In 2007, Balqon Corporation introduced drive system technologies used in its heavy duty trucks and tractor product line. In 2010, we incorporated high energy density lithium-ion batteries into our products increasing range of our vehicles. It was not until 2011 when Balqon developed a fast charging system that can charge the batteries in less than 30 minutes. Combination of battery and charging technologies made EQO a commercially viable zero emission solution for defined route 24/7 shuttle operation.

Noise and air pollution at airports, parking structures and rental car lots effects all of us travelling or living near these facilities. The impact of this pollution is especially acute near large airports. A 1980 study examining the impact of airport noise on children found higher blood pressure and elevated nervous system on children living near large airports. Airplane noise blends into noise generated by buses, cars and construction noise near airports leading to acute noise and pollution levels at airports. Studies in California have repeatedly shown higher ridership on electric buses when consumer has an option to select quiet, no emission solution over loud and polluting conventional buses.

Transportation in the United States accounts for 33% of all carbon dioxide, 75% of carbon monoxide and 57% of nitrogen oxide. Urban diesel buses which includes shuttle buses is the highest pollution generator in the category during off-peak hours. Due to high concentration of automobiles, buses and planes in a single location further increases its effect on health due to proximity of general public to pollution source. EQO shuttle bus reduces air and noise pollution for traveller during unloading and loading of passengers. During the last decade with growing air travel, number of small and medium size buses have grown to 22,400 a 300% increase resulting in higher pollution in inner city and transportation hubs.

Inside an electric vehicle

A Charger Charger converts AC electric current from an electrical outlet to DC power. Also included in the charger is communication systems that monitor battery condition to automatically determine safe amount to charge current and voltage Power distribution provides all the safety interlocks between the charger, batteries and motor inverters. Batteries store the energy received from the chargers or regeneration during braking. This stored energy is then provided to the inverter based on the command of the driver. All batteries have monitors that communicate with the inverter on state of charge and anticipated range of the vehicle In most electric vehicles motors used are AC motors, inverters (sometime called controllers) convert the DC energy stored in the batteries to AC motor. Electric motor converts electric energy to mechanical energy generating RPM based on speed requirements from driver (throttle pedal input) Automatic transmission provides mechanical advantage during start up, acting as torque multiplier during acceleration improving motor efficiency Transfer powers from the drive shaft to the wheels resulting in motion
