Dear Recruiting Manager: Since a young man, I have been a part of the financial and operational management of many small businesses. This started as me observing my familys various businesses, then lead to me becoming an entrepreneur myself. I have learned the value of many things such as a dollar, employee loyalty, personal and professional drive, and quality work and products. Those qualities are now instilled in everything I do and how I do them. I graduated high school in the spring of 2003. A naive young man, I decided that college wasnt my first priority and thus turned down an opportunity to attend Faulkner State Community College, then got a full time job at a local IT company. After moving up through that company for over a year and relocating at their request, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) which forced my resignation. The next 4 years were the hardest of my life, but also the most fruitful. I learned a great many things such as the value of family and friends and their loyalty when it counts. My entire outlook on life changed and so did my attitude. After receiving my last chemotherapy treatment I decided to get back into the work force. Although my previous employer was no longer in business, I was able to secure an entry level construction job to get my foot back in the door. That turned out to be a bad idea. I was unable to do the work required due to my health and thus forced to resign. At that point I knew IT is where I needed to be. However I had been out of the industry for 4 years. So, I decided a college degree was going to be the best way to reenter the industry. I have made a decision that my education will be a life-long project. I am currently attending Devry University doing classes online. My major is Computer Information Systems. Current plans have me attending Drexel online to get my masters. Three years after making this decision, I am now ready to put everything Ive learned to work. My primary goal is to find an employer who supports the continuing education of their employees. I am confident that my experience, skills, and values will be a great fit for your team. Best regards, Jonathan Thompson

Career Highlights
While working at AtDrag Inc. I worked my way to the top. After starting at the lowest possible level and working every position possible over the course of 10 years, including but not limited to everything from flipping burgers in the concession stand to counting hundreds of thousands of dollars on large events, as well as skill related jobs like operating tractors and other prep equipment, announcing, and running the timing computer. I eventually held the title of general manager for 2 years. During the years of my battle with cancer I served as announcer when my health allowed; before being laid off due to the collapse of the economy, rising fuel prices, and the lack of spectator support in the area. During my time with Econec Inc., I quickly showed management qualities they were looking for. I started out at a low level technical support position. Within 3 months I had worked my way to the top of the tech-center as a senior technician. I was also the most knowledgeable person in the company, when it came to internet satellite systems. After 3 more months, I had worked my way up to middle management. I was then given the title, Assistant Network Administrator. At that point I answered to only two people in the company of 20+ employees. After the company moved to Mobile AL from Brewton AL, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) which forced my resignation. That battle with cancer lasted 4+ years and on completion of my treatments I was made aware that Econec Inc. was no longer in business. Previously I obtained employment at CharCo Inc. as a general laborer. I was cautioned by family and friends that I wasnt ready to go back to work after my previous battle with cancer, but I tried anyway. The resulting 3 months proved to me that I wasnt ready at that time. However I made the choice that if I wasnt able to work, then I would go back to school to better prepare myself for a time when I would be ready. My employment at Subway of Flomaton was my first real experience with customer service. It was a great time of learning for me. The experience molded my attitude and ambition for success. At just 16, with only a few months experience, I was trusted to open and/or close one of three different restaurants.
