painting - Blasting

Grit blasting worshop Consideration Point

Shoul be located at as remote

corner of shipyard as possible.
Piping, machinery w/s and two
vice director’s office locates
around this w/s
Grit blasting & Painting - Painting

Touching-up after painting Consideration Point

Painter shall know the non-painted

areas:
-Erection joint area which is
wrapped by sticky tape for later
welding shall be kept until after
finished coating
-Semi-automatic welding seams is
to be covered from painting over
for later tightness test
-Mould line punches are also
sealed from being painted
Erections & Outfittings on Slipway - Handling
Erections & Outfittings on Slipway - Erection

On slipway Consideration Point

Block division is very important to

ensure the productive effeciency
with regard to shipyard’s lifting
capacity.
In this connection, there is still
something to improve in shipyard
such as redividing the blocks up to
bigger size. Thus the gantry crane
(300T) will be used as it is.
Erections & Outfittings on Slipway – What should be done ahead ?

On slipway Consideration Point

Joint sequence in term of erection

also contributes much to effective
production via harmonization
between erection joint and onboard
outfitting jobs:
-E/R and Aft end are carried out
ahead in comparision to the mid
and fore area.
-However, schedule of pre-
outfittings and out fittings shoul be
more improved to reduce the on-
slipway period and heating job
after lauching.
Erections & Outfittings on Slipway – Pre-outfittings

On slipway Consideration Point

-Tank and NDT testing will will be

going smoothily when all
temporary opeings and pipe
penetration pieces at tank
boundares should be completed at
the same time with the erection
