tolerable absence of 25% (3 sessions) by prior permission and strong evidence of urgency and emergency only. o Respecting others by not using cellular-phone or personal laptop/notebook for non-class related activities. Participants should read the chapters or topics and other materials assigned before each class meeting. There is no excuse for not reading materials before each session. Class participation is a major part of the final grade; Since this class deals with ethics, all ethical behavior in learning should be observed.

Case method will be applied in this class. This method is one of the types of learning methods under the student-centered learning (SCL). In this approach, students are active learners to find and construct their own knowledge and an instructor serves only as a facilitator to help students in achieving learning objectives and in developing interpersonal skills. The course is broken into two parts. Part one (the first seven sessions) was designed to help students understand ethical principles and theory. In this part, each student should equip himself or herself with necessary and relevant concepts to analyze and solve a short case assigned for each class meeting. Before discussing a case, a student will be called on at random to answer a conceptual question, to describe and provide examples for the important concepts discussed in the text book, or to brief an assigned case. Only when it is deemed necessary the instructor will summarize the concepts. By this approach, it is expected that students will change from hear and talk to read, write, listen, and speak mind-set in learning. Part two (after the mid-term exam) will be devoted to group case presentation. Eleven groups (of four to five members) will be formed and each group is assigned a case for presentation (total of eleven cases will be discussed). Grading composition: Homework/assignments = 20% Group project = 20% Individual class participation/discussion = 20% Mid-term exam = 20% Final exam = 20% Grading 85 80 84 75 79 70 74 65 69 conversion: : A : A: : : B+ B B60 64 55 59 50 54 45 49 0 - 45 : : : : : C+ C CD E

What do you do with the weekly case?

You should individually prepare the answers or written comment or opinion on the assigned case for the session (no more than one-page for each case). In part of these sessions, you will be called on at random to express your comment by referring to what you have written. If necessary you may read out what is written but try your best as if you knew by heart. We have two alternatives for you to select:

Group Presentation

1) Working on the given case (please see the topic/title in

the table of Study Plan). For this option, your group needs to present the slides and submit its written report, containing the case analysis.

2) Or you may have your own topic for the group

presentation. If you are about to select this work, you should follow this rule: You are requested to prepare both paper and slides. The topic should take business ethics/ethical issues that a company is facing. The object can be any company (domestic or international) that operates or runs its production/operation in Indonesia. The paper should contain the phenomenon under investigation: what, why, and how you plan to do this. You have to keep in mind that the paper should have the following sections/headlines: 1: The Phenomenon a) The phenomenon under investigation and the purpose of the paper. b) Why is this important? Why should we spend time reading this? c) How will you go about analyzing this phenomenon in the paper? 2: The Theories/the Literature a) Present and describe the most relevant theories/models/studies from business ethics that will be used to analyze this phenomenon. Make extensive use of the models and theories that are presented in this course. b) What are the most important variables that you will be looking at? Sources: primarily from the readings and lectures; make sure they are relevant for your phenomenon. Make sure you are specific and relevant in your choice and presentation of the theories you use. 3: The Reality methods/case. Apply the theories to your case. a) Give some general background information of the organization you are studying (in brief) b) Analyze your organization/phenomenon by using the models/theories/variables you have presented in the Theory chapter. Organize this section the same way you presented the theories in the last section. (Normally you would present a set of research methods, and apply 3

them, however, that is not required for this paper) 4: Conclusions/decisions a) Present a summary of your findings b) What do you conclude from this? c) What do you recommend that the organization do based on your study? d) Where do we go from here? More studies? The papers should be minimum 20 pages long excluding bibliography and appendixes, font 12, 1.5 line spacing. Make sure that you follow normal procedures for referencing and a complete bibliography. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a failing grade in the course for all the group members. The presentation of the group paper will be based on the given schedule.
