A1. SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Human Interface Station (HIS) This station is used for monitoring and operation it displays process variables, control parameters and alarms necessary for users to quickly grasp the operating status of the plant. Engineering Workstation (ENG) This station is a generic PC used for Engineering. Field Control Station (FCS) The control station is to generate the control function where the process variables are read and control calculation is carried out in the processor cards to determine the control output to be sent to the field. Ethernet Ethernet is used to link HIS, ENG and supervisory systems V / VL net The V / VL net real time control system bus links station such as FCS, HIS, BCV and ACG Bus Converter (BCV or ABC) This connects the V net system bus to other CS3000/1000 systems or to an existing DCS Communication Gateway Unit (CGW or ACG) This connects the V net control system bus to a supervisory computer or personal computer.

A2. HUMAN INTERFACE STATION

The HIS acquires information such as process variables, set-points, measured values, control parameters and warning status from the FCS to evaluate the status of the plant and system operation. This information is displayed in an easily understood form at the CRT using graphs, texts, patterns and graphics, which provides an operating environment where errors are less likely to occur in the procedures. The are two types of HIS namely the Desktop type and the Console type: Desktop type An IBM PC/AT compatible machine is generally used. Apart from the general PC/AT compatible machine, the Yokogawa PC (Japan) is also supported. Specifications of the PC HIS desktop are as follows:
CPU Main Memory Hard Disk Video display Video memory CRT monitor Serial port Parallel port Extension slot Power Supply Basic Software : Pentium 166MHz or better : 64 MB (Additional memory is required for more functions) : 2 GB or more (User space must be 500 MB or more) : 1024 x 768 or more, 256 colours : 2 MB or more : Multi-scan, 17 inch or larger : RS232C one port or more (Dsub9pin) : One port or more (Dub9pin) : PCI, ISA (1 PCI slot for V/VL control bus card, 1 slot for Ethernet card) : 200-240 V AC : Windows NT Ver 4 with Service Pack 3

Console type The floor-mounted console comes with a 21 inch CRT which has touch panel operation function. It has both an operation keyboard and an engineering keyboard. However, this type of HIS is only available for CS3000 system.

A3. FIELD CONTROL STATION

There are generally 2 types of FCS Standard FCS and Compact FCS. However Standard-type FCS is only available in CS3000 system whereas the Compacttype FCS is available for both CS1000 and CS3000 system. Sometimes the term LFCS is used to refer to Standard type FCS and SFCS is used to refer to Compact type FCS both used in CS3000 system. For CS1000 system, the term PFCS is used to refer to the Compact type FCS. Model names for LFCS (for CS3000 only): AFS10S (racked type, single processor card) AFS10D (racked type, duplexed processor card) AFS20S (cabinet type, single processor card) AFS20D (cabinet type, duplexed processor card) Model names for PFCS PFCS (compact FCS, single processor type) PFCD (compact FCS, duplex processor type)

A3.1 FCS HARDWARE DESCRIPTION

The following is a brief description of the hardware found in both the PFCS and LFCS series. Some of the hardware features may not be identical or required for both FCS types. Control bus coupler unit The coupler is where the V or VL net cable is installed into the FCS station. It has two buses for connection. The V net coupler couples the processor card installed in the FCU to the V net cable by performing the signal isolation and signal level conversion. Power Supply Unit (PSU) For the PFCS, the unit supplies the unit supply power to the common part of the FCS. For the LFCS, the unit receives power from the distribution board and converts it into an isolated DC voltage for distribution to cards and units mounted in the FCU. Back Up Batteries The rechargeable battery unit installed in the PSU, backs up the memory in the processor card during a power failure. It can hold the memory for of 72 hours. RIO Interface Card & RIO bus The RIO Interface Card is used only in the LFCS (CS3000). The interface card performs data communication via the RIO bus coupler unit between multiple nodes connected on the RIO bus distribution unit. RIO bus distribution units are provided in the front and rear sides of an LFCS with cabinet. Each RIO bus distribution unit connects up to three nodes to the same RIO bus. The standard RIO bus distribution unit can be used for either a single or dual RIO bus. Process Input Output Unit (IOU) The communication devices that perform the processing of conversion and transmission of the field process signals to the field control unit (FCS). Node Interface Unit (NIU) A device that offers an interface function to send analog and contact I/O signals from the field to the Field Control Unit via a RIO bus, and it offers the function to supply power to the IOUs Node Refers to a configuration of Process I/O units, electrically connected with a Node Interface Unit.

A. SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Processor Card The processor card performs calculation and control computation. Some models of the FCS have two processor cards as a dual redundant feature. One of the card is in control status and the other is in standby status Each processor unit has two CPUs, which perform the same control computation. The computation results are compared by a collator during each computation cycle. If the computation results from the two CPUs match, the collator determines that the computation is normal and sends data to locations such as the main memory and bus interface unit. Because the main memory has an ECC, transient bit inversion errors occurring in the main memory can be repaired.

If computation results from CPU1 and CPU2 do not match, the collator judges that a computation error has occurred, and the control right will be transferred to the standby side. The standby processor unit performs the same computation as the control side, even though it is in the standby state. Therefore, it can immediately resume the output of control computation data to the bus interface when it takes over the control right. Self-diagnostics will be executed on the processor unit in which an error has occurred. If no CPU error is detected as a result of diagnostics, the error will be judged a transient computation error, and the error-state will return to standby. The processor unit on standby performs the same computation concurrently with the control side. Therefore, CPUs within the same unit collate each others computation data, being sure to detect any computation errors. Because the unit on standby performs the same control computation concurrently with the control side, it can take over the control computation at any point without interruption, even for the shortest time.

A4. NETWORK
CS1000 / CS3000 uses VL / V net and Ethernet for control data communications.

Transmission Speed Cable Transmission distance Access Method Repeater - Coaxial Cable - Optical Fiber

V Net 10Mbps 10BASE2 cable used by HIS stations 10BASE5 cable used by FCS, ACG etc. 500 m/segment (for 10Base5) 185 m/segment (for 10Base2) Token Passing Maximum 8 sets, 1.6 km Maximum 4 sets, 20km

VL Net 10Mbps 10BASE2 cable used by stations 185 m/segment (for 10Base2) Token Passing Maximum 8 sets, 1.6 km Maximum 4 sets, 20km

Ethernet HIS and ENG, HIS and Supervisory systems can be connected by Ethernet LAN; supervisory computers and PC on the Ethernet LAN can access messages and trend data in the CS3000 / 1000 system. The Ethernet can also be used for sending trend data files from the HIS to supervisory computers or for equalizing the data in the 2 HIS station rather than using the V / VL net to do this. A system with only a single HIS with engineering functions does not need Ethernet. V net versus Ethernet Since CS1000 is a small-scale system (max 24 stations) and the information net and V net will not be heavily loaded, Ethernet has been optional. In contrast, for CS3000, Ethernet is a standard equipment for communication between the HISs to prevent the V net from being overloaded since CS3000 is a large scale system.
