Spectrum Power 3 Release 3.

9
The Spectrum Power 3 takes the global power of Siemens and makes it more powerful and agile than ever before. Integration of Spectrum PowerCC Components Introduction of a Web-based User Interface (WebUI) Upgraded third-party products Addition of customer-requested features

Release 3.9 continues the evolution of Spectrum Power 3. The integration of Spectrum PowerCC Components enables Spectrum Power 3 system owners to use the flexibility and power of the components while benefiting from the market-proven Spectrum Power 3 SCADA and applications.

Choice of components
The Spectrum PowerCC Components available in Release 3.9 are the following: Historical Information System (HIS) Communications Front End (CFE) Transmission Network Applications (TNA) Operator Training Simulator (OTS)

Individual gateways connect the Spectrum PowerCC Components to the Spectrum Power 3 system. The gateways handle the communications across operating system boundaries.

The Computer Network Management (CNM) gateway enables Spectrum Power 3 users to manipulate the servers on which the components run as if they were traditional Spectrum Power 3 servers. All components are supported by the CNM gateway. Customers choose which components to configure as part of their Spectrum Power 3 system. They may choose just one component, all four components or any combination of the components. Further, both the HIS and CFE components run in parallel with the Spectrum Power 3 HFD and RTDS functions that they complement. This provides a low cost evolutionary path for customers currently using HFD for their archives and RTDS for their front ends. The TNA component is designed to replace the native Spectrum Power 3 TNA function.

Optimizes transmission operations for economic and various

security purposes

Maintains historical cases for after-the-fact analysis Why OTS Provides a means to instruct control center staff in the use of
the energy management system

Allows control center staff to become familiar with the operational behavior of the transmission system

Supports training for emergency response scenarios May be used for black start system restoration planning Can be initialized from HIS (through the State Estimator) to
perform after-the-fact analyses of real-world actions

Why CFE Use of standard hardware eliminates obsolescence concerns

and greatly reduces maintenance costs Eliminates protocol converters by supporting virtually all industry standard protocol including direct communications to Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Extensive communication diagnostic capability including monitor and listen modes

Web-based User Interface (WebUI)

At release 3.9, Web-based delivery of one-line diagrams and applications has been added to Spectrum Power 3. The one-line diagrams are served up as scalable vector graphics (SVG) files, automatically generated from existing displays, with no manual intervention required. This capability allows control center staff to make limited information available to back-office personnel without the need to install and maintain consoles for them.

Customer Driven Enhancements

Through participation in SECA working groups, SECA Millennium projects, interaction with project support staff, and conversations with developers, customers define the functionality of Spectrum Power 3. The following list illustrates the breadth of features added since release 3.8 in response to direct customer feedback and requests. Reverse transfer support for ICCP data - Requested by customers Support for 25 ICCP remotes - Requested by the SECA ICCP Working Group Improve ICCP data value display - Requested by the SECA ICCP Working Group User ID Information on Tech Area display - Requested at SECA Close Only and Caution tags added - Requested by customers Network applications data accessible via ICCP - SECA Millennium project add on Block type edits allowed - Requested by the SECA Database Working Group

Why HIS High speed, high volume archiving solution for real-time data Highest levels of reliability and availability through multiple
levels of redundancy

Serves as a universal historic information system by supporting

most of the industrys standards for open database interfaces Web enabled Provides data editing and calculation capability with audit trail functionality

Why TNA Provides accurate real time model for better monitoring of the
transmission grid Assesses the security of the power system grid with respect to thermal overloads, static voltage limits, and voltage collapse static voltage limits, and voltage collapse
